Recommended dha in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Recommended dha in pregnancy

dha

Avatar f tn I wanted to take a prenatal with the dha in it but I needed special prenatals for constipation. I buy special supplements during breastfeeding for brain development and after a year old I buy supplements that you put in yogurt that are for brain development. Hopefully they make up for me not taking it during pregnancy. I normally do all three if I remember.
Avatar f tn i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary. i take this one. it is made specifically for pregnancy: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=YE-1021 hope this helps!
1095404 tn?1333992839 Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly.
Avatar f tn So i visited a friend today and she looked at my prenatal vitamins that i had with me and was surprised they didn't have dha in them. She gave me some dha vitamins and recommended that i take them and continue to do so. My dr didn't mention dha. Am i alone in this?
Avatar f tn I found them at target and had a pharmacy tech help me make sure they had everything I needed in th He was the knowledgeable and I bought them. In the next week and a half, my nausea was almost gone completely and after that I never had it again. They're called Rainbow Light "prenatal one" and they're actually a food based, vegan and gluten free prenatal pill. I'm not a vegan but they've been pretty good. $10 a bottle for 50 pills.
Avatar f tn The problem with cod liver oil is that it has a higher amount of vitamin A than recommended for pregnancy. Vitamin A can cause birth defects if you take too much of it, and liver (including cod liver) is extremely high in vitamin A. You probably didn't harm your baby only taking it those few times, and of course getting too much vitamin A is not a guarantee for birth defects, it just really increases the chance.
Avatar n tn Keep an eye on yourself as far as dehydration! My last pregnancy I had HG. I am hoping this is not the case with this pregnancy! Hoping you feel better soon!
1109996 tn?1267012897 I am now on over the counter Enfimil ones with DHA in them and love them!!!!! The are gel capsles so they have no strong odor to them and I do not get nasuase from them at all. THis is the first one I have not got sick from. I used to have to take mine at night becasue of getting sick but now I can taek them whenever. I do know and checked on this but my OB said that the FDA insures that all prenatals over the counter and perscription ones have certian things in them and ammounts.
Avatar f tn Eirlis is correct, you need more than just the folic acid. Go to walmart or another large food chain and you can get a pregnancy vitamin with approx 800MCG (micrograms not milligrams) of folic acid. Dr's reccomend taking approx 2-5 milligrams of folic acid only if you have had a child with a neural tube defect (spina bifida, etc). the 5mg won't hurt you or the baby if you do get pregnant.
467126 tn?1283144858 Pregnancy and tanning is always a touchy subject. Some salon owners don’t allow it, while others think it’s completely fine—in fact, many female salon owners say they tanned throughout their own pregnancies. What I hadn’t heard before was a question regarding the safety of sunless tanning while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I bought some prenatal vitamins and they came in a pack with DHA vitamins. Does anyone know what they are or if they are ok to take??
Avatar f tn t a very good idea to ask here as we should not make recommendations on what medications are safe and good to take. What is safe for someone in their pregnancy may not be safe for another (say if you were on other meds like an anticoagulant/blood thinner) some meds can interact with one another and not have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn My doc said there was no reason to get prescription prenatals, that otc were just as good. She recommended nature made prenatal capsules with dha. The dha is important. Often Walgreen's has nature made b1g1 which is nice. You'll need everything in the multivitamin more now than normal cause baby is using up your vitamins.
8171031 tn?1399327634 I have a terrible diet and tried time and time again to change it, but the healthy stuff just isnt fatty enough to help me put on weight (pre pregnancy I was 114 and now I am 121, 8 lbs behind) Is it bad to take two or one and a half prenatal pills? I take generic cvs pills and no fish oil because I throw it right back up. But would it hurt to take two or one and a half instead of one?
Avatar f tn Dha not djs
1192727 tn?1282735542 What should b added in diet 2 increase fertility n increase the chances of pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
Avatar m tn I am with baby _ nature made + dha. Never made me sick either.
Avatar f tn Prenatal that include DHA, DHA is really important for babies brain development. Eat as healthy as you can, lots of fruit, veggies and protein. Try to enjoy this time and not stress. Its so amazing and time will fly by. Congratulations!
Avatar f tn My Dr told me at my second prenatal visit that my vitamin D count was low and that I needed to take 1000 mg everyday along with my prenatal. In my first pregnancy I didn't have this so I eventually stopped taking my prenatal vitamins but with this pregnancy I was starting to slack with the prenatal again until my Dr told me to take my prenatal along with Vitamin D. I've been diligent with taking my vitamins since. Has anyone else been Vitamin D deficient and had to take a supplement?
Avatar f tn Patients with documented CHD should consume about 1 g of EPA+DHA per day, preferably from fatty fish. EPA+DHA in capsule form could be considered in consultation with the physician. 3. Patients who need to lower triglycerides should consume 2 to 4 grams of EPA+DHA per day provided as capsules under a physician’s care.
Avatar f tn Go to the pharmacy and get some otc prenatal vitamins with dha. Nature made with dha capsules are good and doctor recommended but there are other brands as well. Take them every night before bed (easier on stomach at night). Don't drink or smoke or take any medications. Relax. Have fun. Congratulations!
