My HMO will not cover the cost for Protonix or the generic form. Can you tell me if OTC Prilosec will have the same efficacy as Protonix? Thank you for your time.

~$.37/pill for 20mg Generic, ~$.56/pill for 40mg Generic, ~$.95/pill 20mg Brand, ~$1.10/pill 40mg Brand. For the moment, see if your doc will allow you to use generic Omeprazole (aka, Prilosec OTC). While there are better things out there, it might work as a stop gap measure that's not as extreme as Reglan. Good luck.

actually medicaid will pay for protonix or a generic version of it...I had gotten it filled three X just recently.

I am aware of Protonix generic Pantoprazole. I have now been advised by a Pharmacist that Prevacid will help me. Will it?? Is this a Beta Blocker only or more? Are there ANY Proton pump Inhibitors out there other than Protonix and generic?. Is there a hospital injection of medicine that can be given? I will anxiously await any and all replys. I am living on Pepcid now with little relief. My Pharmacy puts Protonix at $737. for 180 40mg.tabs of Protonix and $570 for Pantoprazole.

The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.

Patent comes off dec 2009 if I recall. As far as cost - if you have insurance once it's generic it usually goes on the cheaper generic copay list if you have that sort of insurance. so for instance if with your insurance you pay $30 for non-generic drugs on the approved list and $10 for generics on the approved list - you'd be paying $20 less/month for your valtrex. Typically it's 30% reduction in price when it goes generic initially for paying out of pocket. drugstore.

Is anyone out there taking Teva's version of Nexium? I'm to the point now where I can't get the brand. I was astonished to see that this generic version's co-pay through my insurance is so high! $80 for 90 days. I could understand this price for the brand, but for generic? Anyway, I had tried this version as I had to with my last insurance, it and I didn't do as well on it. I tried it for a week. I an wondering if it was just my imagination.

Perhaps your son has allergies to foods with acids? Both orange juice and spicy foods have lots of acid content. You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings.

I ran into a Protonix discount program that is supposed to work over your phone by texting PRO. Has any one used this program or one like it? I looked into places on this forum but could not find if there was a better place for this question so I apologize if I am in the wrong section. I am having to switch to the generic version of Lexapro as it is now available. Insurance wants the change and I am OK with it as the cost will be less. My question is has anyone been on it and can they tell a difference??

Besides the cost, is their truly a difference between Nexim and Prilosec. The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.

I also experience chronic peptic disease (for the last 2 years) for which I take 80 mg of Protonix PPI (generic) each morning and 300 mg of Rantidine each evening. Lower doses don't help as much. Yet, I still wake up in the morning with a little discomfort in my gut. Are you aware of relationships between hypothyroidism and peptic disease? Are there any treatments you could recommend for peptic disease? I already try to avoid high acidic foods and alcohol and caffeine.

My doc just prescribed me heartburn med Protonix...it is amazing ! I was having the same issues with thinking if I was taking to many tums- the heartburn was KILLING ME !!! Just ask your doc... my doc told me if this med didn't relieve my heartburn that there was another med she could prescribe. ..but the Protonix has been great. Take it once daily and I'm good to go !

the generic in india is absolutely the same as brands, it is just cheap and easy chemicals.....so easy to do.

I was very surprised and pleased when the new rx arrived in the mail - Provigil has now gone generic, and Modafinil (the generic name) was shipped instead of the name brand. The cost? Hi Grace, I just wanted to point out that a lot of us here in the US are uninsured and don't have a "provider". therefore it's the cost and means of getting the prescription itself that is the big hurdle to getting the Acyclovir treatment. Do you know of any other ways an uninsured person can get a doctor to write a prescription without having to pay $300 for an out of pocket office visit?

Generics are just a name change only, from high cost brands name medicines to low cost brand name medicines. Just like all other products sold here in the US: Toilet paper, clothing, clothes soaps, and foods, etc., etc., etc. I buy a lot of generic products, which are made by brand name companies, with the same ingredients. Its the advertising of the "Brand Name" products that is where the high cost comes from.
