394052 tn?1203100849 These are all on maternal side. Brother now with prostate cancer at age 55 and me with stage 1b clear cell ovarian cancer at age 55 (no sign of disease now). I realize with older people and cancer, the docs have always told me, well they were just old enough.to get cancer, which has always annoyed me as I have been doing medical transcription for 40 years now.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to be sure that because I have been diagnoised with breast cancer and have gone through radiation treatment that the Raloxifene will be as affective as Tamoxifene in keeping the cancer from recurring. Thank you for your input.
Avatar f tn Use of Raloxifene is intended to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and to decrease the risk of invasise breast cancer or to prevent invasive breast cancer from retuning in women who have had invasive BC. If you have questions or concerns about using it, it would be best to discuss them with the physician who prescribed it. Best wishes...
492898 tn?1222243598 Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive. Hormone receptor positive breast cancer is depended on estrogen hormone for multiplication and growth and it is rational to block the hormones on which the tumor cells are feeding. Contrary to many people’s belief; hormonal therapy is a more effective form of breast caner adjuvant therapy compared to chemotherapy.
Avatar f tn Along with the increased risk of breast cancer, combined PHT also appears to increase the risk of heart disease, blood clots, and strokes. It does lower the risk of colorectal cancer and osteoporosis, but this must be weighed against possible harm, and it should be noted that there are other effective ways to prevent osteoporosis. Although ERT does not seem to have much effect on breast cancer risk, it does increase the risk of stroke.
Avatar f tn Atypical cells may be the early stages in cancer development, and having these may increase your risk of developing invasive breast cancer in the future. Aside from radiation, you can ask your doctor about other breast cancer risk reduction strategies such as that of hormonal treatment with tamoxifen or raloxifene. Other breast conditions that may increase the risk of invasive cancer would include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). Regards.
Avatar f tn A woman with ADH as well as other risk factors may have a risk that is high enough to consider medications. The medications currently FDA approved as chemoprevention for breast cancer are tamoxifen and raloxifene. Decisions to use a medication as chemoprevention would be made based on weighing the risks and benefits to the individual patient.
Avatar f tn Hello, For a reproductive age woman there is no normal thickness endometrial stripe. The thickness and sonographic characteristics of the stripe will depend upon the phase of the menstrual cycle. In a postmenopausal woman the endometrial stripe should be less than 5mm. Whether fibroids impact infertility is questionable and when thought to do so it is usually when they are located partly or completely within the endometrium: what are called submucosal fibroids.
Avatar n tn We do not know much about the factors that affect these diseases, in part because they are not very common. Many years ago, a link between estrogen alone and endometrial cancer was found. Observational studies suggested that using estrogens combined with progestins would protect the uterus from this risk. Based on this information, physicians began to give combined hormones to women with a uterus.
Avatar n tn hi this is my mums condition thats why im unable to give you the names of the tablets the main cause is 4 weeks ago she started on hormone tablets for breast cancer ,this is her 1st week on radiotheraphy,at the end of the week she has started with servere pains in the groins of her legs and has been unable to get out of bed cause she cant walk and if she trys to stand up she says it feels like her insides are going to fall out.
Avatar n tn Treatment of LCIS is focused on risk reduction for development of cancer and usually falls into one of 3 categories; careful observation, medications to decrease estrogen, or some women might opt for surgery to remove the breasts (prophylactic mastectomy). Decisions are made after discussion and weighing of risks and benefits for the individual patient.
594002 tn?1256303782 Recently had transvaginal ultrasound, came back with endometrial fluid, just had endometrial biopsy and DNC. Dr told me fluid in cavity was not a good thing to have and is a sign of uterine cancer. Well you can believe I am scared and need to wait 10 days for results. Can the fluid be cause by anything else besides cancer?
Avatar n tn My 73 year old Mother recently had a tumor removed from one of the milk ducts in her right breast. She had started bleeding from the nipple out of the blue one day. It was Stage 0 - ductal carcinoma in-situ and the doctor is recommending radiation therapy... 6 weeks, 5 days a week. She was leaning toward the mastectomy to be done with it but he says for her age it's a very rough surgery to go through.
Avatar n tn I have been told by Oncologist that have 5 times risk factor for breast cancer. Am on raloxifene. Last nite I noticed some dimpling on the biopsied breast abt 1" from incision scar. Just had a manual exam by the Oncologist and don't want to seem like a hypochondriac, but should I see him again. He felt nothing during manual exam, but the lump that was removed was not palpable either and only detected by mammo.
