Common Questions and Answers about Relief from cat allergies medication

cat-allergies

Avatar m tn Did your girlfriend recently start using a different shampoo for the cat? Different flea/tick medication or collar? Did the cat recently go on any medication for anything? (it's not likely, but if the cat recently started taking a medication and you're allergic to that medication, perhaps being around or petting the cat cause some of that med to get into YOUR system causing your allergic reaction). Are you 100% it's teh cat you are reacting to?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar n tn Please visit your veterinarian for more suggestions to help get your cat some more relief. A specialized hydrolyzed protein prescription diet may also be a key factor in helping your cat. Fish may or may not be the culprit. Don't make assumptions, but feel free to avoid fish if you wish. Seeing a veterinary dermatologist may also be of some help for more specific targeting answers. Avatar n tn I think it depends on what is "normal" for you. These pulmonary function tests use numbers that are based on population averages. My FEV1 numbers are often well over 120%, and the next person may have a FEV1 of 85% and still be considered normal. It depends on the size of your lungs. I have a huge set of lungs for a person my size, but my asthma gives me a great deal of trouble with outdoor running during the winter time (thanks to cold air).
Avatar m tn ll give you whatever medication to help and try to keep your cat away from where you sleep in the meantime. I have a dog and I know that's hard but that is supposed to be helpful. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Your symptoms present exactly the same as mine. I have cat allergies, but have had a cat for the past year with no problems. However, just a few days before I got this rash, we took in another cat. So I'm thinking it could be allergies that cat. However, when I looked up pictures of the rash online, it looked more like irritant contact dermatitis rather than allergic contact dermatitis. Oh dear, I just saw that you wrote in 2008, so I'm sure your rash is gone by now.
4963258 tn?1395602072 I've always had allergies but they seem to be wayyy worse since I've been pregnant. Anyone else have the same issues?
Avatar n tn my cat has a small wound (from scratching i think) on her head. can i put Cortizone 10 ointment on it?
Avatar f tn The allergy would be to cat dander, which as Linda said, is actually pollen and other irritants that migrate to cat fur. The symptoms are those typical of airborne allergies and rarely cause skin itching. However, if the cat has fleas that could certainly account for your itching.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn Some vets will recommend benadryl to cats with allergies. Usually, those allergies are presented by a cat scratching, not a swollen throat and paw. Talk to the vet first. You need not make an apointment. Call the vet and ask him if 1 ml one or twice a day is good for her. Good luck with your kitty.

168348 tn?1379357075 I got a product called Allergy Relief from Cats and it worked so well. I posted about that some time ago on here, see if anyone could help me with that problem. I wasn't going to give up on my cat. Up until today, I still do not know what makes some people become allergic to some cats. I wasn't allergic to my cat, and neither was mom or any other family member. Only my husband. It makes me wonder if it has to do with people's immune system instead of just something else.
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar f tn I'm 15 weeks along, and my allergies are killing me right now. I can barely breathe and look like I've been crying for days. I know that Benadryl is safe during pregnancy but that stuff knocks me out and the rest of my day is shot... Any suggestions on what other allergy medication is safe to take? That won't make me drowsy?
Avatar f tn My boyfriend is plagued with the same problems. He has even had sinus surgery twice and I DO NOT recommend that you do that because it sounds like you have allergy problems. My boyfriend had his septum straightened, which helps him breathe, but the sinus opening and scrapping did not help him because his problem is allergies. That sounds like your issue too. You really need to get an allergy test at the Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) doctor.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn Does not look like it. My cat had something similar and it was the starting of food allergies. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I have asked my doctor but the ony answer they offered was to change my soap, they also gave me medication for a bacterial vaginal infection but that made no difference. I do not have itiching any time other than following some form of friction. Soap is not the problem, please help I am nearly to the point of not wanting sex beacuse of the after effects.
209987 tn?1451935465 So the vet said that our baby was suffering from allergies, but he didn't tell us from what or what to do about it. I'm assuming it's a dietary thing...possibly cheese? Someone said something about giving her some benadryl...are there any other medications ( would prefer homeopathic) out there aside from benadryl that might work? Are there benadryl tablets? She won't take my son's liquid form...spits it out even though I tired to shoot it down her throat with a baby syringe.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.
