protonix

Avatar f tn I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..
Avatar m tn Heartburn, throat feels like its on fire, chest pain, acid taste, indigestion, back pain, burping, acid coming up every time I burp. Finally got in to the gastro dr. He put me on protonix, and scheduled me for an EGD and Gastric Emptying Test. Both came back fine, but still feel horrible. Surgeons question if it could be anxiety? I really don't think so. Went back to the gastro today to follow up. He changed my dose of protonix, and said to see how that worked.
709686 tn?1277432159 I've been diagnosed with Peptic Ulcer Disease and currently take Protonix and Carafate and I think I've developed some side effects to the Protonix (Cough, Dizzy, ligthheaded, lower back pain.) Also...I suffer from bad belching, gas and pressure which I just found out is something called Dyspepsia. Over the past 4 years I've taken aspirin on a regular bases for headaches and general body aches and pains and read on a website that aspirin can be a major contributor to Dyspepsia.
Avatar n tn This is a condition where your body no longer tollerates a substance called gluten. Gluten is in EVERYTHING we eat... bread, beer, salad dressing, ketchup, crackers, croutons, pasta, etc. The classic sypmtoms of this is loose stools, diareaha shortly after eating, foul smelling stools, gas and stomach cramping. Lazy doctors frequently misdiagnose Celiacs Disease for IBS. I had to force my GI doctor to test me for it. Now here is the funny part.....
Avatar f tn ve been on 40 mg of Prilosec for three months and it made me feel a little better but not great. My GI doc switched me to Protonix yesterday and it made me feel dizzy and the acid was terrible, so I switched back to Prilosec today. I've tried to maintain a gluten dairy free diet with no coffee or alcohol. I've tested negative for celiac. But if I do go off the diet, symptoms start a couple days after and take a week to go away.
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
Avatar f tn GI said IBS, needed more fiber, stress, etc. Was on 10mg lexapro and 40mg protonix. Lost a ton of weight when this happened. Went to GI doctor they ended up doing endoscopy and found polyp on gallbladder. Underwent ultrasounds for awhile to see if polyp was growing. Finally had it removed in 2008 after HIDA scan. Ended up gaining all weight back and more. Was doing ok on and off - still would have bouts with stomach. Fast forward to this past September.
Avatar f tn I had been on GERD meds for a long time, protonix, prevacid, zantac etc. I did not realize this could cause malabsorption of vitamins and am chronically deficient in iron, vitamin d, magnesium etc and was put on prescription vitamins. I stopped taking the acid reflux meds for a few months and now am waking up a lot at night (in addition to my sleep apnea), have gunk in my throat and feel stuff coming back up again.
Avatar f tn Irritable bowel syndrome is diagnosed by elimination of other causes. Gluten is a complex protein present in four main grains---wheat, rye, barley and oats. If you have gluten intolerance, then you probably have celiac disease or Non Celiac gluten sensitivity. There are blood tests called celiac test to detect gluten intolerance. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn t work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing. Well 4 days after using the protonix I started to have a bloated feeling. It never went away. It's mainly just a tight full feeling - not the actual distension but it's constant. And some times it's in the upper abdomen and sometimes just lower or both. A tight pressure will also come and go and feel like a brick is sitting on my abdomen.
Avatar f tn I was taking protonix for the past 4 years, befir this. it seasm to wrok better but ill have to look into it find somethign else.
Avatar n tn 4 months ago she was hospitalized again for 4 days and her ulcer was rechecked and healed, so she was diagnosed with mesenteric adenitis. She is on 30mg of Lexapro a day. Protonix twice a day. She is 5'4" 170 lbs. She continues to have boughts of this immobilizing pain and we have consulted a hemotologist/oncologist -per our GI's suggestion - with no answers. She has missed numerous days of school -which she actually loves and is a straight A student.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar f tn ve had every test you can imagine- CT scan, abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds, blood tests including the gluten-intolerance one, a gastroscopy, an x-ray with barium meal. Ended up giving up finding an answer and existed on maxalon for a few years- missing way too many days of work. Anywho I am almost constantly nauseous now, usually mild, sometimes severe. i never vomit. My bowels are quite normal- no constipation, and every now and then a touch of loose bowels, but usually normal.
1176471 tn?1263733305 put me on protonix for a month and said to stop it and see how I do...I still have days that our worse than others..I'm trying to figure out if maybe I have a food allergy which is causing it..I also am trying to read on food combing and diet to see if that would help me...I cut out alot of foods that I think might be causing my symtoms like, onions, caffeine, spicey, fatty, fried foods, tomato based foods...I have not had a test done to check my gallbladder yet...
Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis. That is why Altana, the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
Avatar f tn Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
Avatar f tn I am also wondering if u may have a gluten issue.Keep a journal of what u eat...and track all ur symptoms and see if u have a trigger . Keep us posted on ur progress and please ask more questions!!
Avatar f tn I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill. After I took for 30days, I was off of it couple of days but again, the pain was coming back, so I went to get refill, and started taking daily.
Avatar m tn You can have gluten intolerance or Celiac either one and still have a negative test result. It isn't really a simple and straight forward answer if you get a negative test result. I probably don't have Celiac, but I'm not entirely sure. However, I definitely have gluten intolerance, even though the test result is negative. Plus, I have a sibling and the siblings kids with both gluten intolerance and Celiac.
