I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds......
so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid.

I would appreciate any information about marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) secondary to HepC infection?
My partner was diagnosed with MZL in Jan 08 by surgical biopsy of a lymph node in his neck. It's a rare indolent form & most likely results from HepC infection. He has a small patch in the bone but CT scans & a PET scan revealed no other nodes in between, so is sort of stage 1 & 4 at the same time.
He is 56yrs old, geno 1b, +ive for over 30 yrs.
m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
I have been to the hospital twice with two ekgs done normal and a lot of blood work normal I have bad shoulder pains leg pains arms ache and neck hurts when I drink or eat anything my chest hurts and my back hurts can stress and gets cause this I get headaches daily and the pain in shoulders and arms daily

I thank God that I had an abdominal ulrasound and cat scan with and without IV contrast and all was clear. I was so afraid that I had pancreatic cancer. My Dr told me that the CT scan was the best test for the pancreas. I just get nervous because I still get a discomfort way up high under my breastboneand occasionaly in my back but my Dr said this could be acid reflux. My endescopy also showed that I have gastritis which I know is painful as well.
Good questions, but your diagnosis suggests that no one, not even your doctors and specialists have yet to figure out the root cause of your thrombocytopenia. Wishing you best of luck.
I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
I called a few Hematologists, they were all confused why I was calling and I started feeling like an idiot and got very frustrated, the big change in hormones isnt helping I'm sure.
I'm starting to think I need to change doctors. He has only started 1 patient on triple therapy to date and I'm losing some confidence in his competence with Hep C.
My vet did a CBC and her platelet count was 13,000 and she was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia. Her WBC count was high and absolute leukocytes were of 17,000. No other abnormalities in the RBC's and most leukocytes (inlcuding neutrophil) were unremarkable. However, very occasional neutrophlis contained large homogeneous, pale basophilic cytoplasmic inclusions.
So I'm 11w+3d I'm on steroids for thrombocytopenia (low platelets) come to find out it's actually lupus.I'm scared and want to know if anyone has gone through this, this us my 3rd baby had normal everything with my other two children.don't know Y thus is happening.

Abstract
As discussed in this review by Maribel Rodriguez-Torres, MD, CPI, thrombocytopenia is a common finding in chronic liver disease, complicating diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures and anti-HCV therapy in many patients. Available treatment is inadequate and mostly limited to platelet transfusions with associated adverse events and complications.
I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..
I found out that my Wbc and my rbc both are normal, in fact everything about my blood work was normal. The only thing that was different was my platelets were at 115,000. The Dr. Said he is having me take another test to check my platelets in 3 weeks. I show no real signs of fatigue or anything else, so someone ease my mind please!!
It is hard to take care of my children and work a full time job. I am always so drained and tired. I gained a lot of weight because I was on high doses of prednisone. Has anyone experienced anything like this and can give me a guess when this will taper off? I want to lose this extra weight but feel so drained after work.
I started this the same time as my 2x daily protonix. After and during weight lifting it feels as though I cant breathe and have to sit down, then I belch for like 5 minutes. At the end it takes 2-3 hours before my stomach feels 'normal' again and I can actualy eat anything. I also have a hard time breathing due to this feeling of 'gas' in my upper stomach.
I have had two endoscopies done with them saying my z-line (sphincter muscle?) was abnormal.
