Protonix and vitamin absorption

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix and vitamin absorption

protonix

Avatar f tn I did not realize this could cause malabsorption of vitamins and am chronically deficient in iron, vitamin d, magnesium etc and was put on prescription vitamins. I stopped taking the acid reflux meds for a few months and now am waking up a lot at night (in addition to my sleep apnea), have gunk in my throat and feel stuff coming back up again.
709686 tn?1277432159 Sorry for all the posts...Im really scared right now. I've also read that ppi's and h2i's can cause a vitamin b deficiency which can cause hands and feet to get cold. I've been on and off all kinds of ppi's over the past few years and notice that I react harshly to even the smallest amouts. Protonix seems to be the only thing that does not cause me problems. Another side effect I have is my hands hurt BADLY when I wake up in the morning.
Avatar m tn I have been posting in the addiction forum because I was taking pain med for knees and began taking too much, then decided to quit. It's been a few months since I stopped the meds and I've experienced a lot of neck and shoulder pain. I've been seeking treatment with massage and chiropractic care. The pain is not subsiding at all. The chiropractor said that I don't have an injury, but fascia...itis in neck and shoulder.
19024797 tn?1471291132 m taking 6,000 IU of Vitamin D daily and have read many articles on how Magnesium and Vitamin K all work together in the process of absorbing Vitamin D and visa vera...but when my doctor but me on Vitamin D he didn't mention supplementing with Magnesium or Vitamin K. Do I really need to take all three? or can I just take Vitamin D?
Avatar n tn I found Magnesium helped with the aches and pains and with the Vitimin D , I took a combined Calcium/Vitamin D tablet. As they say that Vitamin D helps the Calcium to absorb. This was all ok'd by my Doctor as I have the vitamin deficiencies checked prior to taking anything. I was also told not to take any vitamins until at least 4 hours after the thyroxin.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I came off of Imdur 60 mg twice a day and a nitro patch. It was working but now I get real bad heartburn and my GERD (acid reflux) is back. Has any one had a similar experience? Here is a listing of my meds. Any help appreciated.
Avatar f tn I found out that I am low on calcium and omega and everything else including selenium (accept vitamin C and H) is on the border +/-. How is this possible when I eat healthy and I take vitamin/minerals supplements? I even thought I should stop using supplements for a while because i don't want to get overdose. Is it possible that tea can affect vitamin/mineral absorption? I don't consume coffee or sugar for months for anxiety reasons.
Avatar f tn So there can be no correlation between whatever level of liver fibrosis you had and absorption of these vitamins and minerals. (vitamin B and potassium are water soluble, so they are processed by the kidneys not the liver). If your liver was unable to function properly liver blood tests would not be within norms. You would have to have stage 4 liver disease before a damaged liver couldn't process vitamin A or have problems with an electrolyte such as potassium.
1802761 tn?1315971224 I took Vitamin D3 supplements of 7000 units a day for three months and levelled off at 5000 units a day. I now maintain a good, safe level of 5000 units a day. If you have a blood test, the test for Vitamin D is called (25-OH)and may cost $40-$50 extra, but it is worth the extra cost to learn your Vitamin D level.
Avatar m tn I have been doing that and my levels stay around 400 or so. I am on a PPI ( protonix) and that causes you to absorb less B12 so I really need the shots. Are you on a PPI such as nexium, protonix etc?
Avatar m tn Are there recomended diets for people who cant reabsorb bile? Is colestid safe long term, I heard it affects vitamin K absorption? ANyone out there going through the same as me?
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
Avatar f tn I did some more research and found that protonix can cause a vitamin B-12 deficiency and anxiety. I called my doctor and they wrote me off right away saying the drug should be out of my system and maybe I suddenly developed anxiety (never had any issue with anxiety in my entire life) and that I should see a doctor. I started trying to fix it on my own - I was miserable.
Avatar m tn We did see the ENT and he looked and said it was irritated so we started him on zantac. He has been refusing milk and cheese. He loves Broccoli. I wondered about thyroid but the nurse practitioner said it was good. Could a milk allergy or absorption problem cause these symptoms? He talked later than normal and had speech therapy for a year. His speech is good now but misses still a couple of letters. thriving in school just seems to be tired and pale a lot of the time.
Avatar n tn Eat a diet high in vitamin B12 and see if this improves your serum levels. The best sources of vitamin B12 include eggs, milk, cheese, milk products, meat, fish, shellfish and poultry. Take probiotics to help increase good bacteria in the gut and make sure you have adequate stomach acid. If low, then supplement with betaine HCI with pepsin; supplements found at health food stores. Try the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) test...
Avatar m tn Hi. I'm dealing with low vitamin D myself after recently discovering it is low. I've been supplementing for quite a while before learning that I'm low. Going to pick up portabello & shiitake mushrooms until my visit with GP. If I learn anything of value I'll share it here. It is said not to shower for 24 hours after sun exposure for full absorption of Vit D.
Avatar m tn There is also vitamin D at a dosage of 4000 IU, you can drink it for at least 3 months, and then do an analysis and check the results.
Avatar f tn Just found out I am pregnant I'm so happy so far u haven't had any morning sickness. I don't know how far along am I . I need to schedule an appointment with a midwife but I also have hypothyroidism I'm on synthroid my doctor said it's ok to take my prenatals and synthroid together but I read online that it will interfere with the absorption of iron .. also will my thyroid disorder even if treated cause a miscarriage?
Avatar m tn Excessive calcium intake can lead to a magnesium deficiency. And to note, magnesium is the most important co factor for vitamin D absorption. Vitamin D and magnesium are both needed for calcium absorption too. I'll send you some websites with more info.
Avatar f tn I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
