I have back problems and the extra weight was brutal. Soon as as switched to Topamax (which has weight loss side effects) I lost the extra weight plus.
Seizure meds are tough. They all have very extreme side effects. I've been on 4 different ones and I found that over time my body would get used of the side effects. Depakote was definately one of the better ones for me.

t really mind (dry mouth, loss of appetite, more outgoing/energy, weight loss) but I do have one strange one that I'm not too sure about.
I take my adderall after I eat a full breakfast, which is normally my only meal of the day (adderall dismisses my appetite). After about an hour of taking my medication, I have to go to the bathroom. I don't have an upset stomach, nausea, or anything like that, I just feel that pressure you get when you know you have to make a bowel movement.
If you are happy about the weight loss and find it beneficial to your health, consider that a very nice side effect.
Some ADs DO affect our weight, but usually not to extremes. You are not losing weight at a dangerous rate. 4.5lbs a month is a safe and healthy rate.
My concern would be that you only weighed 105lbs before the weight loss.
I think I would still let my doctor know if you were not intentionally trying to lose weight.
I have never talked to anyone who had Cushings with MS or as side effect. They have to report every side effect in trials even if it might have nothing to do with MS. It is either very rare or a person on the study had Cushings another autoimmune disorder as well as MS.
There are other drugs for pain or depression which are more likely to add to weight gain. I was 50 pounds over weight in 2007 when they first started testing for MS. I started changing my diet slowly and moderate exercise.
See your doctor and get tested for hypothyroidism and insulin resistance, both of which can cause weight gain/inability to lose.

We have a member (Namnam) that has experienced the same side effect to Fentanyl - weight loss. Luckily she claimed she had weight to lose. It did level off and she didn't continue to lose weight. In time you may have experienced the same results.
I think she's been on Fentanyl for about 5 years. It's the only thing that controls her pain.

Well that's very great news. Some of us are on medications that don't cause weight gain and it is much better. But some of us still are and the medications still work and don't cause other problems. For myself, the mood stabilizer I take Clonidine causes weight gain. I bought some chocolates today and I had already eaten dessert. I was going to snack on them anyway but I told myself not to or the weight gain would start so I didn't.
Weight gain has not been reported either as a common or rare side effect of dilantin. Weight loss is a gradual process and it is more difficult to loose weight in certain parts of the body including the mid section. Things such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, and high sodium foods can prevent you from burning abdominal fat. Avoid such foods and try exercises targeted to the mid section.
Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
re wrong I started feeling at the second day I took it it has done wonders for me but the only side effect that I do have is no appetite. I have also noticed that I am losing some weight I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it when I put my clothes on. Has anybody lost a significant amount of weight while taking this medication?
