smoking

Avatar n tn I smoked for 2 years. I know not a long time but this is how I quit. Ok I started just smoking half then I'd go down to a half of a half. I also chewed gum everytime id get an urge. And I wouldn't smoke that first one in the mornings. Id wait as long as I could then smoke. You could try eating sunflower seeds too. Hope that helps. Good luck! Princess.
Avatar f tn we are only human so take it slow ok? I found the patch really helped me. I quit during both my pregnancies using the patch. I wish I hadn't started again after giving birth but I feel good knowing my babies grew inside me without nicotine and all the other **** going into their systems. Now I'm going to get off oxys and once I've been clean for at least a few months I'll quit smoking. i wouldn't dream of doing both at the same time.
318890 tn?1297965320 What you are doing, using the patch as well as smoking is VERY dangerous and I strongly suggest that if you can't quit smoking with the patch, then you are better off smoking without the patch. You really have to want to quit, no matter how hardcore your addiction, you can quit if you have the will to do it.
Avatar f tn I started smoking when I was about 10, quit when I was 50. Got a carton for my 13th birthday. One of the 50 times I quit smoking I was sitting there wearing a patch on each arm, chewing a piece of Nicorette, puffing on a Marlboro all at the same time. It's rough!! It finally took. What bothered me the most at first was people smoking, but I made an oath that I would never be a reformed smoker that looks down their nose at smokers. One of the times I failed we went to the Casino.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I have one day in. I quit yesterday May 31, I made it one day so far, but I am using a patch and the gum. I dont know if i am ready to quit, but I have to for health reasons. I have copd. I think sometimes you have to make yourself quit whether your ready or not. And I am not really ready, but I will die if I dont. So i am going to really try and I know its going to be twice as hard not wanting to, but I dont have a choice.
Avatar f tn My husband (45 yo)was using the Nicotine patches to try to quit smoking, but unfortunately had a bad reaction and overdosed. He had only been using the 14mg ones for 19 days. I can't find anything on the net about having a problem to use a lower dose patch, or anything if he was stupid enought to go back to smoking. A friend in the Respitory dept told me he could have the same problem and to back into an over dose with either. Does anyone have any info to help with this.
Avatar f tn Having the same problem! I quit smoking cigs however my fiance smokes black and milds. So after two weeks of not smoking at all I gave in to cravings and asked him to let me hit the black and mild. Now I'm having a hard getting my mind set to quit. I know I have to quit. It's very hard. Idk what to do.
Avatar n tn t let anyone give you that excuse that it is so stressful to quit smoking that you may as well keep smoking. Smoking is poison for the baby, they'd rather have the stress. But if you get the patch it should not be that stressful. My brother quit in one day because -- guess what happened from his smoking, he had a heart attack and found out he needed a quadruple bypass. (Wakes you up, right?) He did it easily by using a patch, said he never missed the cigs.
736475 tn?1281259327 Oopps - I had the same thing happen to me when using the patch. Do Not Wear The Patch to Bed!!! After all, did we smoke while we were sleeping? Take it off at bed then put a new one on first thing in the morning. Sweet dreams should return.
Avatar f tn I realy want to quit smoking and it is hard for me to say no and put them down anyone have any advise on how to stop smoking.
Avatar n tn Sending good thoughts your way. I quit smoking after 20 years and I found the most helpful thing was to change your routine. Doing things as differently as possible changes your association with craving and helps distract you. It's hard, but once you get through the first few days, every day gets easier and easier.
469210 tn?1219188128 Hey everyone. I just joined this forum today. I am a member of another forum and everyone on it takes it very seriously and is very supportive, so I figured this one would be too. As ridiculous as it sounds, I am scared to quit smoking. Why? I don't really know. I guess because it's part of who I am. Do I want to quit? Yes. Do I dream of having healthy lungs and being able to climb a flight of stairs? Absolutely. Has anyone else felt this way? How did you make yourself ready?
Avatar f tn I just recently started using the Nicotine Transdermal Patch to help me quit smoking. I made the mistake of not reading the entire information slip before starting it. Right now I am on the 21 mg patch, and I have been smoking a little here and there after taking off the patch. I have a severe headache, I am nausious, my lungs feel like their closes up, which is making my asthma worse, and now I have a pain in my right arm. Is this a sign of a nicotine overdose? If so, what should I do?
Avatar f tn Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.

685562 tn?1447155231 Until I quit smoking January 08, I smoked about 3-1/2 packs a day. I used the patches to quit. I've read that the mentally ill do tend to be more likely to smoke.

1845558 tn?1318950603 I have quit smoking many times. Cold turkey then the patch. The nicotine is out of your body within 48 hours, after that it's mental. I would try the patch and acupuncture. You can do it, the question is do u really want too. You have to get out of the habit of picking up, lighting etc...that's what the patch is for. Acupuncture can help with stress and cravings. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Last year I used the patch and quit for 7 months before having a cigarette and the addiction started all over again. This year I have tried twice using the patch but ended up smoking after 3-4 days and gave up the patch.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn I did have a friend who was a smoker, and when she became pregnant her Dr. suggested using the patch or nicotine gum. He told her that if she was not going to be able to quit cold turkey, which was obviously best, then it would at least be better to get the nicotine through replacement therapy rather than a cigarette as it would cut down on all of the other toxins and blood gas changes. That was 5 years ago, and things change, and every Dr.
Avatar n tn Oh and that's bs. You don't have to quit smoking in order to use a patch. In some cases quoting cold turkey will make you sick. You shouldn't smoke on the patch. But you won't necessarily OD. You will just get sick. I don't know about you, but I am a smoker. Sooooo....
Avatar n tn My mother in law also quit smoking using hypnosis. (It didn't work for my bother in law though) I know several other people who have used e cigarettes to quit because they could control the nicotine and slowly decreased their dose until it was 0.
Avatar n tn If these symptoms DO correspond to when you quit smoking, and if you quit "cold turkey," it's very likely that you're experiencing nictotine withdrawawl. Nicotine is known to be one of THE most addictive substances in the world, and just stopping cold can be very nasty. You could try using a nicotine replacement patch and see if that helps ease the symptoms, but I'd still recommend seeing your doctor to rule out an organic problem.
