Pumping breast milk before birth

Common Questions and Answers about Pumping breast milk before birth

milk

Avatar f tn Its not safe to. If you pump prior to your milk coming in (before birth) you can cause mastitis, which means your breasts will stop producing milk and you cannot ever breast feed again. It happened to bd's sister. She didnt listen to the doc and pumped colostrum. Baby got enough from an actual latch feed two times before her breasts became lumpy and she was diagnosed with mastitis.
Avatar f tn Your body will change the amount of milk produced by what your baby eats. Pumping before I think would get your body use to feeding that is not your babies schedule or needs.
14975014 tn?1437675913 They need that for a few days and when your real milk comes in, your baby is ready for it. You have to remember that your milk is made exactly for the baby, pumping before hand messes all that up and isn't good for either of you.
7845638 tn?1395841467 I thought some women have their milk come in even before the baby gets there???? I guess thats what happened to me.
2032629 tn?1329618488 hey, have you tried skin to skin breast feeding instead of pumping for a little bit. by pumping you are encouraging more milk and at a rate that the baby doesn't control itself. i think i would defer this question to the breast feeding forum here. they are full of information and great tips. perhaps one of the ladies there will be more helpful.
Avatar f tn Has anyone expressed and frozen colustrum before? I want to start pumping to donate breast milk for my friend's twins who are in the NICU. I'm due in 3 weeks but they need it now. I want to give my baby my colustrum to help her immune system get the best start possible since we live abroad in a place that has tropical diseases, so I'm wondering if anyone has done this.
Avatar f tn Agree with the above, the lactation specialist told me not to try pumping before birth. It can cause you complications later, especially if it's your first. Plus it's SO MUCH easier after baby comes; your body knows. I started pumping 4 days after birth.
Avatar f tn Baby needs the colostrum first which you obviously pumped out if you are getting that much milk.
Avatar f tn I was told to pump my breasts to jump start labor. I am a ftm. I am worried because I heard that your milk won't come on correctly if you pump before the baby is born. Can anyone who has pumped before birth tell me their experience? I really would love to breast feed and I don't want to mess anything up.
Avatar f tn re just wanting to pump they will have you start trying to pump fairly soon after birth. It would help your milk supply to try to breast feed until your milk fully comes in but its a personal choice so its your decision!
Avatar f tn but is it too early to start pumping at 4 months
10052319 tn?1408978714 Ok so for my first baby i produced alot of breast milk as soon after i gave birth to my baby girl she latched on n she would be able to get full with just my breasts but unfortunetly my school didnt let me breastfeed because i would be getting out of classes so i only did it for 1 or 2 months and for my second baby it took almost 1 day after giving birth to have my breast milk flow out which caused me to give formula to her making her like the bottle way more then my breast so 1 month was it
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever pumped your milk before having baby? My boobs got so engourged when i had my son bc my nurse said i had milk for twins and getting the lumps out was a very painful process. I was thinking if i started before baby comes instead of when she comes it could help a lot. Has anyone ever done this?
Avatar f tn Your breast milk doesn't come in until after baby is born. It usually takes up to 72 hours. The reason that is the only time it happens because of.the hormone surge that happens after the placenta is delivered. It's not possible for it to be in now. You can leak a lot of colostrum beforehand but it's not milk.
Avatar f tn I got the hang of it, and only pump 4 times a day (I started pumping at 7 weeks, right before I went back to work), my milk stash is definitely built up, and my supply is leveled out. Trust me mama, your body and your breast know exactly what they'll need to do!
Avatar f tn When does your milk come in? I'm 40 weeks today FTM and I tried using my breast pump a few days ago for about 30 min and NOTHING came out...is this normal or is there something I can take to help??!!
Avatar f tn I would not recommend pumping before your milk supply comes after the baby is born it could cause you to go into preterm labor. I'm having my second and after my first I never stopped lactating even when I stopped breastfeeding. I still would leak collosum (don't know if that is spelled right) especially when he would cry.
Avatar f tn s just as smart and independent as a breast fed baby. But, if I pump milk for this baby, does that relieve the pain in the breasts after birth? I'm really not looking forward to it.
Avatar n tn Nothing u can do before, but you just have to nurse, or pump a lot. Nurse on demand or if pumping pump every 2 hrs for 20 minutes. U have to create a demand for milk to produce milk. If u go too long between feeding or pumping your body thinks you don't need as much any more and stops producing. Once your supply is established u can pump every 3 or 4 hours, but it takes awhile. U have to mimic how often a baby would want to nurse. I pumped exclusively for 1 yr and 4 months.
2169899 tn?1354674056 im so frustrated cus i realy wanted to BF her, now my breAst are full and painful any ideas ladies in how to express milk or get her to want it again
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks and have already started leaking milk. Is it ok if I use an electric breast pump before I have the baby and freeze the milk so I'm ahead when she comes?
Avatar f tn d really like to have my daughter breastfeed and have been pumping semi regularly to keep milk flow...is her being fussy before latching normal crying even? Should I keep trying or does she really not like to breastfeed? Help please.
Avatar f tn You can give formula while pumping to breast feed but like others said it will be hard to keep up milk supply. Make sure to get the right pump, my first wouldnt latch so I had to pump but I lost my milk by 8 weeks and had to supplement with formula the whole time. Turns out I didnt have the right type of pump and didnt do it enough. I thought I would have problems having a baby breastfeed but my son did and I actually found pumping more awkward.
