595141 tn?1239971814 I would imagine you must feel anxious all the time with this game you are playing with yourself. Just think....if you quit smoking, all the worry of when and where to smoke will be gone. No more Febreeze, no more lying, you'll save a LOT of money because you're not only buying cigs, but patches too. You could spend more time with your kids and most of all, you're mind will be free of the "How" "When" "Where". Wouldn't that feel good?
Avatar f tn On ur quest to quit smoking. Tea tree oil chewing sticks and black licorice root (which can be purchased at a health store) help greatly to calm the urges to smoke. It can take 8 min for the strongest urge to subside. Chew on a black licorice root, don't hang out with ppl who smoke for awhile. Find out what ur triggers are and replace them with new, healthier habbits. And most of all, don't feel guilty if u relapse, u can always try again. Dev new coping methods.
Avatar f tn What helped me tremendously was the meter and seeing the progress of my quit. Also, all of the immediate progress of my quit......smelling good, tasting food, not having to go outside anymore and deal with cold, hot, rain & snow : ) Saving money, the admiration in my kids eyes and the best and mosr important thing was the feeling I got when I took back control of my life!
Avatar n tn I have tried nicorette, patches, hypnosis, chantix, wellbutrin, yoga, acupuncture, cessation classes, therapy and cold turkey to quit smoking. I have smoked for 40 years. When I try to quit I get hysterical, I cry for days and I can't function and I am just overwhelmed with anxiety. I have a very high stress job, I care for an elderly parent in my home, and I am a recovering alcoholic, 20 yrs, so addiction is not new to me.
498385 tn?1362449404 I can hardly breath just starting to smoke for a week but it was getting back to the way I smoked before I tried to quit smoking.. so today is the day and I slapped the patch on.. lol.
326505 tn?1304169225 "Maybe I am different? Maybe I can take a cigarette and not get hooked? Maybe the cigarette will make me so sick I will never want to take a cigarette again? Maybe I was never addicted anyway? Maybe I will just smoke for a little while and quit again when things are better? Maybe, maybe, maybe . . .? Do you ever find that you are asking yourself these questions?

469210 tn?1219188128 Hey everyone. I just joined this forum today. I am a member of another forum and everyone on it takes it very seriously and is very supportive, so I figured this one would be too. As ridiculous as it sounds, I am scared to quit smoking. Why? I don't really know. I guess because it's part of who I am. Do I want to quit? Yes. Do I dream of having healthy lungs and being able to climb a flight of stairs? Absolutely. Has anyone else felt this way? How did you make yourself ready?
Avatar f tn Thanks Jade and Kathyjo! I did it - No smoking around my smoking friends! One even went as far as saying that I am an inspiration to them and if I can do it so can they! Who knows? She may decide to stop as well. So how did I manage to get through the night? I ate - infact I ate ALOT! :-) Hmmm, need to keep a check on food consumption but I would rather gain a few pounds rather than start smoking again. I also had a heart stress today and results were great!
1201937 tn?1265591482 We will be here too. I went through my quit, right here, with Jade59 and I stick around because support works! You can even download a "quit meter" at whyquit and see your progress whenever you want to : ) --- 2y 4m 10:41 smoke-free, 18,792 cigs not smoked, $4,510.
1323047 tn?1279193919 for over 2 years now and I have been going to the gym for 4. I promised myself 2 things when I turned 50, gym and quit smoking and I was able to fufill both, although the smoking didn't happen right away. I can't begin to tell you how different my life is now after my quit and I know that it will only get better!
Avatar n tn Hello All, I was hoping for any comments or suggestions from people that have succesfully quit smoking, I have been smoking for about 20 years. As I am getting older, I have really been trying to keep up with my health and the #1 thing I need to do right now is quit smoking, I have a beautiful wife and 5 year old daughter that I would like to be here for as she grows up, graduates high school, and one day be able to walk her down the aisle.
Avatar f tn Hi Terry, Congrats on day5! I see you're doing so well! :) Suffering some, yes, but we all do/did, so don't let it get you down any. I was looking at your profile and see this is a second, different quit for you. Wow...awesome! And Hard! Let your husband know I quit c/t, it's been 33days, yes I live with my husband and he did Not quit with me and hahaha, we are barely speaking! This last month has really been F.U.N. Fun! Listen to this.
Avatar f tn I have been looking at things to help me quit smoking. Smoking aid sites have given me the first feeling of calm I have had all week from the panic of just THINKING about quitting. I buy cheap smokes and my aid can't cost very much more than my habit. I will starve lol I smoke 1 carton-1 1/2 cartons a week for 20-30 dollars Canadian. I do not have many dollars more than 30 a week to help me quit, but to go cold turkey means I will go insane. I am not kidding.
946140 tn?1246671646 I've tryed many times to QUIT, never did it atleast not for long. Hypnoises, the Patch ( took it off to smoke, then put it on again), gum made me vomit, cold turkey( OMG, not a good idea for me) the med's from Dr. script was none I started again. Now I have COPD and have to QUIT, or things will get worst, will not get better no matter if I do stop but it will help. I know all the pros and cons. I know how hard it is for me but I also know I have to do it.
242912 tn?1660619837 This is what I find the most difficult about staying quit. The anger. Anger makes me want to smoke soooo bad!
Avatar f tn I've gotta quit too...I usually find it easy to quit...I can go for 30 days...and for some mysterious reason start again....I once was at a party in Joisey (can't remember what exit) and drank a lot and partook in some other stuff and I must have smoked 3-4 packs...didn't smoke again for 6 years...never partook in the other stuff again...
Avatar f tn My experience may not be quite accurate as I quit smoking weed as well so it wasn't just nicotine I was dealing with. I am also a poor sleeper and Never sleep through the night, but once I quit smoking, I would say it took maybe 2wks to notice I was sleeping much better than I ever did when I WAS smoking. And that's the SHORT answer LOL.
1580085 tn?1400940838 Hi Sudie, you're in the right place. Big congrats to you on this major life changing decision! You're not alone with the breathing/coughing issues while continuing to smoke - that's what it took for many of us on the forum to quit smoking was getting sick. But let's forget all that and just move forward. : ) I'm so glad you're feeling better - doesn't take long, does it. Have you started a tracker? It will help you stay accountable to yourself.
