Avatar n tn Can paranoid personality disorder develop into paranoid schizophrenia?A person from my family went undiagnosed for many years despite strange behavior, only when she had a psychotic episode did she allow us to take her to a doctor and was diagnosed with paranoid disorder. The symptoms fit her "usual" symptoms (i.e. those she's had for years) - relatively coherent delusions of being disliked, plotted against, of her flat being bugged, someone stealing things when she's out.
Avatar f tn 14 years old is indeed young but it might be psychotic episodes or something somehow leading to bi-polarity as it could be and it is very likely, that is is schizo but at this age who knows if she's just shizotypal or schizoid, well you wanna know if it's a personality disorder or a psychotic disorder. In females real psychotic disorders tend to appear later than in men, who are starting to get symptoms between adolescence and early adulthood.
Avatar n tn Yes from what you describe he probably does have ocd but compulsive lying to the point where a person believes it themselves is much more than that. It can be part of a personality disorder and is potentially psychotic. Someone can have ocd as well. If he has a family history of depression and bipolar he could have that. Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis.
Avatar m tn ve been diagnosed with -social personality disorder, -Paranoid anxiety disorder, - bipolar. Im always depressed or agressive. Im on meds, zolaf, risperdol, valproic acid, and ativans?
1419416 tn?1283020018 Both can involve psychotic states. Bipolar disorder distinguishing feature from borderline personality disorder is it involves mania or hypomania or mixed states of mania and depression. A manic person is probably easy to spot if you are educated in these matters because they appear very sped up with things such as pressured, rapid talking or shopping sprees when they don't have the money.
Avatar f tn Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a bipolar disorder or a depressive disorder with psychotic features, or another psychotic disorder and is not attributable to the physiological effects of another medical condition.

Avatar f tn It has only happened when I would get upset. Can someone tell me if this could mean I have some kind of personality disorder or if I just have a sever anger issue?
Avatar n tn If I have been diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder, whom shall I see?
915369 tn?1355314810 I was seeing a psychiatrist for a few years but she stopped seeing me after diagnosing me with borderline personality disorder. She also diagnosed me with dysthymia, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive features. I was originally thought to have bipolar disorder and psychosis NOS but to be quite honest I'd prefer the diagnosis of borderline seeing as this way I don't need to take medication.
Avatar n tn Can depression change someone's personality? I can't recognise my mother and I don't know what to do and how to take it. She is now 63 years old and she was diagnosed with a depression about to 10 years ago. She was extremly down at the time, used to cry a lot and it was clear that hse was very unhappy wiith her life. She started on a medication and things were more or less stable till 5 years ago when her own mother died.
Avatar f tn recurrent major depressive disorder, schizo-affective disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, avoidance disorder. I have had all of these disorders except schizophrenia at one time or another in the last seven decades. Some of these disorders were officially diagnosed by a psychiatrist and some were not. 1.12.
741315 tn?1232458427 my inital diagnoses was did (disociative personality disorder). I am not sure what is exactly wrong with me and i am convinced that my doctors are not completely sure either. i currently take: * lamictal *citalopram *xanex *risperdone *ambien... its still hard to focus but its a different impedement on the meds its not the same kind of distraction or process. i want to stop taking them but i know how bad things are when i am not on them. i do not know what i shoudl do.
Avatar m tn They could be potentially be psychotic though only a psychiatrist can provide a diagnosis but there are many more common possibilities than dissociative identity disorder (the correct name for multiple personality disorder) and all very treatable. Best to speak to someone soon if you feel out of control regardless.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
Avatar m tn Your symptoms are probably a part of the psychotic disorder you suffer from. It is unlikely to be the side effect of medication, as any side effect of medication would stop soon after stopping the medication. It is important to get a complete psychiatric assessment to evaluate what could be wrong. Also, get liver and kidney function assessed because at times rugs affect liver and kidney function and this can also cause confusion and delirium. Take care!
Avatar m tn this might be Schizoaffective combining SZ + Bipolar disorders I am not a professional I help with my experiences and how I coped with it try support groups and the pills of course anti psychotics anti depressants meds for anxiety + panic attacks anxiety attacks psychotic disorder mood disorder hope this helps
Avatar n tn t take those online tests too seriously, once me and a few friends took a do you have a personality disorder? test, and guess what - we all had some kind of personality disorder. I think mine came up schizotypal, and no I diddn't lose any sleep over it! :) On a more serious note, if you are experiencing symptoms you are worried about ask your pdoc, get assessed by a person not a pc.
Avatar f tn The reality is most of this behaviour does not on the face of it sound bipolar - it does sound like a personality disorder or sociopathic personality. Marijuana use long term can cause mental illness and latent mental illnesses such as schzophrenia to come out - its a dangerous drug despite the efforts of many to promote it as a toy.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between Bipolar disorder with psychotic features and Schizoaffective disorder? And which one sounds closest to what i am experiencing, if it's possible to answer?
Avatar f tn There are many different types of personality disorders. My mom has borderline personality disorder. The symptoms that she possesses are: Impulsive and risky behavior , unstable mood, and fear of being alone. Were you recently diagnosed with one?
1351968 tn?1278205300 Well there is a gradation between bipolar and schizophrenia such as bipolar with psychotic features (where a person experiences psychotic symptoms specifically during moodswings) and schizoaffective disorder, as was mentioned as I have where if untreated a person experiences psychotic symptoms at all times. Bipolar in some people can worsen over a life time, certainly if untreated and there are many subtypes of bipolar, including bipolar with psychotic features.
