Prozac long term effects

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac long term effects

prozac

Avatar n tn There is no good body of knowledge about the long term effects....if he were just starting the medication, I would think it might be a side effect, but if he has been using for twenty years, then probably not, but can't say that for sure...the way to find out is ask the doctor to take him off of prozac and see if his symptoms subside...should be done carefully and slowly over a 5 week period.......
Avatar f tn Nobody really knows long-term effects there are (if any) with antidepressants. However, Prozac is the oldest SSRI out there, and people have been on it 20+ years, with no serious long-term effects reported yet. In generally, the SSRI antidepressants appear to be very safe. Though their long-term effects have not been adequately studied. Being on Prozac for 2-3 years should have no lasting detrimental effects. I was on Prozac for 3 years, and I'm now on Lexapro for 2 years.
Avatar f tn Oh, and I wanted to also add, Prozac has been on the market a long time now. If there were a lot of problems with it's long term users we'd know by now. We have seen it with other meds. So another reason not to let this be a concern to you. Peace.
Avatar f tn I personally do not recommend the use of any antidepressants before trying holistic therapies. Speaking from experience, these medications come with side effects that can last long term and eventually contribute to more problems than you started with. However if this is for fibromyalgia or other physical ailments then long term use is sometimes necessary.
Avatar m tn Chemically, the fluoxetine hydrochloride (prozac is the original trademarked term but the patent's expired so it can be made generically) ought to be identical, regardless of its makers' labelling, colouring, packaging (as a tablet or capsule). Prozac has been generic for a very long time, there are several companies now making generic versions. Precisely which were your before and after brands of generic prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn First of all, taking a benzo for sleep purposes isn't the best idea -- it's an addictive drug and they can stop working, making your insomnia worse. It's best to find a better long-term solution if you can. Prozac is a more stimulating antidepressant for many people, so that probably explains the sleeping problem. This might go away as side effects happen before effects do, or it might not.
Avatar m tn A working dosage level often needs to be gradually worked up to so our bodies can adapt to such harsh chemicals, and interim side effects may go away as we adapt. Long term use may lead to a fresh side effect appearing at some point (so, those need to be watched out for). Meanwhile anxiety can create its own symptoms which can confuse matters in assessing a new med's impact and safety. May I message you with a selection of links to my recent posts about anxiety coping tips?
Avatar m tn I just wanted to get feedback on the best long-term SSRI-type drugs (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, etc.) you all might have tried. Do they ever work at all? I suffer from stress-related generalized anxiety and occasional panic attacks. This has also, I believe, helped to increase my typical blood pressure readings to above normal (very healthy 28-year-old, otherwise. I work out, am at healthy weight, etc.).
7163794 tn?1457366813 myself to get up? Is this in my head, or is it possible there are long term effects to pain meds and suboxone use? Could it just be me? Has anyone else felt this?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
Avatar n tn What are the long term effects? Now that the issue is resolved. what can we do to head off any long term problems from this?
Avatar m tn s dopamine structure and that i will never be happy again or feel as good as before i began the drug use. can anybody tell me what some of the long-term effects maybe and weather i will be able to fully recover. Did i permantely damage my brain's structure? Please, i need some medical information on this. I have been looking on the internet but not much exists.
Avatar n tn i dont know if these are possible long term effects of the drugs or something else. everyone keeps saying im having anxiety attacks but these feelings come when i am calm and seem very serious. if anyone has any advice on whats going on ,whether drug related or not,, or any advice on good doctors to go to PLEASE let me know immediatly.
Avatar f tn BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.
Avatar m tn They're both in the same class of drugs, and pretty much treat the same symptoms. Paxil is a newer medication, and if the dosage isn't working you may need to have your doctor increase it. Prozac is an old drug and I think the newer ones come with fewer side effects. It's best to discuss this with your doctor since he is aware of what will best suit your needs.
2193833 tn?1339411302 I respectfully disagree with you. When an anxiolytic, like Xanax, or Ativan is used as a rescue med ("as needed') with an SSRI, it can be extremely helpful. Especially when a person is trying to adjust to the meds and may be having some side effects. When I started on Zoloft a long time ago, I was still having several massive panic attacks daily. I needed something to help me get through that.
Avatar f tn I am also a big proponent of medications like Prozac as long as you combine this with talk therapy to gain long term knowledge about this. When i first started on an SSRI, I had a few side effects as well but after a few weeks they mostly subsided as well. I always stress patience when dealing with medication. Just keep in communication with your prescribing doctor to express your concerns and questions...keep us posted!
Avatar m tn I was on imipramine for four years, when it stopped working. It didn't get rid of my old phobias, but it stopped me from getting new ones. The good thing about the old meds, if you can handle the side effects, is they've been around a long time and so we know better what they do to people than we do with the newer ones. And I believe studies pretty much show they work about the same percentage of the time as ssris and other meds, though none have been studied for long-term use.
Avatar n tn Well let's start for what the diagnosis is. You might think its bipolar but a psychiatrist could tell more. If you are concerned and think your son has been wrongly diagnosed and is over medicated seek a second opinion. Now let's go through the medications. First of all that's a lot of medications to begin with especially for a child and even standard psychiatry has concerns about use of antipsychotics in children due to the risk of tardive dyskinesia and diabetes.
