Bipolar disorder distinguishing feature from borderline personality disorder is it involves mania or hypomania or mixed states of mania and depression. 1450085 tn?1298941702 I know a couple of people that have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and some of them do suffer from anxiety/depression. However I would not self diagnose myself if I were you. If you are not currently seeing a psychatrist I would suggest that you consider seeing one. You need to get to the bottom of what is causing your anxiety and a therapist can help you do that. You can overcome anxiety. Make sure you are eating right, getting enough sleep and exercise.
1618236 tn?1408072214 I have written to you earlier on my Borderline Personality disorder and you wrote back but am not following you on what you said : One formulation of borderline personality disorder is that it involves a deficit in the "self soothing" function - the ability to make oneself feel OK/safe. Hence the symptoms of heightened sensitivity, anxiety, and irritability.
1192491 tn?1265031829 I agree with Xila31 because I am diagnosed with bipolar, ptsd, anxiety disorder etc, but I know that I am also borderline because I meet all the requirements in the DSM4.. and my pdoc said I probably am by just meeting with me. And yes there is no meds for it just therapy and learning boundaries etc..I think it comes from some significant incident or incidents while we were forming our self esteem and personality etc but that is just my opinion.
Avatar f tn Borderline personality disorder is different from bipolar disorder in one major way. Borderline personality disorder is always there. "Borderline personality disorder is a condition in which people have long-term patterns of unstable or turbulent emotions, such as feelings about themselves and others. These inner experiences often cause them to take impulsive actions and have chaotic relationships." taken from PubMed.
Avatar n tn If I have been diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder, whom shall I see?
Avatar n tn I strongly recommend that you try not to get lost in the jungle of the jargon of our profession. the person you described had a paranoid psychotic episode, and is now in remission, with a paranoid personality. You don't have to invoke the schizophrenic idea to fit the facts of this case.....
429432 tn?1343594190 In psychiatry, borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder characterised by extreme 'black and white' thinking, mood swings, emotional reasoning, disrupted relationships and difficulty in functioning in a way society accepts as normal. Avatar f tn I meant borderline personality disorder and not bipolar disorder. I guess that there is some overlap between the two disorders. I have found depression and anxiety to be both draining. I just wondered if borderline personality disorder because of: -prospective seems to change /unstable sense of self or lack of identity. Could have to do with the black and white nature in which some people tend to view themselves and the world.
915369 tn?1355314810 I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features. I was originally thought to have bipolar disorder and psychosis NOS but to be quite honest I'd prefer the diagnosis of borderline seeing as this way I don't need to take medication.
Avatar n tn Yes from what you describe he probably does have ocd but compulsive lying to the point where a person believes it themselves is much more than that. It can be part of a personality disorder and is potentially psychotic. Someone can have ocd as well. If he has a family history of depression and bipolar he could have that. Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn There are many different types of personality disorders. My mom has borderline personality disorder. The symptoms that she possesses are: Impulsive and risky behavior , unstable mood, and fear of being alone. Were you recently diagnosed with one?
Avatar n tn Borderline personality disorder is not a result of brain injury. It is considered a personality disorder. He would have to have been diagnosed with BPD before getting the concusions to be considered true BPD. You will get more and better information from looking up Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which is the result of concussions and can look and feel a lot like BPD or bipolar disorder depending on the area of the brain affected. There are medication that help some people.
Avatar f tn recurrent major depressive disorder, schizo-affective disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, avoidance disorder. I have had all of these disorders except schizophrenia at one time or another in the last seven decades. Some of these disorders were officially diagnosed by a psychiatrist and some were not. 1.12.
Avatar m tn i have taking tests on the computer to see what they would say and there are like 10 different disorders that pop up, shizoid personality disorder, schizotypal, dependent, avoidant, narcissistic, histrionic, anti social and paranoid. alot of these are so similiar tho that i dont know which one i could have. i do have problems with being around people. id rather be alone that be around a crowd. i do avoid people and i feel uncomfortable around people i dont know.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms seem to point to Borderline Personality Disorder or Antisocial Disorder coinciding with exponential Anxiety/panic attacks. You should see to an appointment with a medical professional—be it a psychiatrist, neurologist, or even a general practitioner—before assuming any disorder is in place, though.
944643 tn?1418214422 I was just reading about Borderline Personality Disorder, and this disorder explains me so perfectly...I could be the poster child for it! Now u guys know I haven't gotten a BP dx yet, so I'm not 100% sure I have it, but pretty sure I have type 2 BP, rapid cycling. Is there a possibility I could have BOTH disorders? Or is it more likely I would only have one of them? I'm just wondering ur opinions cuz once I read about the BPD I was shocked!
1756969 tn?1332437163 for bipolar but unfortunately not for borderline, but if you google DSM borderline personality disorder a few sites come up and give you definitions. One of the main differences between the two is moods for Borderline last hours/ maybe a day but for typical bipolar last days to weeks. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Borderline personality disorder. Well, one doctor says Borderline, another will say Bipolar, they dont know I guess. I just know that nobody will accept me as their patient. I have cutting issues & suicidal thoughts that are strong. I am not in treatment now...mainly because doctors either drop me, hospitalize me involuntarily, or refer me. Florida isn't great for mental health treatment (in my experience). Anyway, I have been told I have delusions.
Avatar f tn My Cardiologist and 3 Drs at the hospital did extensive research and were unable to find any suitable medication for me, to assist in the treatment of my depression - I have since had 3 seperate admissions to the psych unit at the hospital - apparently I have Borderline Personality Disorder (which I was diagnosed with 15 years ago and I have been told it is like alcoholism - it is always there) alongside the depression and am suffering through grief at the passing away recently of my mother.
Avatar f tn Although it is possible to have major depression and borderline personality disorder (as jdtm mentioned). Perhaps you could do a google search of borderline personality disorder and see if you think it is similar to your friend.
