Avatar f tn My fiance is 48 yrs old. For about the past 10 months he has been having an allergic reaction to something. Hives, swollen lip, swollen tongue, swollen glands under the tongue. Sometimes he gets just one of these, other times he can get all of them together or a combination of a few of them. The doctor took him off his BP medication(Ace inhibitor). After a couple of months she just put him on Toprol(beta-blocker)-4 days ago.
Avatar n tn My question is could it be an allergic reaction to the medicine since she had been taking it for three days with no problems or is it something else?

Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, I quiet agree with bsml, you should go for the test during your allergic manifestations. This will help to find the agents you are allergic to. Along with avoidance of the allergy medications like anti histamines, you also need to discontinue gastric acid inhibiting drugs like ranitidine. I suggest you to consult allergy specialist and follow the given instructions. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, you may be allergic to blue berries. Allergic reactions can manifest as various forms which includes itching, rash, hives, breathing difficulty, stomach pain, selective areas can be involved. May be due to poor skin integrity in the wrist area or presence of any other allergen which is in contact with wrist. As allergic reactions are IgE mediated, blood tests will show increase in these levels secondary to a food allergy.
Avatar n tn Pepcid AC will not be of much help in reducing or countering the allergic reactions caused by alcohol. This is because famotidine works at the H2 receptor and allergic reactions are mediated via the H1 receptor. Though both are histamine receptors, their mechanism of activation and agonists are different, to a large extent. Pepcid AC can reduce acidity caused by alcohol consumption.
Avatar f tn Several components of the DES could be responsible for the hypersensitivity reaction. These include the polymer coating, the drug (rapamycin for CYPHER and paclitaxel for TAXUS), or the stent itself. Of particular importance for the clinician is the hypersensitivity reaction to the commonly prescribed thienopyridine antiplatelet agent clopidogrel (plavix), which occurs in 5% of patients.
187666 tn?1331173345 Extended family member (in-law) started her chemo today (kind of). Got her port put in, they started her with antihistamines, anti-nausea, blood cell replenishers. Then when they started the actual chemo she turned bright red, her back hurt and she had trouble breathing. They stopped the chemo and pushed normal saline. They're going to try again tomorrow with a synthetic version. First off I thought all chemo was synthetic, not exactly all natural.
Avatar n tn I'm soon to have double knee replacement. I am allergic anti-inflammatory very allergic. Even in the most distant of that type of drug. My Dr prescribed Tramadol and he assures me it's okay, It wont affect me, with a reactoin . Is that true? He wont give me anything afraid I'll get addicted to them(the opiate)I'm scared of Tramadol And I wont be given anything else until I try the Tramadol to actually see if I get do get a reaction.
Avatar n tn The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, and edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction, usually after multiple doses. If drug allergy is suspected you need to discontinue the drug and report to your doctor immediately. In the future avoid further exposure to it as prevention is best. If it is a very necessary you can go for skin testing.
Avatar n tn I am extremely allergic to anti-inflammatory drugs. I am in excruciating pain and am to have both knees replaced. I have never been addicted to any drugs.. But yet wont prescribe Darvocet which I have only taken for 3 months a low dose. Now I'm switched to Tramador, and am very concerned of a reaction from it. Even the most distance of Anti Inflammatory s give me hives and I swell up in the face face tongue throat.
