My Internal Medicine doctor advised the ulcer is being aggravated by the acid which is causing nausea and pain, the Zantac was not strong enough. She prescribed Protonix 40mg twice a day, I have been on that and feel great; no fatigue, no nausea, no pain! Will be on this regimen for 30 days and then slowly cut back dosage to maintenance level of 40mg once a day every other day.
Zantac didn't work with my first pregnancy so my doctor prescribed protonix. This time around Zantac is working so far. I also try not to eat at least 2 hours before bed and sleep on 3 pillows. With my first pregnancy I put books under the legs if the head of my bed it got so bad. Good luck!
With that said, my doctor said if I can manage on the Zantac either once or twice a day to do that, since Zantac has less side effects. Chewing gum during the day helps me a lot too.
No stress, but a year ago when this started my whole family did get a cold, and this is when I thought it was asthma, but it wasn't. I had a GI scope about 3 months before this and was on the Protonix but was off by the time I had this first episode of chest issues.
4 PPIs: Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix; 2 H2blockers: Zantac and Pepcid; 2 antiacids: Gaviscon and Riopan. I couldn't take any of these more than a few days (from 1 to 13 days) because of their side effects.
The 2 bad side effects I've most often had are:
worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac)
a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan).
Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.

Not tired but some dizzy doesnt last long. I have GERD. I use to take nexium, then protonix then zantac. Had rnuclear stress test done was positive negative, had chest pain went to er had a cardiac catherization done was clear. I got worried scared took xanax for a few days been off all meds for two weeks now pulse last night 41. I walk around its 54 60s 70s sit down 54 48. I this the meds gave me irregular heart will it go back to normal..?Do i need the pace maker?
I was put on Carafate, Protonix and Zantac which never really helped very much...eventually, I got better and gained the weight back but every few months I get a flare up where I get pain under left shoulder and left front abdomen, chest pain and some burning...I just had a stress test, a nuclear stress test, an echo and blood work....the cardiologist says everything looked great--perfect stress tests and excellent blood work so he says go back to gastro doctor which I did..
yeah i already cut out all those foods and am taking zantac 300 twice daily and protonix 40 daily. It's still not working. i'm thinking its my gallbladder too.
I take protonix now because my heartburn/reflux was so bad. It is like the Cadillac of reflux meds and I love it. I tried tums and pepcid but they didn't work for me but try everything that is safe and hopefully somethings works for you good luck.
old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
So my doctor prescribed me zantac for heartburn.. he said to take it at night and i do but everyday around 4pm my heartburn comes back.. is it ok to take it at 4pm instead of 9pm at night? Im 33 weeks pregnant..
I use tums but dr says you can take zantac. I have it bad too...
I've had GERD for years and yes it seems to get worse during pregnancy. I'm 36 weeks now and it's bad. I have prescribe Protonix 40mg and I also wI'll have to take Zantac some days along with it. Try asking your Dr. about Protinix instead if you have worries. Try not to worry and stress your GERD can flare up. Good luck on everything.
I had very painful heartburn about a month ago and my doctor told me to Take zantac they have the 75mg and the 150mg i took the 75mg twice a day and it helped
I was taking Tums at.first, then moved to Zantac over the counter. Eventually that medicine didn't work anymore so my OB just prescribed me Protonix and I FINALLY have relief.
Um my doctor prescribed me zantac it helped me alot. With the heartburn.
m assuming some bad reflux,the pain is hurting in my back and down my arms...I am on protonix once daily and Zantac 75mg as needed...does anyone else get the arm & back pain ?
Hi, have you ever tried Zantac? Take the Zantac 150 (or two 75's) in the morning and before dinner at night, or before bed, whichever you prefer.
I have had heartburn forever and I tried the prescription meds, but I feel the Zantac works the best. But 75 is not enough, make sure you take 150 mg. twice a day. Also, you can supplement it with Mylanta or Maalox liquid if it's really bad.
I'm not saying this will be a miracle cure, but it's worth a try.
What do you ladies take for acid reflux? I'm 31 weeks and a few days and the past three weeks I've been waking up from a dead sleep vomiting from acid reflux. It gets up into my nose. The lining of my throat is burning. I have a cold right now too and asthma so vomiting and coughing is literally killing my throat. I just woke up from sleeping and threw up so badly I peed my pants. I'm so over this. I cant have Zantac because I'm super allergic.
However when i stopped before i had horrendous heartburn i was so miserable i was prescribed zantac but that didnt work. I am also prescribed lorezapam 0.5mg but have only been taking a half a day. I know thats VERY BAD TO USE. I dont have any problem with quitting that just have to find ways to calm my anxiety. But my omperazole i am. Has anyone stopped or took omperazole pregnant?
My doctor said it was fine to take Zantac. I take the 150 and that's the only thing that helps me otherwise I would be sick.
