He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds. we sought a second opinion from a psychiatrist that our son's therapist recommended.
I had very very very good luck with Risperdal combined with Zoloft. I was able to even come off both for 6 years without issue. That is something you need to discuss with your pdoc though and work on tapering under the pdoc's care.
Anyway, I found that Risperdal was a game changer and 99.9% of my fears subsided.

It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
I went to a psych around 6 months postpartum and was changed to Lexapro which I did ok on till I tried to go up from 10 to 20 mg. it made me jittery and worse sleep problems etc...Psych then added Risperdal which I don't want to take and made me nervous after reading it is used for bipolar and schizaphrenia. He was recently hospitalized (for the 3rd time) for threatening to kill himself, and refusing to go to school ( he would become violent with the staff at the school when they would try to make him stay and would threaten to kill himself there as well). He is on 25mg of Zoloft at bedtime and 2mg of Risperdal twice a day. I actually have two questions,

What are some the more "successful" medication cocktails people are seeing these days for OCD and especially the pure O type? I am currently on 112.5 mg of Effexor and moving up to 150 mg soon. I was "fine" for about 6 years after my last bout of medication (Risperdal and Zoloft) that I quit due to horrible weight gain. So, I am also looking to find the most weight neutral combination as well.
So they keep putting me on risperdal all the time, and when I take this stupid thing I keep hallucinating and seeing things in strange green color. So I stop taking it, and I stop hallucinating and I'm able to keep off of it, but I keep getting depressed and they keep on saying that I'm bipolar, partially because my mom keeps on lying to them. Other antipsychotics make me so and unable to keep focused as well, they make me loose all emotions and I hate taking them. How do I solve this?
My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills.
I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Hello. I currently am suffering with OCD involving HIV fear and I am thinking of possibly going on medication again along with counseling. I've been on many different drugs including Elavil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Depakot, Risperdal, and probably more that I can't even remember. I had a bad experience and finally when I decided to come off them I was LOADS better. But now my mind is going crazy again.
I've looked up meds and I'm seeing a lot about Anafranil associated with OCD.
I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
I've been experiencing horrible derealization and depersonalization which leads to these massive panic attacks. They occur while I am in my own home and really cripple me when I decide I want to leave my house. That leads to my agoraphobia, which is a seperate matter I suppose.
I was hoping someone could suggesst any medications for my derealization and depersonalization. I've heard for many years now that there are none. I have even tried beta blockers for help.
Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. I had an allergic reaction to zoloft about a week ago and it amped up my anxiety. So ive been taking .5mg lorazepams when needed. I used to be on 150mg bupropion but stopped when i got pregnant. Anyways Im scared now to take them both at the same time. I have post pardum depression and ive been exercising to help but its not fully helping. Any thoughts? The Zoloft reaction was the worse thing ive ever experienced with medicine. Severe hot flushes for over 24 hours.
Once she felt better, she got back on the Adderoll/Zoloft rollercoaster and off the Abilify and Serouquel. She is also bulemic and purges after every meal. She's been to the hospital 3x for extremely low potassium (sweats, palpitations, nasea and diziness). My question is how the Adderol and Zoloft interact with the Bipoar I condition and the bulemia. I'm a teenage female diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression with psychotic symptoms, and PTSD. Today at school I was walking to another class, then I have a gap in my memory except for some vague images of a bathroom, and then I found myself walking around outside the school. I had my coat & bags like I was ready to leave, but it wasn't the end of the day. I got upset since I had no idea how I had gotten there or what was going on.
Risperdal is an anti-psychotic but that's a subclinical dose so perhaps your psychiatrist prescribed it for panic attacks but I haven't heard of it for that use though it may have some effects. There is no particular interaction between the two medications. If it helps then see what happens. At that small dose there shouldn't be many problems and at any dose those two medications can be used together safely.
After recovering from breast cancer, I was prescribed a series of medications to treat depression and anxiety. I was put on Zoloft at first and then switched a few years ago to 40mg of Paxil along with 25mg of Xanax daily. I still feel anxiety and depression, however, and am afraid these drugs no longer work or that I have become immune to their effects. Should I be expecting the dosages of these medications to change over time? Is it normal to prescribe these drugs together?
