Protonix vs dexilant

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix vs dexilant

protonix

Avatar m tn Currently, I am taking Protonix in the am and pm for heartburn problems that I have had for about 3 years (Dr thinks that it was likely GURD related symptoms). Recently replaced Protonix with Dexilant in the pm. Any advice would be great.
1387175 tn?1326400997 H2 blockers (ex. Zantec or Pepcid) are another type of medication used to treat GERD. PPI's (ex. Prilosec, Prevacid, Dexilant, Nexium, Protonix) are another class of medications used to treat GERD. H2 blockers are generally thought to be safer with less adverse reactions than PPI's.
Avatar m tn My employer switched insurance companies and denied paying for my dexilant medication. So I had to switch to protonix. Since Feb 2012, I began having the same mild stomach discomfort/burning sensation I was having two years ago, sometime indigestion. Food seems not to make a difference except pizza which makes symptoms worse or really greasy foods. This goes on almost daily now despite protonix and sulfate. I am a 30 year old male, 5'6 162 pounds with a 37 inch waist size.
Avatar f tn I have a stomach ulcer that will not heal no matter what medicine I'm given. It's been about a year. I was given a blood test and biopsy during endoscopy for h.pylori and both were negative. I read that there is a possibility of false negative test results if the person has been taking acid blocking medications.
Avatar f tn Dr. Watters, I recently came across an article stating that St. John's Wort can interact with ppi's making them less effective. I've been taking St. John's Wort 3x a day the entire time I've been trying to heal a small stomach ulcer with no results. What do you think the chances are that the St. John's Wort is the reason that Protonix and Dexilant didn't help?
Avatar f tn My primary care physician originally put me on Protonix for one month when I told him my symptoms. I had some improvement but the symptoms came back after stopping, so I was then put back on Protonix for 3 months. It did not get rid of the problem, so I had an endoscopy which revealed “erosion in the antrum compatible with gastritis”. I was told it was a small ulcer and looked like it was already trying to heal.
Avatar f tn s (proton pump inhibitors) are a group of medications used to treat GERD like Prilosec, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium, and Dexilant.
Avatar f tn Even though medicines like nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant are all very similar, sometimes you need to try many of them before you find one that works well for you. The nausea could be caused by the GERD. Are you on a GERD-friendly diet? Have you tried raising the head of your bed?
Avatar f tn t work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing. Well 4 days after using the protonix I started to have a bloated feeling. It never went away. It's mainly just a tight full feeling - not the actual distension but it's constant. And some times it's in the upper abdomen and sometimes just lower or both. A tight pressure will also come and go and feel like a brick is sitting on my abdomen.
709686 tn?1277432159 Protonix (Pantoprozole) does not give me problems...maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
Avatar f tn I'm a 42 year old female. Fairly healthy. I've been diagnosed with GERD since 2002. I had it under control with low-dose PPI's, diet changes and lifestyle changes until 2006. For the next couple years, I was diligent about my diet, lifestyle changes and taking my prescriptions which included taking high-dose PPI's twice a day (Prevacid Solutabs, Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, Zegrid, Kapidex, Aciphex, etc....) and supplemented with Gaviscon or Zantac.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
Avatar f tn Official diagnosis was erosion in the antrum compatible with gastritis. Been going on for about a year and a half. Burning pain pretty much everyday...some days are better than others and pain is worse in the morning. Hasn't responded to Protonix, Dexilant, Nexium, Carafate, or Zantac. None of those medicines help the pain...Carafate actually made my stomach burn slightly when I took it. I've had an endoscopy with biopsies. They said I didn't have cancer or h.pylori.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed via endoscopy with a small gastric erosion compatible with gastritis several months ago (negative for h.pylori). Have tried Protonix for 3 months, Dexilant for 2 months, Nexium for 2 weeks (felt worse), and have been on Carafate for a month. I've also tried some "at home remedies". Nothing works. I went to see my primary care Dr. for stress/anxiety and he thinks that may be why my stomach is not healing.
787406 tn?1339203183 then gave me morphine, zofran and protonix by injection. My blood pressure at this time was 140/92. They decided to give me Lopresser for the blood pressure which i immediately started throwing up for the next 2 hours, until the phenegran shot was given. I was also given a blood thinning injection. Test that were done was a chest x-ray, an EKG, Nuclear VG lung scans and a CT scan of my chest, all which came out negative.
Avatar n tn The only medication she started around that time was Dexilant 60mg. There is no history of heart problems but there are digestive issues. In april she had some bloodwork done and then again this month. We are thinking that she has symptoms of anemia but the doctors are saying its nothing too serious. Could the symptoms be caused by Dexilant? If so, how long until the Dexilant is out of her system (I mean if she would go off of it.) Also, is this bloodwork indicative of Iron deficiency anemia?
Avatar f tn The burning was so bad and severe, its so hot even my chest and breast, also pain under my rib. The doctor prescribe me pantoprazole ( protonix) and ordered me to change my diet with no spicy, pasta sauce, acid fruits, soda drinks. I feel a bit better in 2 weeks but still have burning in my stomach. I went back to my family dr dec 07, told her that I still have burning sensation in my stomach. So dr, sent me to gastroscopy.
Avatar m tn I tried a few different ones and none seemed to help except Dexilant after 8 months of use. The symptoms I have are extreme nausea almost daily, stomach pain, acid feeling, bloating, gas, a bubble that appears in my stomach below my sternum, scratchy throat. This happens after i consume anything that is acidic, chocolate, alcohol, mint, fruits, anything but water to drink, sugary foods, fried foods. I basically have felt nauseous all the time for the last 8 years.
Avatar f tn Well a couple of thoughts. First, some people can still experience "gall bladder type of pain," even after having their gallbladder to move. This is different from person to person and depends on each of our bodies ability to adjust to digesting without a gallbladder. A lot of people however find they can't eat 100% freely and do have to somewhat maintain their pre-gallbladder removal diet, such as avoiding high fats.
Avatar n tn There is no 'safer.' It depends on which one works better for you. They don't all work by a completely similar mode of action. So you'll have to try to find the one that works and gives you the fewer side-effects.
Avatar f tn Someone in my family is experiencing a lot of pain and burping at the same time. The pain is on the side of her neck and is constantly burping don't know why but she's been to the ER to the regular doctor and her appointment with the GI Doctor is a month away. The doctor has prescribed Dexilant but it hasn't worked and has been 3 days. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be and why it's causing her so much pain?
Avatar f tn By mid August 2021 everything went back to normal, I ate what i wanted and still took dexilant until my insurance said dexilant was going to cost more so I started taking omeprazole 20 milligrams in late 2021. Still everything was going great then in March 2022 I went to my doctor and started only taking it three times then two times a week. Eventually I stopped taking it all together in Jan. 2023 I had no problems at all.
721523 tn?1331581802 Hi Ann, Sorry, no experience here, but oh my, I'd be afraid too with the chance of making an existing issue worse. Did you mention your fears to the Dr.? Or, did you do the research afterward, and are now scared? It's that old balancing act, symptoms vs. risks, side affects, etc. Not an easy place to be in.
Avatar m tn Wait a month and go on Protonix (Pantoprazole) and come back. What is the point? I have been on Omeprazole since September 2nd - over 7 weeks and the Endoscopy (done on 10/21) showed my tonsils are the size of grapes! Is that not any indication anti-acids are not working or solving my Dysphagia and swollen tonsils!? I was on Zegerid and probiotics(still taking them) for 3 months prior to September and still had the swollen tonsils.
