I've been taking regular adderall (non xr) for 10t years for ADHD. The medicine does help with the ADHD but I'm concerned with the long term effects. I know Adderall can cause weight loss /decrease appetite as a side effect. With the exception of the past couple of years I was able to keep my wieight down partly due to the drug. However the past 2 years or so I seem to be gaining wieight.

Please help. My son is autistic. He has bowel issues. He can hold in an enema. He is on several meds. Adderall, Metformin, Risperdol, clonidine. I'm wondering if the weight gain is causing the adderall to be less effective. He's on 20mgs in the morning and 10mgs in the afternoon. He complains about he can't focus any more. It's making him very upset and very hard to deal with. I'm at my wits end. He will only deal with me. I feel like I'm a terrible mother.

Why are the side affects of antidepressants sleepiness drowsiness and weight gain? So, I’m supposed to get better from sleeping all day and having no motivation with medication that has these side effects? It makes no sense! They should prescribe Adderall for people who are depressed...

Effexor, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. Often the gain was not instant, like with the older generation of meds. Took a year for one to put 50 lbs on me in a few months. I also have been on Wellbutrin. It didn't help with depression, and increased anxiety to point where I had painful muscle spasms. At 74, and after anal cancer treatment, the really awful side effect is non stop diarrhea, which almost landed me in the hospital in one case.

Its vital these conditions are ruled out (eg your weight gain may not be related to the medication). So SWIM's on day two now. Had some really weird dreams last night, none about hydrocodone thank god! =P Anyway, woke up with some of the runs, some chills, and felt like a 10 lb weight was attached to SWIM's back. Took some ibuprofin and an imodium and feel better. SWIM's looking forward to a brighter tomorrow and only regrets not realizing what the drugs were doing to him sooner.

Does anyone else have this issue?? How did you cure it? I never lost weight with Adderall (thank god) because if I did I would've dipped into below average BMI since currently mine is 19. I am very insecure about how small I am and I've been gaining weight recently but due to this I'm losing again and I'm having a lot of self-esteem and self-worth issues due to it.

Congrats on quitting! That's awesome news you should be really proud!!! I lost 12 lbs (5.4kg) then gained 14lbs (6.35 kg) back after the morning sickness passed. I'm at 26 weeks as of today and the dr says it's normal. I started off a little over weight so I didn't want to gain too much. I think I'll end up with another 15 lbs before I'm done. It seems like I'm always hungry now. When I quit smoking I was snacking more often, but this is different.

My ADD symptoms seem very slightly improved, except brain fog/chatter, and sleep habits which are greatly improved. Why would it cause weight gain and sleepiness? Does my dose need changed or should I ask to try diff medication? Could my response be somewhat diagnostic in nature?

I've never heard of this happening. Pay attention to what you are eating, since you are off medication you may be doing some emotional eating and not realizing it.

GERD is what I initially thought after researching my symptoms. I've always had a nervous stomach, I've had issues with a nervous stomach since I was younger; throwing up easily. Do you know if GERD would cause my body to change so drastically? I don't understand the 40+ lb gain within a year.. Would GERD treatment resolve my swollen/excessive weight gain? I've had this ongoing cough for a very long time and presents it's self with stress and anxiety.

Another thought is that weight gain among adults with adhd is common due to (they think) lack of impulse control. If the Vyvanse can control this the Contrave might not be needed? This is why I kind of assume the prescriptions were from two different doctors. Hope this helps.

10 days of vics, i think I was bloated before and its coming off, so yea I think you can gain weight on the pills. I took ativan at first and it helped come down off the real high anxiety moments, but I feel good now, and you will too. Just stay posting, it has helped me so much. Good luck, start drinking tons of water, it helps.

ve noticed other can smoke and maintain theirs...how can I gain a massive amount of weight in a short period of time without quitting??

Hi everyone! So, I have a quick question. Is it normal to gain weight after quitting your drug of choice? I'm 92 days clean from hydrocodone and I've noticed that I've gained weight these last few months... fml! It s*cks because the first week of detox; I lost soo much weight. I was tiny. Now, I've gained all the weight back and than some. Dammmnnnn! The last time I weighed this much was when I was pregnant. Sooo, is weight gain normal while detoxing\ getting sober from drugs??

I thought I would be in trouble with the weight gain. I am 36 weeks pregnant and way the same as my pre pregnancy weight and am not overweight at all. But, since I had a few ultrasounds done and I measured out perfectly. Doctors say baby and I are healthy..just dont lose weight..

My words get me into trouble and I am no pleasure to have around adhering to the agenda, but now others can keep up with me, despite the distractability I cause, instead of the insensitive hyperfocus. The weight gain is coming back along with a craving for sugar. I imagine coupling this with excercise and a proper diet would help. At night I still take a benzo which I do not recommend.

My first experience with Abilify was an abnormal one (so please do not take this too seriously, as it seems I was an exception), since it threw me into a manic state; however, my Psychiatrist has come to the conclusion that I'm just wired completely different. After being weaned off the stuff for about a week, my Psychiatrist put me back on it, but a fourth of what I was taking.

Actually I haven't had weight gain on steroids, though I've only had 2 rounds thus far. I have to say I haven't had relief of symptoms either, so I may not be opting for the IV stuff again. Steroids have produced the world's reddest face on me, and that's it. That goes away quickly each day. I'm thinking your weight gain is from fluid retention, and will remit pretty soon. Make yourself drink at least a quart of water more than usual to help flush out that stuff.

Weight gain *****. I've gained some weight & feel awful about it. My obgyns not concerned about it.All you can do is eat healthy & exercise. Quitting smoking will put some weight on. In the end it'll be worth it, just a little extra to work off.

it's been over 2 months. i eat right, get plenty of exercise, drink alot of water. funny how i never cared what kind of drugs i was pushing thru my body, but i always tried to maintain a healthy diet. anyway, i can't seem to gain any weight. i am at least 15 pounds underweight. i want to look like i stopped using, you know? i am as strong as a horse and feel fine. anyone got a sure fire way to gain weight. feels like i might blow away. i also drink whey protein shakes full of ice cream.

I took Wellbutrin 150 for about a year and did not gain weight. I went up to 300 in May and still have not gained all the weight back from my last anxiety attack. So in my case, no it does not make me gain weight.
