I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes. I have been reading such negative information about the side effects of Effexor, and even worse, the are withdrawal symptoms if you have to get off of it. Is there anyone reading this that actually had to take effexor along with Raloxifene? If so, could you tell me please if you had a good, or bad experience? Thank you for any input.
The medications currently FDA approved as chemoprevention for breast cancer are tamoxifen and raloxifene. Decisions to use a medication as chemoprevention would be made based on weighing the risks and benefits to the individual patient.
If you search 'ketoconazole' online, the first link that popped up for me is from the NIH (National Institutes of Health in DC) and the second one is from the website 'rxlist', which is pretty good imo at explaining medical/scientific/pharmaceutical stuff at a high level but not completely over my head. Rxlist seems pretty well balanced, and I usually go there when curious about some medication I'm supposed to take.
Aside from radiation, you can ask your doctor about other breast cancer risk reduction strategies such as that of hormonal treatment with tamoxifen or raloxifene. Other breast conditions that may increase the risk of invasive cancer would include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ).

Use of Raloxifene is intended to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and to decrease the risk of invasise breast cancer or to prevent invasive breast cancer from retuning in women who have had invasive BC.
If you have questions or concerns about using it, it would be best to discuss them with the physician who prescribed it.

I am not sure which medication your mother is taking, but Evista (raloxifene) can cause muscle cramps of the legs. Please have your mother make an appointment with her physician.

I have been told by Oncologist that have 5 times risk factor for breast cancer. Am on raloxifene. Last nite I noticed some dimpling on the biopsied breast abt 1" from incision scar. Just had a manual exam by the Oncologist and don't want to seem like a hypochondriac, but should I see him again. He felt nothing during manual exam, but the lump that was removed was not palpable either and only detected by mammo.
Nervous System Disturbances
The NIH states that coma or convulsions could be a sign of Tylenol overdose. According to the RxList, such nervous system involvement is rare, except in the case of a massive overdose or if the person is also taking or has overdosed on other medications that may interfere with the nervous system. Coma can also occur during an overdose if the patient is going into liver failure.
Other forms of treatment post-operatively would include additional radiation therapy, or hormonal treatment with Tamoxifen or Raloxifene. All of these additional treatments are aimed to lessen the chance of recurrence as well as prevent the future development of frankly invasive cancers.

It can also cause fever and chills. The steriods do mask the sysptoms of chemo. rxlist has info about it.
In addition, women over the age of 35 with LCIS who are at treated at the Cancer Center have access to a similar drug, Raloxifene, that may also reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. Cancer Center physicians are participating in a clinical trial called STAR, where the effectiveness of Raloxifene is being compared to that of Tamoxifen for the prevention of breast cancer in high risk women.
Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Stroke might refer to a blockade in some of the brain arteries (ischemic stroke) or to a bleeding of those arteries (hemorrhagic strokes).
I think that Coumadin, being an anti coagulant, may cause strokes of the second type, in particular if associated with high BP.

I suggest that you discuss with your oncologist regarding additional treatments like tamoxifen or raloxifene. These two drugs are proven to further decrease the chance of the cancer recurring on the same or the other breast and I believe would be of great benefit to your mother. However, these drugs have side effects that I believe are manageable and should be discussed well with the oncologist.

I believe that you are a candidate for risk lowering strategies such as taking hormonal agents (raloxifene or tamoxifen), or surgery (mastectomy). All of these should be discussed with an oncologist or surgeon.

09%), 2 X daily for 3 days prior to surgery. After looking on the RXlist medication information site, it says that Xibrom should be used only 24 hours prior to cataract surgery. Any longer could cause corneal adverse events......what kind of events? I'm really nervous about surgery and am beginning to question if I want to go through with it at this time.....What are preferred anesthesias? What do you think about injections, etc......

There are some medications that are used to treat breast cancer that can be tried, though they would be used off label. These include tamoxifen (Soltamox) and raloxifene (Evista), here in the U.S. Another is Danazol. I don't know if they would be available in your country or not. Some of these drugs are quite potent and may have unwanted side effects. Be sure to discuss all of that with your doctor prior to taking them.
The other option is the surgery.
TBG excess production can be hereditary, which is X-linked dominant transmission, or it can be secondary to excess estrogens, as in pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives, hormone replacement, and medications like raloxifene or tamoxifen [4, 5]. The more highly sialylated TBG is cleared more slowly from plasma than the more positively charged TBG, because sialylation inhibits the hepatic uptake of glycoproteins.
Benzodiazepines can very well be addicting meds, they are a schedule class III drug, the same category as Vicoden. From rxlist "Use of benzodiazepines, including lorazepam, may lead to physical and psychological dependence." So i would definitely talk with your doctor before stopping these meds, you might have to do a slow taper. Best of luck to you!
You could try doing a search on the internet. rxlist might be a good place to start. They usually disclose what medications are indicated for.
