protonix

Avatar f tn I have acid reflux and take protonix occassionally when needed...recently I had a bad scare where I suddenly starting gasping for air...I have had similar attacks in the past, but this one was major as I felt like I would stop gasping....There was no warning before the attack....It did subside...Is this common with acid reflux and what do I do when this happens? I did over indulge with food over the holidays...I am not over weight and I do exercise..

Avatar m tn My problem was chest pain. And when tests revealed no heart problems, they assumed reflux. The protonix helped the chest pain, so I assumed they were right and was grateful for the relief. But now I have questions. I'm also a few months off of pain meds so it's possible that the side effects were there all along and being masked by the pain meds. Look, I know doctors have their pat answers, but in my 54 years of experience, anything is possible.
177337 tn?1310059899 RNRita - I'm worried about going off because it really did help. I used to use Gaviscon but it stopped working. I have been on Protonix for quite a while so maybe I will stop and see if I can have luck with Gaviscon and Tums again. Did the pvc's stop right away as soon as you went off it? WIsconsin2007 - I don't see any literature with palps as a side effect either and my cardio gave them to me and told me it wouldn't bother my heart. But I have to wonder....
Avatar m tn Heart problems and lung problems have been ruled out, but when I walk sometimes I get short of breath, even a short distance. Could it be DDD in my neck causing this?
Avatar n tn Since I have been taking Protonix for GERD, my heart seems to be pounding in my throat. This has never happened to me before and is alarming. My blood pressure has always been low. Is this normal? Is there anything else I can take beside Protonix?
Avatar n tn So I am a 19 year old female and just recently was diagnosed with acid reflux disease. I am having an endoscopy done in two weeks because my pain has not subsided for a month and I have already been to the hospital three times and had an x-ray done (mostly due to anxiety thinking it could be something else). All of the sudden today though my heart rate has been really low and it is hard for me to breathe...
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had heartburn and stomach problems for over 30 years. I'm 67 yrs.old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr.
757527 tn?1237893063 I have been taking Trazadone and Celexa for several years and more recently, Protonix, for stomach pain/ possible ulcer. I am also using Aldera for an outbreak (first time) of genital warts. I went to my doctor several weeks ago complaining of severe lower abdominal cramping, epigastric pain after eating and pain in my upper right quandrant. No change in bowels I had a CT with contrast performed of my abdomen and pelvis.
Avatar f tn I am 39 yrs old, 5'2" 200lbs, with a history of heart disease in my family. I had an Echo 2D M-Mode C/Full Doppler in July 0f 2008, because I was experiencing shortness of breath and chest pressure/pain. The conclusions said "normal echocardiogram", but as I was reading the full report under the Left Atrium heading it says, "The left atrium is normal in size. The interatrial septum is aneurysmal." What does that finding mean??
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
Avatar m tn I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this.. So I decided to stop taking the Protonix...the last time i took it was thursday and i still feel like im in hell.... You would think I am detoxing from some other hard core drug and I havent taken anything else.. I am still so naseous, gagging, stomach pains, heart palps..and I am def not pregnant or anything like that so I cant find any other cause for all of this.. Is there anything i can do to get this medicine out of my system.
Avatar f tn I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
Avatar f tn hi, yes the symptoms your describing do mimic gastritis and gerd, but to be on the safe side, you should look to eliminate the possibilty of cardiovascular disease, as upper chest tightness and pain are typicall signs of heart disease, would you say that your pain is like a crushing sensation?
Avatar m tn It can be due to hypertension,Gastroesophageal reflux disease(do you have heart burn and difficulty in swallowing) and hiatal hernia, disorders involving the lung like Pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax etc;cardiac diseases, lung cancer, thoracic outlet syndrome, pancreatitis, gall bladder disease(fullness and pain in the right side of abdomen and chest after eating a greasy or fatty meal) and muscle pain[costochondritis(an inflammation of the joints in your chest)].

Avatar m tn Im a 32 year old Male, 5'7' 159lbs. Over the past two years I've had two Stess Test, One Stress Echo, Two echo cardiograms, several EKG's, X-Rays, Blood Work, and Ive worn a 24 hour monitor twice. This all started with a bout of PVC's that scared me pretty bad. They turned out to be harmless. All the test i listed have never shown any signs of heart disease, or anything abnormal just PVC's. My test results have been great.
Avatar f tn I only went thru chemo for 6 sessions, but I too suffered horrific heartburn and reflux. I literally thought at first that I was having a heart attack. It was a pain that I had never experienced before. I had to be very careful what I ate, and I was put on protonix, 40 mg, and that seemed to help me. Good Luck to you. God Bless.
Avatar n tn I wanted to add I've had 2 scopes, ct scan, blood work to rule out celiac disease and B12 issues, ultra sound. They cant find nothing other than hernia. However my Gastro DR says no way my hernia is causing this issue. Im on Pepcid, Carafate, GI cocktail, and protonix.
786158 tn?1236397775 I have a long family history of heart disease and have high blod pressure (taking avapro) and gerd(taking protonix) I have noticed a frequency in the pvc's since i started the avapro and protonix. Do i need to do any further testing? Do you think that these pvc's are increasing do to the meds? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn My Dr just put me on protonix because nothing else seemed to get rid of my heartburn. I take it morning and night and have been heartburn free since the 2nd day.
Avatar f tn s very successfully for years, but also mixed in lab tests to make sure the drug mix I was taking could be tolerated. I was taking some very powerful heart meds as well, such as Plavix, Coreg and Ranexa and Lasix. Lasix requires taking gorilla doses of Potassium, so I was monitored carefully, every 90 days. I had a Nissen Fundoplication and also Heart Bypass surgery so no longer have to take any of these medications except Lasix and Potassium. I had no Magnesium depletion.
325086 tn?1217971180 I Goggled Protonix, Liver and there were multiple articles that warned of a Liver Side Effect. Most just said to be careful of the dosage.......................of course, everything has that!
Avatar f tn Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds...... so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid. I have noticed mine cycles....
1740498 tn?1328962585 My neuro mentioned that MS is a disease of both the gray and white matter. I read through the previous postings about this, and it looks like it's been about two years since it was discussed. I guess I'm wondering... 1. Do we know any more about it than we did two years ago? About the impact on disease, the ability to image this, etc. 2. Do we know what role iron levels or supplementation might play? My serum iron was a little low (10 ng/mL)...
