Avatar n tn your reduced vision due to cataracts and RK scars on your cornea and worsening of dry eyes. My wife and I have different types of dry eyes (doctors call it ocular surface disorder) my are dry and hers watered all the time. Restasis has worked for us for over 10 years. DRY EYE: 1. since you also have dry mouth, you need to be seeing an MD ophthalmologist. Ask them to do blood tests to be sure you do not have Sjorgren's Syndrome (often very dry mouth and eye) 2.
Avatar f tn I've posted here before but I'm hoping someone new will see this and have an answer. Been to opthamologist 3 times with this issue, something like a fog or blur in my right eye, its present most of the time but sometimes its not as bad. I was born with polar cataracts which optham. says is so insignificant that its not causing my trouble. I believe him because if I've had them all my life why are they suddenly bothering me. Do not have age related cataracts yet.
Avatar m tn Your profile indicates you live in the United States. So Ivig eye drops must be used in an experimental study as it is not an FDA approved medication that a regular RX can be written for. Also it is important you understand the risks of chronic steroid eye drops which include cataracts and glaucoma. Generally speaking we do not want patients with Sjorgren's syndrome on steroids for long periods.
Avatar f tn No restasis does not cause floaters. I have been on restasis for about 3 years and my wife 7 and I have hundreds of patients on restasis. Now floaters are common and can occur anytime. Thus people decide that their floaters are due to whatever they have been doing. Example attributing them to flying, reading, watching tv or having their pupils dilated. Remember it take 4-6 months for restasis to become fully effective.
Avatar f tn Yes, the capsule that holds the cataract is removed and a lens inserted. But more cataracts can form, especially if propelled by steroids. Restasis has made a world of difference in the pain- it is soooo much better. With more moisture being made, I have less incidents of the pain being so bad that I can't even open my eyes. I still have times when I can't see anything but not nearly so much.
Avatar f tn I would suggest a trial of cyclosporin (Restasis) as it is much safer long term because of the steroid side effects of cataracts, glaucoma and cornea infection. Not in some cases it has lasted 30-40 years and is more commin in females. So you are probably asking for trouble continuing to wear contacts. You should place yourself under the care of an ophthalmologist Eye MD that specializes in cornea and external disease.
4319578 tn?1352739861 Using Refresh Tear from Allergan USA, but not getting the best result. Restasis is not available in BD. What can help me for dry eye?
Avatar m tn The pin hole could clear vision if it is refractive, and in some cases could make blurring by corneal diease, corneal drying and cataracts better (esp with posterior subcapsular cataracts) 4. I doubt seriously if your corneal specialist attributes your problem to two weeks of Visine. 5. Your symptoms are compatible with dry eye (tear dysfunction syndrome) 6.
Avatar f tn I saw an opthomologist at that time and was told I had Blepharitis and was given two Rxs, FML and Azasite. The problem then resurfaced and then I was told it was Rosacea of the eye, but I dont have Rosacea of the skin or anything like that and everything I've read about Rosacea of the eye also shows it being related to the skin condition. The problem is only in my left eye. I also get a blurring feeling in that eye.
Avatar n tn 1. Restasis is great, go to may home page and look under Journal posts, scroll through and read the article on dry eyes. Both my wife and I are on restasis. Her for 6-7 years for eyes that watered constantly (poor quality tears) me 2 years for no tears. Restasis helps both types. Remember takes 6 months to work, definitely an act of faith. Often stings when you start but generally stop after a couple of weeks. We both use all the drops out of a single dropperette before opening a new one.
Avatar n tn Well, one month later, he informs me that I have cataracts (posterior subcapsular cataracts) and that they are a .5 on a scale of 1-4. I asked him if Lotemax caused this and he said "no". It couldn't happen in a month (at a dose of 2x per day) and at this low of a dose. He then began to suggest that a lot of things can cause PSC - but I don't have any of those risk factors. Am I an example of steroid-induced cataract? Can this cataract be improved or relinquished?
