Prozac with buspar

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac with buspar

prozac

Avatar f tn I'm not too familiR with buspar but I'm sure your doctor is correct. Fair warning about Prozac it can take 3-8 weeks for it take full effect, it is what I am currently on. I personally like it as I have no side effects and have been on and off it for years. (On for the most part).
Avatar m tn According to my psych, Buspar works in conjuction with other anti-depressants. I was taking Prozac and Buspar; now Zoloft and Buspar, but I will ask my psych about it.

709686 tn?1277432159 I have read about Buspar on several websites and they all list the typical side effects. Dizzy, lightheaded, headache & insomnia. Has anyone here ever taken Buspar and if so would you please tell me the good, bad & ugly of this med. I realize we are all different and react differently but it makes it a little easier to hear it from a real person.
Avatar m tn It is not known to treat OCD. However, it is possible to augment it with an SSRI such as Prozac (Fluoxetine). If you want to retain benefit from your SSRI, you may not have to give it up. Talk to your doctor about adding Wellbutrin as an augmentation agent. Wellbutrin is not know to cause sexual dysfunction. In fact, it may enhance sexual function. It is used by some SSRI users to counteract the sexual side effects of that medication.
869686 tn?1241110241 t that known for treating OCD or GAD, but it does seem to have fewer problems quitting it. But why combine it with Zoloft when both target the same neurotransmitter? Buspar probably does nothing.
2185074 tn?1340264732 I am so depressed. I just got back from Afghanistan and my wife moved out right a way. I don't understand. I came home and she said that she couldn't handle my depression along with my PTSD. I only been home for a month. I feel as if I am losing everything. I am not violent with my wife. She is afraid of what she has heard about some of the guys that I deployed with. I am on so much medication. I take Lithium 100mg 3x's a day, Prozac, Xanax 1mg PRN. Up to 4x a day.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist put me in prozac and buspar. Are these two good together? Do they have interactions? Has anyone else taken these together?
543959 tn?1301315419 I really would consider switching. Many folks don't respond to that class of drugs, some get more anxiety from it, me being one of those people. I was switched over to a mood stabilizer which has dramatically reduced my depression to almost nothing, and I have refractory(hard to treat) depression. I only saw a mild difference with the buspar, though what I liked was that it wasn't a tranq, so it doesn't cause sleepiness. I do suggest if you don't have a psychiatrist to get one.
Avatar n tn I take Xanax when needed and I have also been on Buspar for over a month. I saw changes with Buspar after a couple weeks, but just recently...I started having more attacks and I don't know if it is working or not. Buspar is non-habit forming (or so I have read) but the Xanax does wonders when I can't deal with an attack. Ativan was given to me in the hospital for my first attack and it made me feel very strange...depressed, too.
Avatar f tn so recently my biggest problem has been my EXTREME anxiety that has gone left hanging in the air after ive been taking 100 mgs of wellbutrin twice a day. ive always been taking ssri's so in a way they kinda both helped me with the depression/anxiety thing in general. it wasnt until a couple months after being on wellbutrin that i found out that it has no connection to help with anxiety & it is simply used for severe depression.
1254306 tn?1270992213 5 months later her doctor tried her on 10 mg of Prozac again, it started with the paranoia, so we discontinued. He then put her on Clonazepam .5mg once at night. She seemed to do ok. 2 months into it, her doctor tried her on Buspar 7.5mg 2x per day, increasing by 5mg once a day until 15mg 2x a day. We only made it to 15mg once per day with 10mg in the afternoon. She started with the paranoia and we went back to the orginial dosing of 7.5 mg twice a day.
977053 tn?1248490023 While all the meds you have mentioned are mainly used to treat depression, they also are known to help with anxiety/panic states as well. Prozac is better known to help with PTSD. But if your anxiety is not being controlled with these meds, it's time to speak with your doctor about this. Whether he/she will switch you to yet another SSRI or add an adjunct antianxiety med will be up to the two of you.
