Pumping breast milk for twins

Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk for twins

milk

Avatar f tn You can give formula while pumping to breast feed but like others said it will be hard to keep up milk supply. Make sure to get the right pump, my first wouldnt latch so I had to pump but I lost my milk by 8 weeks and had to supplement with formula the whole time. Turns out I didnt have the right type of pump and didnt do it enough. I thought I would have problems having a baby breastfeed but my son did and I actually found pumping more awkward.
Avatar f tn I had a lot of extra milk so when she was about 1 month old I started pumping extra milk and freezing it for when I returned to work. I went back to work when she was 5 months old and continued to pump every day. (I had to travel once a month usually for 3-4 days at a time so it was good to have a surplus of milk in the freezer (at one point we had an entire little freezer full of milk!
Avatar f tn My boobs got so engourged when i had my son bc my nurse said i had milk for twins and getting the lumps out was a very painful process. I was thinking if i started before baby comes instead of when she comes it could help a lot. Has anyone ever done this?
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks and have already started leaking milk. Is it ok if I use an electric breast pump before I have the baby and freeze the milk so I'm ahead when she comes?
1097036 tn?1325018347 I was only able to breast feed for 4 months, my guys were such oinkers they s*cked me dry. lol. What I did was during one feeding I'd feed one boy while the other got a bottle (which I pumped as well) and would switch the next feeding. But like I said at 4 months we had to go to formula because my poor tata's dried up. My boys are still oinkers. I don't know how they're so skinny. :o/ The kids eat more than I do. lol. Sometimes more than their father.
Avatar f tn That's the same question I have lol. I had to pump with my first baby. I'm due May and I plan on breastfeeding this baby as well. But I never froze my milk and didn't know how long the milk is good for. I know to defrost the milk you need to have it in some hot water. Never microwave.
Avatar f tn Yes, it was easier for me to tandem feed (put them to breast at the same time) You can look up different positions that will fit you all. Breastfeedingthem one at a time waste a lot of time. Also, tandem feeding is better for milk production. Congratulations!!
Avatar f tn How long can you freeze breast milk? I'm having twins and plan on pumping more than actually having them feed off my actual breast just so my husband and mom can help feed them as well. I'd like to make my own baby food and know that breast milk can be used in some foods. So, how long can you freeze breast milk for? Thanks ladies! And congrats!
14975014 tn?1437675913 They need that for a few days and when your real milk comes in, your baby is ready for it. You have to remember that your milk is made exactly for the baby, pumping before hand messes all that up and isn't good for either of you.
Avatar f tn I would not recommend pumping before your milk supply comes after the baby is born it could cause you to go into preterm labor. I'm having my second and after my first I never stopped lactating even when I stopped breastfeeding. I still would leak collosum (don't know if that is spelled right) especially when he would cry.
Avatar f tn When do breast milk starts coming out the breast I had my baby on the 29th no milk still
8526246 tn?1405601876 How long after pumping is breast milk good for without refrigerating or do I have to refrigerate right away? I want to pump and feed without having to refrigerate and thaw but not sure if its not ok to do so.
Avatar f tn Pumping doesn't stimulate milk production like natural breastfeeding does. Try hand stimylating with pumping every hour, using warm rags around your breast to make the let down reflex easier, and eating certain foods and even some teas can help the body produce milk.
7845638 tn?1395841467 That sounds great mommikat breastfeeding at night would work for me I read on this blog that milk does come in at the wee hours pumping seems like it's going to be a lot of work but I'm determined to make sure I don't have to resort to formula
Avatar n tn I had my baby 5 days ago and im pumping and i only get a half an ounce each breast if that.. Will my breast supply increase??. I want to produce more milk what do i do?
Avatar n tn I had my baby 2 days ago and I have not produce any breast milk is there anything that I can do to get it started is it normal because this is not my first child and with my other two my breast milk came within the day
3588173 tn?1357317184 Alright looks like I will be setting a couple alarms during the night to pump.
1149221 tn?1304827966 Is anyone else pumping and really getting tired of it? After the hospital made him have a bottle he would never take the breast so I have to pump. I am really getting tired of it. I just feel guilty if he has to have formula all the time (he gets it 2-3 times a day) plus pumping is free. I just find it so hard to take 30 minutes every 3 hours to pump. By the time I'm done both my boys are upset and I have to calm them both down. I just don't know what to do.
7058746 tn?1393435420 I had my baby last week 31weeks 5 days and started pumping and I get alot of milk and I just freeze take it to.
3129009 tn?1344190733 Yes. You need to pump at least every three to four hours at night or you won't have enough milk for your babies. Breastfeeding is supply and demand, if you aren't demanding, your breasts won't supply. My son was in the nicu for a week and I remember how exhausted I was. He's seven weeks old now and still exclusively breastfed. Good luck!
1205562 tn?1554747006 I recently heard that drinking one dark beer a day can really help increase your milk supply because of the yeast in the beer. I was skeptical so I researched it a little. And turns out, that yes, it's true!! Beer is second to napping for increasing milk supply!!! So for those of you who like a dark beer... drink up!! :-) My friend has twins and all the nurses told her to drink a beer every day for increased milk supply. Just a bit of information that I thought I'd share.
Avatar f tn First choice I would like to be able to breast feed, its important for the baby to have the antibodies that are in that first milk so either breast feeding or pumping would be excellent. Also it helps you get super trim if you breast feed.
689528 tn?1364135841 When I pumped to store milk for work I pumped once a day for about 3 or 4 days then I moved to twice a day. After about 8 or 9 days we started feeding one or two bottles at once to make sure he would take things for work. Just make sure when your son gets a bottle you don't give it to him, and don't give him more than one or two at once other wise you might start to notice issues with BF'ing.
Avatar f tn I did both on my 1st so if I needed a nap or just popped to the shops and left him with his dad he had always had milk there.
615752 tn?1361867986 I am pro-breastfeeding, I breastfed my daughter for almost 2 years. The WHO (World Health Organisation) recommends breast milk for the first 6 months, and to breastfeed for 2 years. I ope I can breastfeed for at least a year with this baby.
