I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill. After I took for 30days, I was off of it couple of days but again, the pain was coming back, so I went to get refill, and started taking daily.
in 2 and a half weeks, I finally realized the only change in my life was the protonix. After some research I found a lot of people with similar symptoms and I called my doctor. They told me to stop taking the medicine and call to see how I'm feeling in a few days. After I stopped the medicine the haze lifted but I was still having a lot of the other symptoms. I did some more research and found that protonix can cause a vitamin B-12 deficiency and anxiety.
Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
3)I read your (Dr. Handsfield) recommendation not to test by on line services. I was thinking in get tested through one of them (I got a CBC once through them). Actually, they are only a kind of “middleman” between client and Lab (LabCorp most times, at least in California). The test itself is done in LabCorp and the official result is showed with their hallmark. Is there problem on that?
I took protonix for a long time and got the same palpitations. My research uncovered that pump inhibitors like protonx cause a magnesium deficiency and magnesium is necessary to regulate your heartbeat. I stopped taking the pills cause it said that prolonged magnesium deficiency can cause serious heart problems. Since then I take Zantac, it does next to nothing even though I take 4 maximum strengths a day, and I pop tums all day, but the heart palpitations have gone away.
I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..
I inquired about taking the Western Blot at U of Washington and they gave me some assurances about my results and interestingly stated that in their research, Valtrex may delay seroconversion by week or 2 max. certainly nothing past 4 months. I thought this was interesting and worth sharing. Hope everyone is well.
There are treatments to help manage liver cancer (HCC) but I would think those services would only be available at the most advanced hospitals in the country. Here in the US these services are primarily available at large teaching hospitals in large cities. Since cancer is such a serious condition I would suggest you go to the largest and most prestige cancer hospital that you possibly can.
I am wondering if long term protonix use has been linked to joint and muscle pain as well as hearing loss. I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years.
I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis.That is why Altana,the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
He put me on zoloft and prilosec, and told me I had FHH..... I did some research on FFH and now I know I do not have FFH as it is hereditary and extremely rare...My doctor didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about when he told me I had it anyway.
Later on the heartburn got better, but I started getting weird flanking pains on the left side, and abdominal pains toward the left side. Before this I had a upper GI endoscopy to check for GERD.

He put me on protonix, and scheduled me for an EGD and Gastric Emptying Test. Both came back fine, but still feel horrible. Surgeons question if it could be anxiety? I really don't think so. Went back to the gastro today to follow up. He changed my dose of protonix, and said to see how that worked.
I have been taking Protonix for 5 yrs. Originally had Bowel obstruction surgery 7 yrs. agao. Bad doctor from emergency room referral, no antibiotics before during or after. Contracted acute sepsis, jaundice then ARDS.
On ventelator in coma for several weeks. Upon awakening had hole in my stomach size of a football. Several failed mesh surgeries, finally flapped and repaired by reputable nationally known surgeon. Still have adhesions requiring decompression sometim es, etc.
