kidney-stones

Avatar m tn whe a kidney stone is stuck in a ureter tube and is not allowing fluid to pass from the kidney to the bladder why would you put a stent in the uterer tube instead of removing the kidney stone???
Avatar m tn First off, many of the herbs and supplements suggested for kidney stones, at best, may aid in urine flow to some degree, but there is no plant or vitamin that can MELT kidney stones, because all stones are made with varying amounts of CALCIUM, which cannot be dissolved without risking losing other things made of calcium such as bones and teeth! Only Uric acid stones have the least amount of calcium content and therefore CAN be reduced in size through medication.
Avatar f tn I didn't now that frequent kidney-stone formation was a symptom of Sjogren's syndrome. Or are you just mentioning the fact that you have Sjogren's syndrome, and that you make kidney-stones as well as having it? Anyway, besides ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) to break up the stones, they can perform a cystoscopy or a ureteroscopy, and pull the stone out.
Avatar f tn A referral to a kidney doctor or nephrologist may help. Treatment for MSK involves managing UTIs, removing kidney stones, and preventing recurrent infections and stones. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn How the stones are approached depends on a lot of factors, but may include lithotripsy, which is breaking up the stones using sound waves, ureteroscopy, which is breaking them up under direct vision using a laser, or PCNL, which is looking into the kidney directly through a small incision in the back, and breaking up and removing the stones with an instrument.

5900973 tn?1396064391 I found out monday I have kidney stones for the 2nd time this pregnancy... :( I am going in friday for my csection and just hoping the pain eases up for me or that I just pass the dang stone... I dont want to be dealing with that after the birth. It just seems like bad timing, not that there is a good time for these things... Avatar m tn I think this is a rational concern. Yes, kidney stones can cause damage to the kidneys. Not all the time though. It can cause the kidney to atrophy, thin and not function as well. Or an infection can happen related to the stones. But, when the damage happens, it is usually when the stones are not detectible in terms of symptoms. The person doesn't have pain so they go a very long time with the stone. You had pain and are scheduled for surgery.
Avatar f tn My cat Mini is a 6-year old male cat and has recently diagnosed CRF. Also kidney stones are found in the L kidney and one in the L ureter. The vet in Hong Kong said there's nothing we can do to get rid of the stone in the ureter, only surgery of removing the L kidney, but since his R kidney is not healthy as well (calcium deposits found in the R kidney), complication rate is very high, death rate is like 60%.
Avatar f tn The PTH is normal, but this should always be measured along w/ Calcium (esp with history of stones). Hypothyroidism may decrease GFR but is not likely to cause kidney stones.
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.

Avatar f tn Percocet/dilaudid. Long story stort, I was diagnosed with kidney stones septemper 18th and found out I was pregnant a week later. The baby was planned but the stones were not, haha. Avatar f tn MY husband took me to the ER, and it turned out I had a deformed kidney that was blocked, full of stones, and I had a stone trapped in my urethra. A kidney specialist actually told my it was the "funkiest" kidney he had ever seen. They put a stint in me for 3 months, and then they blasted the stones with a laser. My left kidney is now about 30% functional. (My right is normal.) I'm now 4 months pregnant, and having pain on my left side.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones almost 3 years ago but I did not get them removed as my Dr told me they could not kill me or cause any life threatening diseases, but recentley I have noticed a little bit of stomach discomfort, I would like to say pain but it doesnt hurt , it kind of feels like something is there like gas, and my stomach gurgles a little bit and once in a while I will feel a little bit of a slight pinching pain in different spots over my belly , it feels like its through the b
Avatar n tn In Dec, ultrasound showed hydronephrosis and hydroureter with stones again in the lower pole of the kidney. Nothing was done other than observation. In Jan, a bunch of small stones passed naturally. Last week, Feb, a mag3 renal scan and ultrasound were done that showed hydronephrosis and hydroureter still present but no stones in the kidney. The uptake and washout of urine from the kidney was slow compared to the other kidney (about 70% vs 30% function for good and bad kidney instead of 50-50).

Avatar f tn Hi and WELCOME to our Kidney Stone Community. I'm not a doctor, but do have too much experience with kidney stones. For me, I'd get pings and pangs in my kidney as well as microhematuria (blood you cannot see by eye) in my urine when I have stones. I've also had the flank pain you describe .. for me it's been in the lower back. I hope with lots of water your stones move out for you uneveventfully. Please keep in touch. From what I've read stones <5.
Avatar m tn Small kidney stones may naturally be expelled through the urine while bigger stones may cause obstruction and infection. Take the medicine as prescribed and do keep us posted with your follow-up. Best regards.

Avatar f tn Small stones less than 5 mm are let to pass naturally, with medications support and by drinking plenty of oral fluids. For stones greater than 5mm upto 2cm options like Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) are used to break up the stone. Good Luck. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
