The Dr gave me Nexium, but I was still getting upper stomach pain and pressure in the chest an back. I was switched to Protonix and it seemed to help with the upper stomach pain right under the breastbone. I'm taking two pills a day. Does anyone know how long Protonix takes to work? I was told that some PPI's could take 4 to six weeks to take affect.
The pain had started moving to the same location on the left sternal border and sometimes substernally. He now suspected GERD. He started me on 80mg of Protonix for 2 weeks, and then a follow up. On the follow up my chest pains had reduced dramatically in both duration and severity, but they were still present. He took this as all he needed to diagnose me with GERD and give me a prescription for Protonix for another 6 weeks, 40mg.
Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you. My doc gave me a 3 week free-sample of Kapidex, and you take it once a day. I'm always open to trying something new.

I only started taking protinix 8 days ago and have had horrible stomach pain. Back in October my Gastro doc did an endoscopy and results were esophagitis; basically inflammation and several small ulcers. He described aciphex. My insurance initially said they didn't cover it, but the dr sent over an authorization & I was told it was good for one year. First two months my copay was $75 but in January when I went to p/u @ pharmacy I was told it was $480.
I have been using Protonix for almost a year now and it's worked great to help my Gastritis but I noticed something. Since taking it, my period comes later than it used to and for less time. I am a bit worried, is everything ok?
m realising I have a lot of symptoms of stomach cancer although from what I can see the symptoms of stomach cancer and reflux are very similar. This is how I feel:
Main symotom - recurrent bouts of painful integestion type feeling (kind of in my diaphragm) This happens as and when. Try as I might, I have no been able to pin point a certain thing or time in the day I get it. It seems to come randomly.
Excess gas - In the form of flatulence not so much burping.
Hoarsness in the morning.
Coughing.
I am an 18 year old male and I have dyspepsia (uncomfortable movements in the stomach) and I take 40 mg Protonix a day for the stomach. Lately I have been having small chest pains that come and go for a most 2 minutes. Yesterday I started having theses weird floating (not quite fluttering) sensations in my throat and chest. At the same time my vision goes dim and I feel lightheaded like I am about to faint. The lightheadedness only lasts for 2 seconds. It is very worrying.
Saw dr today after asking questions where he first thought maybe gallbladder, he said ulcer or gastritis and he bets gastritis. Prescribed protonix. Stook first dose about five hrs ago. Also drank some baking soda water and took pepto and its still there. Not exactly pain, just a gnawing empty feeling even tho i know im not hungry. Anyone ever have this? How long for protonix to kick in? I had nausea this morning too and vomited which is why i went to the dr. No burning really no heartburn.
s not only uncomfortable but embarrassing to be bloated and gassy almost every day. How long should I be on the Protonix, and should I be taking anything else to help ease the constipation? Before starting the Protonix I was fairly regular and my diet hasn't changed much, if at all, so I can't imagine any other reason for this. My doctor never indicated a length of time for taking it, he only listed refills on the bottle.
I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this.. So I decided to stop taking the Protonix...the last time i took it was thursday and i still feel like im in hell.... You would think I am detoxing from some other hard core drug and I havent taken anything else.. I am still so naseous, gagging, stomach pains, heart palps..and I am def not pregnant or anything like that so I cant find any other cause for all of this..
Is there anything i can do to get this medicine out of my system.
The radiologist thought she had colon cancer and also noted she had duodenumitis. The surgeon did not think it was cancer but maybe diverticulitis because of her severe pain. Thankfully it was not cancer. The pathology report said it was ischemic colitis. The surgeon thinks she may have had a blood clot that blocked the blood flow to her colon and that is why it died. I don't think the surgeon did anything about the duodinumitis. Should we be concerned about the duodenumitis?
The pain seemed to stop by the time I left the hospital the next day and they gave me 30 Protonix. The endoscopy a few days ago did not yield any real results, only finding minor irritation that they suggested could be the beginning of Acid Reflux, but I'm not sure because I do not have many of the symptoms (no nausea, difficulty swallowing, or chest burning sensation) and they could not tell me that Acid Reflux was definitely the cause. I do not smoke cigarettes.
s and the only thing that shows is excessive bile in his stomach and a small hyatel hernia. He had been on protonix for approx 4 years due to barretts esoph. and recently switched over to prevacid 2/day. The last endoscopy did not show barretts esoph. but he vomits sometimes 3 or more times a day. This can go on for days at a time then for some reason he has a day with no vomiting. This has been going on since February.
I guess I just have to live in pain for the rest of my life and hope I don't end up with a perforation or stomach cancer. I've already had breast cancer and melanoma, sure hope I don't have to add a third to the list. I don't understand why no one can give me anything close to an answer as to why none of these medicines work for me. I can't be the first person in the world who didn't respond to typical ulcer treatments.
I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