Avatar n tn Its these weird sensations that I get that drives me crazy, thats the reason for the buspar. About 5 years ago I starting taking Prozac, I had these same feelings for about the first 2 weeks, then they went away, but would pop up sometimes later. The doc said that sometimes when you take the Prozac you will have more anxiety the first few weeks, that is why I kinda think that is what my problem is, because the first few weeks symtpoms were the same as before the Prozac just worse.
1166291 tn?1263103120 Hi hon, I"m sorry you're feeling yucky. But if your addiction was pain meds and you still are feeling w/ds after over three month, I think it's time to look into the Buspar. From what I know about Buspar, that is given for an anti-depressant or supposedly anti anixtey, but it can cause anxiety as well. Esp if you are more a high anxiety person and not as much of a depressed person. Maybe you need something else...try prozac.
Avatar f tn Thanks! Feeling better. My N.P.let me know I should not be wiening Celexa and take prozac while wiening. I am now just on Prozac and Buspar. Feeling ok. Just tired and jittery at times. I can't wait until this Prozac kicks in.
Avatar f tn ANY one if you are stopping effexor do not do it with out Prozac on board. The shelf like of prozac is longer than effexor. Once off of effexor then you can wean off of prozac. It is a very easy med to wean without side effects. Get your life back.
Avatar f tn I switched from Prozac to Pristiq when my Prozac pooped out on me after 20 years. I have OCD with panic disorder and was in a bad way with horrible panic and anxiety. The Pristiq worked well but slow. My Doc raised my doses in 50 ml increments until I got up to 200 ml. I felt better little bits at a time but it really kicked in at 200 ml. It goes slow but it does work. Don't give up on it too soon. Don't be afraid to go up in dosage a little bit at a time.
Avatar f tn I take Buspar, but it is along with Wellbutrin (I'm told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar f tn I'm taking Prozac 30 mg and I've been prescribed Buspirone 15 mg for anxiety. I'm super paranoid about medication in general, but I also have vistaril 50 mg for anxiety. I've scared myself silly looking up medicine interactions. The chance of getting seratonin syndrome is absolutely horrifying to me. How rare is it? Should I cut the buspirone in half? Or should I just take the vistaril and forget the buspirone all together?
Avatar f tn prozac/buspar/lithium/blah blah blah/SS/etc., ect., etc. take good care!
Avatar f tn t do these meds with a nurse practitioner, for goodness sake. You only do this with an experienced psychiatrist you trust. That's a lot of medication and potential interactions, and these meds are hard to start and hard to quit. And most importantly, if you're doing great, why do you want another drug? None of them completely rid one of the problem. What you want now is therapy so you can get to the bottom of this and solve this problem, not keep looking for some magic pill.
2065348 tn?1331075207 I felt dizzy, extremely tired, irritable, sad, and just generally not well when I came off Prozac, with headaches and sharp stabbing pains in my feet and hands.I even weaned off slowly like the doctor said and STILL had those symptoms. It took about 3-4 months before they stopped completely. It's possible between quitting the Prozac and starting the Buspar that it is making you feel worse...Your body needs more time to adjust to all the change.
709686 tn?1277432159 I don't know much about Buspar but I can wish you good luck. I really don't think there's much in the world tougher to go thru than anxiety and depression.
1198664 tn?1368647812 I tryed to submit a longer answer just a while ago, and it didn't post so this will be short. I took buspar for years along with my prozac to increase its potentcy. It worked great for that and I never did have any problems with it. I know three or four other people that took it for the same reason, to increase effect of antidepressants and they all had good results with it. It is real cheep and as far as I know it dosn't have many problems associated with it.
277836 tn?1359666174 Did any of your doctors (especially the neurologist) ever discuss the possibility with you that the Buspar may have caused one or more of the symptoms of which you're complaining? I'm not a doctor, and I obviously can't be certain, but that's the one thing I would recommend exploring in addition to therapy for your anxiety (more on that in a moment).
