Avatar n tn Current thinking on when to take a dog off puppy food has a lot to do with the size of the breed. Larger dogs should come off of puppy food earlier, hence the whole marketing blitz of 'large breed puppy food' that is really just more expensive adult food mostly. I have raised both english bulldogs and pit bulls on a high quality 'all ages' food and everyone had done wonderfully. Canidae & Artiemis make good ones, and I'm sure there are others.
Avatar m tn Hi! My labrador puppy just opened their eyes last Tuesday (14 days old), I saw there was blue and cloudy film covered in their eyes. And I have no any experiences about that, so I used a flashlight to Irradiate one puppy's eye and check if he can see yesterday (19 days old). I am now so worried that the flashlight will harm my puppy's eyes. Could someone with experiences tell me if my puppy's eyes will be harmed by flashlight seriously? thank you!
Avatar n tn Hello i am buying a 6 week old female labrador and was needing to get her puppy shots at 8 weeks. How much should this cost me off hand to get all of her shots taken care of so she doesnt need any til following year??
Avatar f tn The last couple days with my 10 week old labrador retriever puppy have not been good. When we first got her at 6 weeks she was extremely thirsty all the time. That has slowed down until now. Since yesterday she was been drinking so much water and now right after she is peeing almost uncontrollably.. not even squatting some of the times and also sometimes when I dont let her have too much water she tries to pee but only piddles a little bit.
1873696 tn?1405377410 My surviving puppy Charlie is an 8 week old labrador. Today he won't eat or drink and his diarrhea is like slimy brown with small bright red blood clot and clear slimy vomit. He is depressed. No fever (tested with rectal thermometer)I don't know if I should force feed him. I am giving him Pepcid, pedialyte and I got him pepto bismol for his diarrhea.
Avatar n tn That's good advice. By the way, this sounds right for her first shots. I think there are more than one set of puppy shots (she might have to go back for some more) and later on rabies....?check with the vet. By the way....it's great that you got her shots done!
203342 tn?1328737207 My aunt was widowed this year and rescued a little bichon who was used as a breeder in a mill for 8 years. Because she was older and not an outgoing, socialized personality, nobody wanted her. Well, she was exactly what my aunt needed and vice versa. It's beyond wonderful watching both my aunt and her pup return to the land of the living. A good friend of ours just loves Labrador Retrievers, and always thought he had to pay a fortune for a "good" puppy.

Avatar f tn I was showing pictures of my new puppy to one of the little girls at the dance studio where my son takes classes. My puppy is a chocolate lab mix. She told me, "We have a teacher at our school who has trouble with her body, so she has a 'body dog' that looks like that that helps her out." I did tell her that they were usually called "service dogs" or "assistance dogs" but I thought it was cute.
1081694 tn?1256161461 My dad recently adopted a puppy from the Animal Defense League where I am from. She is a female, approximately 7-8 weeks of age. At first she was calm with us and slept all day, I was expecting her to eventually get used to the fact home was here, she and her littermates were found under a shed after a neighbor abandoned them.
Avatar n tn My labrador is 13 and has been taking previcox for his arthritis for about a year, and has been doing really well. Today however, he went to jump up a really small step and his back leg gave way. I have taken him to the vet and they say he has cruciate ligament damage. She suggest we have him out to sleep. She said that because of his athritis surgery is not really an option. Any suggestions please, he is so well in himself I will do anything to prolong his life.
Avatar m tn Do you think your 4-year okd is going to interact with a puppy that much? Are you ready for a puppy and the added work and responsibility? You will have to kid proof your house with a puppy. It might be wise to wait a little longer to bring a puppy into your home. Are you ready for the Vet bills owning a dog can bring? Just a lot to consider other then getting her a puppy. Have you maybe considered a bunny (which can be house trained)?

Avatar m tn Our dog, 9 year old Labrador retriever, Maisy, passed away a few days ago for no known reason. Our family got very attached to Maisy and we are all devastated. Maisy had a lack of appetite recently (for the past couple of weeks) and lost weight. Her bathroom habits were normal and showed no visible discomfort. We are all shocked and upset and want answers.
987762 tn?1671273328 Training a Golden Retriever Lab Mix Puppy Both the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever are very intelligent and quick to learn and the Golden Labrador is no different. Just be sure you focus on basic obedience training from the very beginning because your new puppy’s smarts might get him into trouble. [see pupvana web site] So thats something I didn't know and probably why HoBo is such a calm placid little follow, who likes nothing better than to sleep leaning on a human.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old niece is still grieving over the loss of her childhood dog. A few months before she was born, my sister bought a Labrador Retriever puppy for Casey(my niece)'s half brother. After Casey was born, Sherman (the dog) became more like Casey's dog. She did everything with him. They'd cuddle, he'd sleep in her room, she talked to him, etc. Even after Casey got a puppy of her own, she still always favored Sherman. She referred to him as her best friend.

765775 tn?1366024691 Have you watched a puppy chase his own shadow? Have you seen a puppy blow bubbles in the water bowl? These moments of joy provide buoyancy in times of trouble. Dogs and cats across this nation are in trouble and need our help. As people lose jobs and homes, the most innocent victims are the pets that can no longer be cared for. Animal shelters are busting at the seams. If new homes are not found, then the innocent die.
Avatar n tn hello, i have a 13 yr old labrador, she has a tumor on her chest that needs to be removed. her vet does not feel it is malignant but for precautionary measures would like to send it out for testing. the problem is the price of the surgery with the lab testing will be over $2,000.00. I do not have that kind of money! I love my girl so much and am heartbroken and crying as I write this.
5040494 tn?1362703229 I have some problems with my yellow labrador puppy, he doesn't sleep at night, only if I scoot down near his sleeping area and wait for 30 min. for him to sleep. After an hour he's awake again and super active, that he wakes me up to play. He also prefers to sleep in the morning for awful long hours I guess 5 hours or so. And even if you wake him up or try to play with him, he won't budge and just keep on sleeping. He also has a very small appetite. Please tell me what to do?
1367196 tn?1278065582 My dog is one year old, he is mixed golden r.-labrador. When he was a puppy he didn't cared about storming, or raining, or ringing the bell of the door.... But now (in this present moment) outside is lighting, not raining too much. And my dog is freaking out of the sound of the storm - he is barking like crazy, he don't stop for a second. I gave him drug, not helping!!!!!!! He is barking over and over again!!