Avatar f tn I'm 85 years old and have cancer of the uterus.I'm suppose to have a complete hysterectomy.I have other health issues that could be dangerous if I'm put under. What would your decision be ? just want some feedback.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately in November 2006 that ovary turned malignant as well and I had to have it removed and due to the fact that it was my second bout of cancer, and they still to this day cannot determine whether it was a new spontaneous cancer or a recurrance (I think this is because of the previous good pathology, and the fact that there was squamous cell on the outside capsule of the ovary) I had chemotherapy and radiation treatment with it completing in July 2007. I am currently in remission.

Avatar m tn I saw my gynecologist today and he said my uterus was enlarged and wants me to go for an ultrasound and endometrial stripe test to check for Uterine Fibroids. Everything I read about endometrial stripe test, says it's used to test for Uterine cancer, so now I'm really concerned. Is there anyone whose had uterine Fibroids with enlarged uterus? What were your symptoms? any advice?
Avatar n tn There are no clear guidelines for preventing endometrial cancer. However, doctors recommend a healthy diet and exercise to help control weight and blood pressure. Overall, however, the risks of endometrial and ovarian cancer appear to be reduced with the use of oral contraceptives, - whereas the risks of breast, cervical, and liver cancer appear to be increased. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
Avatar f tn I am taking Effexor XR and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am on Arimidex and was having hot flashes and was depressed after breast cancer treatment. I had been on it before and stopped taking it without any problem. I know everybody is different. It sure helped me!!!
Avatar f tn I had stage 4 endo at age 33 and the doctor said I needed a full hysterectomy which removed ovaries, uterus and cervix. The doc said it was so bad that if I don't have the surgery when I menstruate I would cough blood if it moved to my lungs. I had the surgery and have been on the estradial patch for at least 5 years. I am on .1 and .5 patch every 4 days. I am now 40 and just went to a new doc and she was shocked I was on such a high dose.
Avatar f tn hi,my mother in law had endometrial cancer one year ago,had hesterectomy and then positive peritoneal cytology.she had 8 cycles of chemotherapy.two months ago she had recurrence of cancer and some cysts are seen in MRI but when she's undergoing the surgery, doctors cannot remove the tumors as she has complete bowel obstruction and frozen abdomen.she cannot eat and drink.she is given ivs and a drainage pipe inserted from her nose to her stomach to suction the fluid from intestines.
967168 tn?1477584489 I know I shouldn't worry but I've ignored symptoms for a year that points to Endometrial Cancer and it's a common cancer that can be caught early and treated. Here's where I'm beating myself with worry, I haven't had a GYN exam since 2007 and I've been going to the same dr since 1998 so he knows me and my symptoms very well.
Avatar n tn i kept on asking my doctor if i have cancer or what.My doctor was just smiling and trying to comfort me by saying "dont worry"after the surgery.i am scheduled to get 2 shots of zoladex.just want to know what is zoladex means. And can you interpret the result of the biopsy: the anteverted uterus is enlarged and measures 9.7x 7.3x6.1 cm (lwh).there are at least 7 myomas with the ff locations and sizes; 1-2 anterior corpus intramural=1.5 and 1.9 cm 3 anterior corpus,subserous=1.
Avatar f tn 7cm DCIS In-Situ. The lymph nodes tested negative and they said lucily the cancer has not spread to any part of the body. (We were scared of lumpectomy because of the radiation follow-ups and also thinking the cancer might return) She has tested ER+ though. Is this something to be very worried of? Is there a chance of the cancer occuring in the other breast? Her periods have n t stopped completely but she could just see some minimal blood..
Avatar n tn I have been on Tamoxifen for a little over two years for breast cancer. I am 46 and pre-menopausal. The first 22 months on the tamoxifen I had my period and occassional hot flashes. then one month my period stopped and my hot flashes. At month 27 on Tamoxifen, I had an ultrasound that shows a lickening of the uterean wall and 3 complex ovarian cysts. My Dr. is doing a biopsy but my question is why would my periods AND the hot flashes go away completely?
107693 tn?1252864443 5 cm possible pre-cancer and divirticulosis. On wed. he told me that they were not pre-cancer..i will get the full report on August 3..I have other healt issues, Endometrial polyps, and thyroiditis.. My question is can having colon polyps and divirticulosis cause a high blood cell count? I had this in May and June but july was 9.6 which is considered in range.
Avatar n tn My mother is on Arimidex and is doing pretty good. From the meds it sounds like your cancers are estrogen positive, so the goal with the meds is to stop the estrogen production. It's like a drug induced menopause of sorts. I am on lupron which does the same thing. I don't have any side effects either but people are different and it's all up to you, what you want to do. I don't personally know of anyone who has had cancer that isn't on hormone therapy.
