ve been having severe stomach pain and now my GI doctor thinks it is from the Protonix, which it probably is. His solution is to take me off of the protonix completely. He told me to go cold turkey off of it, but I am having such bad heartburn that I think I'm going to taper it. Shouldn't it be tapered anyways since going off of that much PPI would cause your stomach to over produce acid? Anyone have any ideas?

No matter what I eat I get heartburn all the time. Tums and rolaids don't seem to help at all. Anything you suggest??? Also I heard that heartburn is a sign that your baby will be born with a full head of hair. Any truth in this?
My doc just prescribed me heartburn med Protonix...it is amazing ! I was having the same issues with thinking if I was taking to many tums- the heartburn was KILLING ME !!! Just ask your doc... my doc told me if this med didn't relieve my heartburn that there was another med she could prescribe. ..but the Protonix has been great. Take it once daily and I'm good to go !
Okay tums just arnt cutting it. The heartburn is so annoying and I don't know what else I can use. Anything else I can take other than tums?
Im looking for answers. For 2 years I had continuous stomach pain, heartburn and chest pains. I was seen numerous times in the ER when the pain got to bad. Everytime I was told there was nothing wrong. Finally one doctor decided to do a hida scan and found I had a low function gallbladder. it was only 17%. In November I had my gallbladder removed. I had a lot of pain and the heartburn instantly returned.. and I would get nauseas with one bite of food.
I was on Protonix for awhile for acid reflux, then was switched to Nexium, which I still take. The Inderal, I think, is a beta blocker, which makes heartburn worse. So does aspirin. That's probably why you were given Protonix. I don't take a beta blocker nor do I use aspirin, Advil, or Aleve because they make reflux worse. I do take one other med that causes mild reflux, but I have to take that for the rest of my life. So, I take a low dose of Nexium.
Before getting pregnant with my daughter, i was on protonix off and on two years. I didn't have heartburn at all with my daughters pregnancy, but now pregnant with my son, i have so many digestive issues. I have been on Protonix again for almost a month and it helps but not 100%. I don't know what else to do, i also had an ejection fraction of 22% for my Gallbladder back in 2011.
Will these problems go away after i deliver my son? Or will the problems persist?
I'm 22weeks and 2days...I've dealt with heartburn throughout my pregnancy but its getting bad now. Every time I eat anything I can feel the acid bubble up!! Its so painful and frustrating...I take tums like candies when its bad but its such temporary relief...I'm lactose intolerant so milk is out of the question...any other suggestions? I'm dreading laying down for bed in a couple hours!!
For the past month I have had SEVERE pain in my upper abdomen,sternum area.This pain comes every time that I eat,and last until I throw up or get the retches.I have lost 12 pnds in 3 wks.Was admitted to hospital for dehydration.Have an ultrasound,catscan,hida scan and upper gi series.The only thing abnormal was upper gi showed sever gastroesphagal reflux.I had a lap nissen about 8 yrs ago,and havent had heart burn since.
He took Prilosec OTC once a day prior to his heart attack for heartburn/reflux. Since his heart attack and stent, his heartburn/reflux has become much more frequent and severe. His doctor prescribed Protonix 40 mg once a day, but he still has to take antacids throughout the day to try to control it. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve it?
I know supplements are difficult to get into your system for lack of acid in the stomach when you take protonix....but is it the same for iron rich foods? Would the stomach also block iron and other nutrients you get from food since it blocks supplements as well? If so, how can I take the acid reflux meds but still get the nutrients my body needs?
pylori, I was given antibiotics,protonix, I was given protonix for 3 months only, as soon as I stopped taking the protonix, heartburn return. I had an egd done which was negative for H.pylori, now I am experiencing nausea after I eat, maybe 3 times a week, when I experience nausea it usually ruins the rest of my day, I am not taking anything for nausea.
Did u try taking something before bed just in case? Hope it gets better!!

The doctor said it was stress and prescribed Protonix . Protonix is for acid reflux- I have never had heartburn or acid reflux.
The pain subsided (I believe due to the Tylonel 3 which has codeine in it). I ate some chicken broth and crackers, took the Protonix and here a few hours later, I am feeling the pain coming back. I do not have any stress in my life at the moment, so I just don't think this is due to an acidic stomach from stress.
