Reverse sneezing in maltese

Common Questions and Answers about Reverse sneezing in maltese

sneeze

Avatar f tn ve never heard of this in Maltese or Poodles but I know a breed like a Pug can have elongated soft palates and collapsing tracheas. Does anything ever come out her nose, even a little, like food or water? I ask this because she may have (even a hairline) cleft palate. Has she been to the Vet or due to go in soon for shots maybe? I would mention this to the Vet and have him/her give the puppy a thorough examination. Wish I could be of more help.
Avatar f tn YOU CAN SEE HER BODY KIND OF LIKE HEAVING OR CONVULSING. I TOOK HER TO MY VET AND THEY SAID SHE WAS REVERSE SNEEZING. HAVE YOU HEARD OF THIS. HE ALSO SAID TO GIVE HER A HALF OF A BENEDRYL. WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE GOES TO THE VET REGULARY AND IS UPDATED ON ALL SHOTS AND TREATMENTS SHE SOMETIMES HAS ALLERGIES. LAST NIGHT THIS EPISODE LASTED ABOUT 1 MINUTE IT WAS VERY SCARY.
Avatar f tn My dog is making a weird weezy breathing sound... (NOT reverse sneezing, I'm aware of this.) He's not being active and you can see his chest move while he breaths. Breathing out of his nose. His nose is dry, he threw up some slimy mucus too. What could this be???
Avatar f tn I was VERY interested in the vet saying he could hear congestion in his nose... which goes with reverse sneezing. I was also interested in the report that the dog licks a lot. Well, our dog is blowing his coat at an unexpected time because we had balmy weather when normal is very cold this time of year. He licks his coat, of course, all the time, and we do our best to keep up with the big white clumps of fur coming off him.
Avatar f tn Gia is an Italian greyhound, age unknown, although she was rescued in 2009 and was full grown then. Several times a month for years her stomach starts crackling, popping, fizzling and making all kinds of weird noises and she will not eat when this is happening. In the last year she is sneezing and reverse sneezing and my vet can't seem to figure out what is wrong. His last solution was a steroid shot which seemed to reduce the number of sneezing incidents but not the reverse sneezing.
Avatar m tn we have a maltese who is 10 years old. her feet smell awful, i bath her frequently and the smell returns within 2 days. could this be an allergy she has or what?
Avatar f tn Is it a proper sneeze (air blowing outward) or what's commonly referred to as "reverse sneezing"? Reverse sneezing can be frightening to see if it keeps on for a few minutes, but it's harmless - basically a kind of a hiccup. Our Dal gets reverse sneezing fits sometimes and we can usually stop it by rubbing his throat and getting him to move around a bit. That technique might help when your dog gets the sneezes from excitement.
Avatar f tn s fine now, it stopped after 2 or 3 times yesterday. So weird, maybe he is reverse sneezing due to allergies. We do live in the city, not too many plants around. Thank you again!!!!!
Avatar n tn This sounds very like what is called "Reverse Sneezing" . It is a bit of a mystery, as no-one knows exactly why this can occasionally happen. It has happened to my dog about 4 or 5 times since she has been with me (7-8 years) and she is very fit and well. So it appears whatever causes this symptom doesn't threaten the dog's health.
Avatar n tn my sheltie coughs like she has something in her throat she wants to bring up. I took her to the vet and he couldnt find anything wrong with her. My daughter who was a vet tech said it is a reverse sneeze. Is there anything I can do to make it better?
Avatar m tn I was out all day Saturday had to leave Lucy-Lou home but later on in the evening she started to breath heavy and hard like when your about to give birth...then she would cough. This would only last about 20 mins. Sunday I took her for a walk and half way through the walk she stopped did the same thing. I picked her up walked by to the house. About 2hrs later she did this again for about an hour.
178107 tn?1315947630 My Maltese is 13 months old and is now in heat. I actually had an appointment to have her spayed next week. I know nothing about this. How long does it last, how long will she bleed, is it painful for her, how long do I wait now to have her spayed? Sorry for all the questions but I don't have a clue.
Avatar f tn Steroids are useful as needed for allergy season that can be a trigger.....Dust mites in the house affect this a lot (Especially in the winter when the heat is on and the house is closed up tight).......It seems they breath better outside.....Something else: Dust Mites in DRY dog food alone can trigger this.....This disease can be controlled for years once you know what to do..... There's a common cough called A "Reverse Sneeze"...You can google it to know what it sounds like.....
1622527 tn?1301644622 The only real advice I can give you is to take him to the vet for a thorough examination (Heart/Lungs, and bloodwork) That is the soundest advice I can think of, and if you could manage to find the cash to do that, one way or another....it would be a wise move. However, it is just possible this could be what is called "Reverse Sneezing". Google "Reverse Sneezing You Tube" and you will come up with videos of dogs with this.
Avatar m tn I. I'm 68 an have been on vikes for quite some time.3-4 yrs. I'm on not just for the heck of it but just had some back surgery that did not totally work right. Also have a totally blown shoulder. Have had a Rgt. knee replacement and do need a left one too. To top it off I have a left ankle that needs surgery. At my age ? BUMMER!! But I am blessed with a great wife and a great faith. Story here is I ran out of vikes so I am trying to withdraw.
2094952 tn?1334015457 My maltese Valentine (who passed tonight) used to do this as a little one. The vet said that the maltese can be a very stressed out, high maintenance, or nervous dog and that's why she was doing it. You could always take him to the vet but as far as I know they don't make doggy bite guards so you may be stuck with the grinding or he may grow out of it...
871111 tn?1248992972 I certainly see alot of pugs with allergies (to food or pollen/dust), usually with symptoms such as scratching, foot licking, recurrent skin rashes and recurrent ear infections, and less commonly sneezing and reverse sneezing. It is certainly possible that your pug has an allergic cause for the ear infection and the brown stains on the jaw.
Avatar f tn I have 2 dogs, a Maltese and a Yorkie. They will both be turning 1 Dec. 16, and we got them both together so they have grown up together and all that. The maltese is a bit more shy and reserved while my yorkie is more out going and yappy. I have always been more attached to the maltese cuz he's more sweet, hes a mommy's boy and the yorkie likes my husband more since they play rough and is a bit aggressive.
Avatar f tn can you read my thread in dog with serious skin rash cant seem to post it as a question.
1761287 tn?1313824787 Steroids are one of the important medications to treat asthma in cats and are necessary and can be life saving in serious cases. All medications, even those considered natural have side effects. The benefits do outweigh the risks in most cases if used appropriately. I really do recommend that you have a chest X-Ray if asthma is suspected. I also recommend that you follow your vets advise.
Avatar f tn 3 year old Maltese has recently started eating poop when he is out in the yard. I have 2 dogs the maltese and a terrier mix. The Maltese is paper trained but when he goes outside he eats the teriers poop. What could be wrong? Any ideas?
Avatar f tn So I have a 7month old maltese. While I am at work I let my in laws take care of her and my in law takes care of other dogs (male or female). For some reason.. My female Maltese stomach has been growing outrageously big..not typical for a regular maltese weight/size. I'm thinking she may be pregnant but I'm not sure if she can be at such a young age. The only thing i also notice differently is that she is more relaxed (laying down all the time) & always out of breath. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn The small dog ( maltese) was playing with our golden doodle and all of a sudden the beagle mix went after the maltese. She bit the maltese's ear ( a scratch) but I am concerned about what would have happened if we hadn't been there to stop her. She has only attacked once before in the four months that we have had her.
Avatar f tn Yes it is called reverse sneezing and is totally harmless,=)
