Common Questions and Answers about Red skin lotion

Avatar f tn I am a 43 year old female and I wanted to know why my skin turns instantly red when I go outside. I may be out just for 5 minutes and people think I've been laying out in the sun all day. I have noticed that my tolerance to the sun is less and less since I had my son six years ago. Am I allergic to the sun or do I have some weird disorder?
Avatar n tn It's not painful or anything, but I think I read something that said if the skin gets too red, amputation might be needed. This scares me to death so I have to get a professional opinion.
Avatar m tn Hello, Sorry replied to another question first. Persistent red skin on chest can be due to photodermatitis, polymoprphous light eruption of dermatitis skin. Apply some calamine lotion and wear cotton clothes. If the symptoms persist then please get an examination done from a dermatologist and also get pityriasis versicolor ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

1660902 tn?1302624156 I have always had very dry itchy skin so I have to use lotion on my skin after every shower. After I apply the lotion and my skin cools down the patches dissappear. These patches do not hurt and they are not itchy. I did a little research on psoriasis and found out that they can be triggered by beta blockers, and I have been on a beta blocker (propranolol) for the past 5 years. Does it sound like I have a mild case of psoriasis or something else?

Avatar f tn its dry and some what red but not very itchy unless touched. Its also on my pubic bone, at first i thought it was an allergic reaction because im living in a very hot tropical climate plus the shaving. Im getting a bit worried that it might be an STD. What is it, i started taking antibiotics, im in cambodia and the medical service is pretty much non existant. What kind of pills should i be taking or cream? Please help.
Avatar n tn You could also use an over the counter antibacterial cream like mupirocin till you see your skin specialist. It would be best to consult a skin specialist if the rash does not resolve in a few days. You should get the relevant investigations as advised by your doctor including blood work. Let us know about what your skin specialist advises and if you have any other doubts. Post us about how you are doing. Regards.

Avatar f tn Pityriasis rosea is a common human skin disease which presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and itching. Topical and oral steroids are needed. Water, sweat, and soap may cause irritation and should be avoided in the disease. Topical zinc oxide and calamine lotion are useful for pruritus.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to viral rash which may be due to any viral rash or hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. They are common after viral infections. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin.
Avatar f tn If poisoning develops, the blisters and red, itching skin may be treated with dressings of calamine lotion, Epsom salts, or bicarbonate of soda. Antihistamine medications may help. If it persists, it would be best to have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper diagnosis and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn About three weeks ago I noticed the right side of my shaft was getting red and tender after masturbating with a skin lotion. This has happened before, in almost the same place. Usually I'd stop for a few days, it'd scab over, and be brand new in a few days. I have been active with oral sex, but the first time this happened was before I'd had any sexual contact. Anyways, this time appears to be different.
Avatar n tn You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.
Avatar n tn Twice I have experienced a burning sensation on my arms where the skin has become red. There is no itching or swelling. The second time, it spread to my chest and face. These came on suddenly, lasted about 20 minutes, then disappeared althogether. They happened about a month apart. I am not on medications, but do take niacin (500 mg), fish oil (2000 mg), vitamin C (500 mg), and a multi-vitamin. The fish oil and niacin were prescribed for low HDL. What can be some of the causes for this?

Avatar m tn My husband had radiation treatment in May of 2008 and since then he has had very dry flaky red skin. His skin flakes off in small patches and the skin underneath is red. He has also developed hard and crusted patches in the creases of his ears and nose. Sometimes it cracks and ozzes clear fluid. We have tried every over the counter lotion treatment we can think of and nothing works.
