Ranitidine vs omeprazole

Common Questions and Answers about Ranitidine vs omeprazole

zantac

Avatar n tn A couple years ago he also put me on 20 mg Omeprazole to take once a day for 14 days, after which he said I could start taking the Ranitidine again if i still had the heartburn.
Avatar n tn The GI doc has me switching off omeprazole (prilosec) in the morning and ranitidine (zantac) before bed. Switching the two helps and of course watching what I eat and drink, Right now I am uncomfortable from my dinner - the giant milk shake was a bit too much milk and sugar for me. I have no saage advice for this one.... but can definitely commiserate.
Avatar n tn Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec (omeprazole). These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms worsen then it may be due to H.Pylori infection. You need antibiotics in that case after prescription from a physician. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn You could try some OTC acid reflux meds to start with. I would suggest something with ranitidine or omeprazole. You can take both of them. omeprazole should be taken early in the day to mid afternoon and the ranitidine works best at night. If these don't work, ask your doctor for spirometry or methocholine chalenge. If they do work, you should ask your dr for an endoscope to check for lessions in the esopagus because of the long time you have had the symptoms. Feel better.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Taking Diltiazem, Lisinopril, Aspirin and Ranitidine as well. Have been having constant stomach and chest pains and the doctors are not able to find the cause- at least they don’t think it is a cardiac one./the chest pains/ My gastroenterologist suggested I stop taking Ranitidine and switch to Pantroprazole. I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole.
Avatar f tn Told my doc and she prescribed me Ranitidine to take 2x s day. It totally helped! i noticed it works better if u take it before u eat. Ask your doc about it and if u gwt it hopefully it will help u like it helped me.
Avatar m tn I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.
Avatar f tn About 6-8 months ago I started having a lot of nausea especially after eating, acid reflux taste in my mouth, and this has progressed to epigastric stomach pain as well. My GI doc has me on Omeprazole, Ranitidine, and Amitriptaline. I have tried natural supplements as well. Now I am back having more testing completed to see if this is reflux or something else. Can they do a 4th Nissen if it is reflux? Nervous about my options. Any info/help is appreciated Thanks!!
Avatar m tn He says it is all to do with too much acid in my stomach which is causing all the pain and discomfort. He has give me some Ranitidine 150mg to take twice a day as well as the omeprazole. I also went for blood tests today to check for Helicobacter pylori. I'm to go back to see the doctor when i finish the cause of Ranitidine and find out the blood test results and what will happen next. Rennies are chewable tablets for releif of heartburn and indegestion.
Avatar n tn Nothing works, have tried omeprazole, famotidine, reglan, antacids, ranitidine, and others. My lower throat feels like it cramps and I can't breathe, then the blood and oxygen rushing to deal with that makes my heart start pounding. I am wondering: is there anything I can suggest to my doctors to look at next, or another drug I can try since the only thing that gives me relief is sublingual nitroglycerin and I go through 100 of those a month ? Thanks for ANY suggestions, I am desperate.
19501685 tn?1478887405 I have been to the doctors for CBCs, clotting times, have had 2 chest xrays and 1 chest CT scan - all normal per the pulmonologist. Suffer from Gerd but started taking omeprazole when this all started after going to the ER a couple of months ago. I also had an endoscopy done as well as a nasolaringoscopy where only irritation was found. I don't have any cough, but do feel mucus in my throat and I have to constantly be clearing my throat throughout the day.
1088529 tn?1256844030 I've taken ranitidine (zantac generic) for years. I have liked it because it didn't give me a headache like omeprazole did, or seem to make me kind of dizzy/light headed like it seemed tagamet did. If you feel zantac is not enough for the acid problem, you can take tums or liquid anti-acid, but you need to space it apart- like wait at least a couple hours after taking your zantac to do it. Also, you should let your doctor know if the zantac is not sufficiently treating your symptoms.

Doctor recently prescribed ranitidine before bedtime as my reflux is worse at night. Could the reflux be the cause for the blood?

Avatar f tn I also went to the doc for a lump on my inner left buttock. The doc prescribed my antibiotics and ranitidine. I took the antibiotics and the lump/bump went away, but I never took the ranitidine. About one week ago, I drank some beer and as I drank the beer my stomach started hurting, but I kept drinking (a lot). The next day my stomach started hurting bad! I had a sharp pain and super nauseous. I had a bowel movement (diarrhea) and my stomach feel better.
Avatar f tn azelastine and fluticasone. She also put me on Ranitidine. I also use the nedi-pod. I started feeling better, but after the 30 day supply, I began feeling it all come back. Saw GI and he put me on Dexilant 30 day supply and that did not help. I went back to ENT. She put me back on everything plus methlprednisolone (6 day). I started feeling better for a good month. Even stopped the sleeping pill. Then I started feeling it all come back. Went to ER after a weekend of suffering.
Avatar f tn To help control the stomach acid, one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them, or eat chocolate or spicy or greasy foods .Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec(omeprazole). These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms persist then pls consult a physician. 709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar n tn So many ibuprofen tablets can cause severe acidity. Take and antacid gel and a drug like omeprazole or ranitidine to lower the acid in the stomach. Drinking chilled milk also helps at times. Apart from this eat light bland diet like toast, crackers etc at frequent intervals. It is equally important to consult a doctor immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn t been on ranitidine long, i recently swapped from omeprazole which did nothing for me to ranitidine, so im still giving it some time before i rule out whether its working or not (although so far im not feeling much difference) I didn't realise that food intolerances may not come up in blood work, thanks for that information! seeing an actual gi doctor will be my next step.
Avatar f tn I’ve had a CT scan, ultra sound and blood work done and it all came back normal but this pain hasn’t gone away. I’ve taken omeprazole, carafate and ranitidine but it doesn’t seem to help. I know I need to do an endoscopy and I had one scheduled but I had no one to take me because honestly I’m alone in all of this, my family isn’t very supportive and I have no one to drive me 40 mins to the GI for the endoscopy. I was hoping someone could help.