Avatar n tn I am very lucky that although my right eye has uveitis, glaucoma successfully being treated and cataracts I still have 20/30 vision because I keep up on everything and follow my doctor's orders! Unfortunately my detail vision is low and the haze plus floaters and debris in my right eye make things very difficult to focus on.
Avatar f tn I had a prescription for Restasis and used that for all the time I was under treatment. I had heard they were supposed to increase eye moisture. Frankly I didn't notice any difference. I did also use other drops. When I used the drops it was because I was unable to focus on my reading or on the computer and with the TV. I did not notice any improvement. I still get double vision, blurring, and fuzziness which the drops don't seem to help.
Avatar m tn I have discussed restasis eye drops with my optometrist and he told me that it wasn't a good idea. He also told me that he sees no signs of blepharitis and that it's probably allergies and gave me Opticrom to use (which were unsuccessful and stung my eyes and made them redder temporary -- as the side effect). He also said that the tear film over my eyes is very thin.
Avatar f tn Restasis (best) or Xiidra (widely expensive and not as effective). A brand new drop Cequa has been released which is stronger than either but it is very new and I have no experience with it yet and don't know the cost. PSC cataracts don't make the surgery any more difficult.
Avatar n tn Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Avatar f tn Cataracts removed July and August 2009. Severe burning both eyes. MD states dry eye reason for problem. Using Restasis twice daily, also Genteel eye drops several times daily and Genteel lubricant at bedtime. Problem is unresolved. Is there a solution to this problem or do I just have to learn to live with the constant burning. I am concerned that all of these drops may eventually have an impact on my vision.
122065 tn?1241385329 I have been prescribed Restasis for my dry eyes and wanted to get an independent opinion regarding it's safety. I am concerned that there could be problems down the line after the drug has been around 20+ years that is unknown at this time. Do you feel it is safe without any long-term harm to the eyes, knowing that it is an antiinflammatory for the eyes, from what I understand. Thank you for your input!
Avatar m tn dry eyes use the search feature and archives to read about treatment. Most ophthalmologists now us RESTASIS before the plugs (me too) because the plugs tend to fall out or irritate eye and Restasis is such a fantastic medicine.
Avatar f tn t see because my eyes were dry and she had sent a prescription for Restasis to my pharmacy. We knew I had cataracts for about 8 years and a macular pucker in one eye for about 2 years. I had never been told by the doctor and her other doctors that I had dry eye. I ordered my previous reports and a past eye doctor of mine examined them. He consulted with me and showed me that my glare tests were very bad. The doctors reported my dry eye condition at every exam but nobody ever told me about it.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the prompt reply. Restasis is only available in the U.S. and a prescription is necessary I was told. I am in Montreal. What exactly is in this medication that is so helpful? Can a Canadian cross the border, visit a clinic, and get such a prescription because at this point, I am ready to try just about anything. I see the top ophthamologist at one of the hospitals in Montreal and he told me to search the net for info on SLK as the man runs he has so many patients.
Avatar f tn Dear Ironman850, Dry eyes are a chronic condition. Restasis improves tear production and has been shown to improve progression of dry eyes. If your symptoms are improved off of Restasis, it is alright to stop. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar m tn I have severe dry eye and in pain and too sensitive to restasis can eye plugs help?
Avatar n tn My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Avatar n tn I have noticed the burning sensation you have discussed. What is the success rate for Restasis for people who have tried it and stuck to the Restasis program.
Avatar f tn sort_by=date Both my wife and I have moderately severe dry eyes. Both of us are on restasis with complete success. She for 6-7 years and me for one and a half year. IT WILL TAKE 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU SEE THE FULL BENEFITS OF RESTASIS SO DON'T STOP THEM. Restasis eye drops does not cause cancer if it did neither my wife or I would be taking them. I personally would not have plugs put in. they fall out, they can scratch the eye. If you're not on Omega 3 I would start them.
