prozac and lithium

Stopped that went back to prozac for the last 1 1/2 months or so. She has just started showing strong signs again of manic and obsesive behavior. Dr.s thinking prozac has backfired. She's been very agitated, angry, compulsive, crying, not knowing what's wrong or why she feels like she does. Even wanting to die. Four days ago took her to ER for eval. they wouldn't touch her med. cause they didn't prescribe.

Hi, I am taking 60mg Prozac in the morning (past 4 weeks) and then 100mg Lithium (down from 200) with .5mg Clonazepam at bedtime for depression. Since upping the prozac from the original 20 I find that i feel quite nausious in the mornings often with the need to pass loose motions 3 or 4 times. It does fade a bit during the day but I'm not sure what may be causing this. Any ideas?

I was diagnosed with BP II with more noticeable depression as well. I'm actually on a combo of Wellbutrin/Abilfy and it's the PERFECT combo for me. I was on lamictal and it made me crazy and had awful side effects. I've never taken Prozac or Lithium, as I've found a combo that works for me. I take 250mg Wellbutrin twice a day and 15mg of Abilify. I also take an anti-anxiety med and sleeping pills as needed.

I really had no other side effects from either med. Lithium is more for mania and prozac for depression. I take a Lithium/Wellbutrin combo and it is awsome for me. Controls both sides pretty darn good! It is really trial and error with any med, it might or might not effect your libido. Just have to try and see. If it does, switch again! I know tegretol kills it too. So you might do better on Lithium or Prozac.

I am kind of the exception because I am medication resistant and my depression and anxiety is a tough nut to crack. I am currently on a Pristiq, Lamictal and Lithium combination and it seems to be working ok, but the add on of the Lamictal and lithium is only in it's second week so I should know more later on it's effectivness. Are you disagnosed as Bi-polar 1? I am diagnosed as Bi-polar (NOS) Not Otherwise specified.

At last I became suicidal and was hospitalised. Instead of lithium I am now on sodium valproate, lamictal, venlor in stead of prozac. I'm slowly recovering. The side effects were worse than the bipolar itself!

The doctor started her on Lithium at the same time we were weening her. The Lithium must be taken with food and like prozac, it causes nausea in my child. She was on 1 pill 300 mg in the evening for a week. Then it was increased to 2 pills at the same time the effexor was decreased to 75 mg. This lasted a week. Then, we dropped the Lithium back to 1 pill because of the extreme nausea lately.

I am living proof. I am thyroidless now and bi polar. Lithium if not monitered closely is toxic and there are many other meds that can work just.as well. I for one take celexa and zyprexa . Bi polars should really be on a mood stabilizer as well as an anti depressant. One with out the other will tip you in the opposite direction and the key to managing bi polar is to be stable. I personally hated being on the lithium.

Hi I used to be on lithium, but it wasn't right for me. The combination of the lithium and prozac just wasn't a great mix for me. I did experience a little weight gain, but it was due to fluid retention. Lithium is a salt based drug. My advice would be not to use extra salt in your diet while you're on lithium, and try to drink water, herbal teas, or at a pinch black coffee rather thank milky or sugary drinks that will encourage weight gain.

hey, i have rapid cycling bipolar and am on a lot of medication, prozac, lithium, lamictal, seroquel. i have put on a lot of weight since going on these meds, ive practically doubled in size! im coming off prozac and intend to come off anything except lithium. Im afraid that i will have severe mood swings when i do this but i need to get my life back, i sleep most of the day because of fatigue and i need to lose weight! any advice please? be well.

Hi I use when needed clonazepam for irritability, I have Bipolar Disorder and I am on Lithium and Seroquel also, and Prozac when depressed, clonazepam when either low or high as an extra weapon to curb my snappy head. problem i find if used too regularly when depressed is it can make me worse.

I would be more concerned about the expiration date on your medications. Please check the date and don't take any expired meds. Yes you are prone to serotonin syndrome as both are serotonergic. You should reduce both your fluoxetine and buspirone dosage to play it safe but don't break any capsules (I think Prozac is in capsules and you should never open a capsule). I think the Buspar is in tablets so its okay to break in half.

There are no side effects and its the best alternative to Lithium. I am on Lithium and love it, it just took quite a while for me to adjust to it. I think about four weeks. It made me really sick to my stomach you have to make sure you drink plenty of water and eat good before you take it. Also the upside to Lithium is it more natural then the other medications, and it only cost $4 at wal-mart hehehe. Lamictal is a little bit on the pricey side.

When I was on depakote I could hold down 3 jobs and go to college, but it started affecting my liver. Lithium was awful for me, but some people do really well on it.

Anyway if you responded well to Prozac last time then I guess you could try and get some again. Ask some friends about social services in your area. A social worker might be able to help you out. Getting prescription drugs in NZ is fairly cheap. I think I paid $3 for 90 fluoxetine pills. Good luck and hope everything works out for you!

but after being on so many meds in jan u know depakote,lithium,and zyprexa and now prozac im worried about seritonin syndrome...since being on the prozac i sweat alot...i think i did read thats a side effect....im doing more but im also kinda feel more sadness so my dr is upping the prozac from 20 mg to 40 mg.....im a bit worried about that as usual......i just feel so discouraged that nothing is gonna work.....and i cant take prozac in the day its makes me zonked...my dr was surprised by that..

tried lithium only one pill but i had to stop for some reasons. But I know people who take lithium and very much convinced about it. Pdocs all over the world nowadays try to revert to lithium again. Although you read about the side effects of lithium but those using it say it's safe if well monitored. I remember to have corresponded lately with a famous USA pdoc about some bipolar theory (another story) he said we are going back to lithium.

I have been diagnosed with Major depression for the past 15 years. Also have PTSD, and anxiety issues. Recently attempted suicide, did not succeed. Following a switch from paxil to prozac over the past few weeks. Have been having really strange symptoms of feeling that I could fly to intense anger back to despondency. Having strange impulsive thoughts that are out of character for me.

I just wanted to see how long it took most people to start feeling decent on the medications they take. I have been taking Prozac for about a month and Lamictal for almost 2 weeks. My mood seems to have somewhat improved and my frequent headaches are gone, but I always seem to feel tired, nauseous and have stomach problems since I started these. I have lost weight b/c my appetite has been very poor. I haven't had the urge to do exercise or much of anything still.

t had any severe side effects from these. The Prozac gave me a headache for a couple of weeks. And going on Lithium usually causes thirst and dry mouth. Do any of you have any experience with Prozac and Lamictal as far as weight or loss?

For several years now I've been taking Remeron, Paroxitine, Wellbutrin XL and Lithium; everything is at the top dosage. Only the Wellbutrin and Lithium I take during the day. These drops have been going on for quite some time, but now are the very worst they have been. Last year I had to quit a part time job because of this and got on the sub list. Mornings are my best times til 9:30am, I push myself thru chores and if I do go to work I pray that is only for 3.5hrs.

I was on a low dose. It made me shake and my eye twitch, so I dropped it and went back to the Wellbutrin/Prozac combo. Eventually that combination caused anxiety, so now I'm down to just the Wellbutrin.
