Protonix bone loss

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix bone loss

protonix

Avatar f tn I have been taking proton pump inhibitors for 18 years and have just begun hearing about bone loss and other issues. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after finally seeing a doctor about the pain that I have endured for over 10 years. I was diagnosed with quite a bit of hearing loss a little over 5 years ago as well and have been wearing two hearing aids since, one ear being worse than the other. I am now wondering if it is due to the ppi meds.
Avatar m tn I have posted in the pain management forum, but not in this one yet. I've been having bad neck and shoulder and shoulder blade pain on the right side for a few months. I have been taking Protonix since May, 40mgs once every evening. Because I'm not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit.
Avatar m tn I called it a poisoning because she was IVed with Protonix twice even though her drs knew she was allergic.Allergic reactions to Protonix are many and are 99 times out of 100 diagnosed as something else.Unfortunately a certain number of patients will experience severe reactions to Protonix such as pancreatitis. That is why Altana, the German company who developed Protonix made Wyeth set aside monies to cover such reactions before they sold the patent to Wyeth.
Avatar f tn The surgery worked best on my lower teeth, slowing down the bone loss significantly and rebuilding bone/tooth connection (that's what the gortex is for. That type of surgery is even more advanced now, I think). It didn't have as much success with my more advanced upper teeth. You have to identify all compromised teeth and undergo aggressive treatment (surgery, root planing..), and then take very good care of your teeth and gums for the rest of your life.
Avatar f tn dentist said I have 50% bone loss. Is there anything else I can do to prevent further bone loss?
709686 tn?1277432159 Protonix (Pantoprozole) does not give me problems...maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
Avatar n tn of course surgeon said it needs to come out. that is what they said 4 yrs ago. at that time I tried to reduce fats, take protonix daily (also have to take Excedrin almost daily for Migraines- another story) but symptoms now waking me up at night. abd pain rad to back too, Hida scan ef 22%. I had been seeing my surgeon for follow up (thyroid and breast cysts/biopsies -benign) and GB became priority now. So I relented and surery was scheduled.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
Avatar n tn Been on basicaly every med on the market and recently I am on 2x daily protonix which has completley gotten rid of the nausea. My bloating (indigestion?) and belching throughout the day has gotten worse. It gets worse by the end of the day and after I eat dinner sometimes lasts for an hour. I also just started a new weight lifting routine to try and counter this weight loss I had in the past 3 years (dropped from 150 to like 135). I started this the same time as my 2x daily protonix.
709686 tn?1277432159 I've been diagnosed with Peptic Ulcer Disease and currently take Protonix and Carafate and I think I've developed some side effects to the Protonix (Cough, Dizzy, ligthheaded, lower back pain.) Also...I suffer from bad belching, gas and pressure which I just found out is something called Dyspepsia. Over the past 4 years I've taken aspirin on a regular bases for headaches and general body aches and pains and read on a website that aspirin can be a major contributor to Dyspepsia.
Avatar n tn ve been bothered by sharp pains, mostly in my lower left side in the area between my belly button and the inner corner of my hip bone. However, it also occurs sometimes on the opposite side in the same area. It seems to happen at random times and does not seem to worsen after I eat. I have been urinating without problem and staying regular as well. It gets a lot worse whenever I am laying down or have my stomach stretched out in some way.
717272 tn?1277590780 After mine straightened out I took (still taking) 1200 units of D3 and raised my D levels from 32 (low) to 43 (normal) in just 3 mos. Endo said that bone loss from D deficiency was repairable. Of course it can take a year or 2 to bring the bone density back to normal levels but beats a permanent future of swiss cheese bones and fractures. Rocker, people whose parathyroid hormone levels are too high should not take calcium at all.
20626144 tn?1502235748 It moves to the upper chest around the colar bone area. Sometimes under my right or left rib. I also have pain running through my right/left arm which looks to follow the big vein running under the arm with the palm facing up from the wrist to the beginning of the bend of the elbow. I also get headaches. Very fatigued! The weird thing is that I can "feel" everything even when I walk, like the vibrations, vibrating my chest. I can feel palpitations.
724811 tn?1291430786 I have to admit, my husband buys the right vitamins, I just often forget to take them. Are my legs sore from bone loss? Can this be reversed? Will I end up in a wheel chair? My legs are hurting all the time now, especially to the touch. Even wearing socks is starting to hurt my ankles. Does anyone else have this? I appreciate any replies.
Avatar f tn Hello! In October I had a burning pain under my breast bone and started burping after eating. Went to urgent care and doctor prescribed me omeprazole. Took it for two weeks and everything went away. The week of Thanksgiving the pain started to come back and then I had heartburn that lasted for 4 days. Back on the omeprazole. After a week and a half it didn't work so I went to the ER and they prescribed me protonix. I had an ultrasound of my upper GI and it showed nothing.
Avatar f tn t have medicaid and yesterday my health insurance company said I must use generic of Prilosec first and if it does not work I guess my doc can request the Protonix. I really feel a difference not having the Protonix. Glad you can receive it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
Avatar n tn old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
Avatar f tn I went to see family doc and he did blood test to rule out pancreatitis (result came back normal), and put me on Protonix 40mg, once a day. I took for couple of weeks, and felt ok, so stopped, but pain would come back, so went back on it couple of days later. The bottle had 30pills, and one refill. After I took for 30days, I was off of it couple of days but again, the pain was coming back, so I went to get refill, and started taking daily.
