Avatar n tn It's now day 32 since I quit smoking. I was a smoker of 15 years, smoking about a pack a day. I've been chewing Nicorette, but the past week I've gone down to chewing a piece every other day. I've been drinking a lot of water, exercising everyday, and eating healthier to help with my withdrawal. I also have cut caffeine out at the same time I quit smoking. Some of the things I've been experiencing: 1. hot flashes/burning skin 2. flaky, dry skin 3.
Avatar f tn However, yes, symptoms like anxiety and headaches can re-surface time and again for a few months, especially if you are stressed or around smokers or are sitting idle. Usually chest tightness is a common symptoms in those who quit smoking. This lasts for a few days after last cigarette. The tightness (not actually pain) is due to anxiety and stress and due to various changes in body due to nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar m tn I have suffered in the first three days from moderate nicotine withdrawal symptoms like Shaking, sweating or feeling very cold, flu like symp, nausea, heart palpation, chest / heart fluttering, and feeling tired /sick and Insomnia/anxiety and strong craving to smoke. All above symptoms become mild in the following days however from time to time they come back in a moderate to severe manner.
Avatar f tn Hi and congratulations on your quit! I didn't use Chantix, but another member here who will be along, did use it so might be able to give better advice. I've read many testimonies of people who did have side effects and I would have to say it's *probably* the Chantix but a little early to know for sure since everyone's quit symptoms are different and this could just be Your quit symptom. A headache is not uncommon when quitting smoking.
Avatar n tn I smoked for 2 years. I know not a long time but this is how I quit. Ok I started just smoking half then I'd go down to a half of a half. I also chewed gum everytime id get an urge. And I wouldn't smoke that first one in the mornings. Id wait as long as I could then smoke. You could try eating sunflower seeds too. Hope that helps. Good luck! Princess.

Avatar m tn I quit 2/3 so far (effexor from 150 mg down to 50 mg) and am in dilemma weather to quit completely or to increase a bit because I am going through smoking withdrawal as well, or should I start lexapro as my doctor suggested? But main question how long this depressed mood can last? I have been weaning off for 2 months but for the last 3 days I lost interest in everything and just cry for no good reason. I bought some cigarettes again to see how will I feel.

Avatar f tn Kudos to you for quitting smoking! Cough wheezing tightness of chest are all part of the withdrawal symptoms and can be easily overcome by medication. Other than this it could be smoker’s lung which causes an asthma like condition. You can discuss this with your PCP or go to a smoking de-addiction center and take treatment for this. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn If these symptoms DO correspond to when you quit smoking, and if you quit "cold turkey," it's very likely that you're experiencing nictotine withdrawawl. Nicotine is known to be one of THE most addictive substances in the world, and just stopping cold can be very nasty. You could try using a nicotine replacement patch and see if that helps ease the symptoms, but I'd still recommend seeing your doctor to rule out an organic problem.
Avatar f tn So my other thought that your neuropathy could be due to a smoking withdrawal symptom. I had symptoms from withdrawing from sugar such as muscle pain to an insanely itchy scalp and these symptoms lasted for about a month. I thought I'd have a look online about smoking withdrawal symptoms and found an article Becoming a Nonsmoker from the Guide To Psychology website...
397539 tn?1233258097 t have these terrible withdrawal symptoms, and you can re-learn how to live your life without smoking. I quit in 1992 after 23 years of smoking a pack a day. I had tried everything from cold-turkey to hypnosis, but only the patch helped me. Remember, you CANNOT smoke while on the patches, because it will cause a nicotine overload and you could have a heart attack. If you were a light smoker (but it doesn't sound like it) you could start with the 14mg/day patches. Good luck, Autum!
Avatar n tn You have taken the right decision to quit smoking, that’s the first step, now follow it up and don’t give in to smoking. The lungs age with smoking as in comparison to the person’s age. If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, the breathlessness could be due to compromised lung functions. You can discuss with your doctor about nicotine replacement products or other medications.
Avatar f tn ve smoked since I was 11 so 10 years now and I tried to quit when I found out I was pregnant and the doc told me to just cut back so that I have better oxygen in my blood because quitting could make my body go into withdrawal shock and could cause more harm to me and the baby if I quit rather than just do it. My body is too used to smoking.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking by switching to electronic cigarettes. They only have nicotine in them - no toxins and they emit water vapor when you exhale. They are less expensive than regular cigarettes too. It takes a little time to get used to it, but I can't stand regular cigarettes now.
Avatar m tn Hello, Today is my 8th day of quitting smoking, i have read a bunch of stuff about withdrawal symptoms. But up to today, im still feeling light headedness, dizziness, irritation, and tight chest (no pain), and no short breath, but as if i i always want to take deep breaths. Been passing through a stressful and depressive state before i quit, and i dont know if quitting smoking added these physical symptoms. Right before i quit, had some ekg tests and blood tests and all was good.
Avatar f tn My doctor was the one who told me to cut back and not quit cold turkey. That withdrawal are worse for the baby than to cut back slowly. However it was harder than it seemed and I still smoke.
