Protonix and gas

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix and gas

protonix

Avatar n tn I started this the same time as my 2x daily protonix. After and during weight lifting it feels as though I cant breathe and have to sit down, then I belch for like 5 minutes. At the end it takes 2-3 hours before my stomach feels 'normal' again and I can actualy eat anything. I also have a hard time breathing due to this feeling of 'gas' in my upper stomach. I have had two endoscopies done with them saying my z-line (sphincter muscle?) was abnormal.
1479013 tn?1330699762 t help but had to try that first before insurance would pay for Protonix. I have been on Protonix for over a year now and am having problems again. Right after I eat, I get bloated; I liken it to when you are full and you bend over to tie your shoe and you feel so much pressure on your stomach and diaphragm area and your head feels full of pressure. That's what I feel like after I eat and I am NOT bending over.
Avatar m tn m pretty sure I have it myself (why I know any of this) but you basically need to only eat green veggies and organic (non antibiotic) chicken for a month and take probiotics, and hopefully that kills off the yeast overgrowth. Sugars and starches are what feed it, so you cant eat any of that.
Avatar f tn I take Protonix to control my gerd. An allergist recommended this and it does seem to make a difference. Does anyone else take these types of meds to control their gerd and, ultimately, help with asthma? I cannot get Protonix any longer through my health insurance and was wondering if someone took something else as effective. Prilosec and Nexium do not have as good as effect as Protonix for me. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Gas and bloating and trapped gas - is common if your certin medications , as they can cause this to happen/ as well with acid reflux , you should be taking somekind of med for it (to stop it from happening) gas can cause palps to happen in some cases. yes it depends what your eatting too! try and eat as blan as you can - dont drink soda pop's fizzy drinks - eat slow and try to keep the mouth closed when eatting, dont talk while eatting. as air gets down inside you - thus gas builds up.
1176471 tn?1263733305 put me on protonix for a month and said to stop it and see how I do...I still have days that our worse than others..I'm trying to figure out if maybe I have a food allergy which is causing it..I also am trying to read on food combing and diet to see if that would help me...I cut out alot of foods that I think might be causing my symtoms like, onions, caffeine, spicey, fatty, fried foods, tomato based foods...I have not had a test done to check my gallbladder yet...
Avatar f tn I am 35 weeks and have been on protonix since about 8 weeks or so. It is a life saver. I would still definitely call your doctor and find out what they want you to do.
Avatar n tn s very hard on the stomach and causes reflux and gerd. Take a Prilosec and walk. Get the gas out. Gas pain can be extremely painful and stressing about it will just make it so much worse. I know this is an old post but wanted to help anyone reading.
Avatar n tn I started taking Protonix daily and watched what I ate. I have a lot of bloating and gas and a little bit of pain. My symptoms are not too severe all the time but I start to panic when I get in a quiet environment like a classroom or a work meeting. I get really worried about having an episode. Unfortunately, the panicking makes me have an episode of bloating, gas, and pain. I don't mind the pain but the bloating and gas episodes are not allowing me to do day to day tasks.
709686 tn?1277432159 I've been diagnosed with Peptic Ulcer Disease and currently take Protonix and Carafate and I think I've developed some side effects to the Protonix (Cough, Dizzy, ligthheaded, lower back pain.) Also...I suffer from bad belching, gas and pressure which I just found out is something called Dyspepsia. Over the past 4 years I've taken aspirin on a regular bases for headaches and general body aches and pains and read on a website that aspirin can be a major contributor to Dyspepsia.
Avatar f tn Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds...... so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid. I have noticed mine cycles....
Avatar m tn After getting these aches in my left rib, and sometimes right, doc sent me for and endoscopy. Said I have very slight Barrett’s and some inflammation and put me on protonix. Also have small polyp on gallbladder that we will check again in 6 months. He said the pain in rib (front and side) can be caused from this, and that it affects everyone differently. I don’t have much indigestion and have a great appetite, etc.

Avatar n tn Hello I have had chest pains for nearly fifteen years that recently have been more recently, I have been on Nexium for nearly two years and I was on Protonix for one year before that. I know that stress, poor eating habits and drinking could be factors however I have limited these factors but still get freuquent lateral chest pains that feel like stabbing sharp pains, can you offer any help?
Avatar m tn Dear Bear, Sometimes after antibiotics, you can get indigestion like you have. Antibiotics kill both "good" and bad bacteria. Good bacteria in the digestive tract breaks down food. When you don't have that bacteria, food can be slower to pass, and thus you get bloating and gas pains. An easy way to restore good bacteria is to consume Acidophilus products, which you can buy in the grocery store.
Avatar m tn m not getting relief with chiropractic care or anything else for that matter, I started thinking about medication and side effects. The protonix s the only thing that could possibly be the culprit. I went off of it two days ago, took omaprazole instead, and have had a 50% reduction in the pain. Has anyone else experienced this. I am reluctant to mention it to the doctor because I'm afraid he will dismiss it. I want to be sure before I talk to him.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Hi there! not sure if you remember me or not. We exchanged postings awhile ago & I shared my bad experience with you I had with a ENT performing a negligent sinus surgery, as well as being told I had a hiatal hernia. I had asked your advice about discontinuing protonix if I don't have a hiatal hernia. Your advice was to ween off protonix by switching to pepcid or Zantac. Well, I visited my gastro/hepatologist for a issue with high liver enzymes. He asked why I was taking protonix.
Avatar f tn I have been to the hospital twice with two ekgs done normal and a lot of blood work normal I have bad shoulder pains leg pains arms ache and neck hurts when I drink or eat anything my chest hurts and my back hurts can stress and gets cause this I get headaches daily and the pain in shoulders and arms daily
Avatar n tn I had tons of gurgling in my stomach and colon area and a general feeling of having trapped gas/air/bloating all over. My bowel movements started changing. One day they would be shaped fine, the next day they would be kind of skinny, then one day they would be weird puzzle shapes and kind of like diarrhea, then the next day diarrhea, then back to normal. No particular order. This went on for two months. I saw my doctor. He pushed around on me and said he didn't feel any lumps.
Avatar f tn Hi Selma, I thank God that I had an abdominal ulrasound and cat scan with and without IV contrast and all was clear. I was so afraid that I had pancreatic cancer. My Dr told me that the CT scan was the best test for the pancreas. I just get nervous because I still get a discomfort way up high under my breastboneand occasionaly in my back but my Dr said this could be acid reflux. My endescopy also showed that I have gastritis which I know is painful as well.
Avatar f tn I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
7763229 tn?1396626895 I am on pepcid a.c. now and it tears my stomach up. Mmm I have an appt today so we'll see.
Avatar f tn It was only a days ailment and went away but now since yesterday I notice after I wake up and drink water with my pills I get this sensation that there is something in my throat and like I have trapped gas and I need to burp so I drink water and indeed I burp. I am on Protonix 1 x 40mg and I suffer from gastritis/esophagitis since 2010 but every fall and spring I am.in a flair. Any advice?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the acid reflux meds for a few months and now am waking up a lot at night (in addition to my sleep apnea), have gunk in my throat and feel stuff coming back up again. I also had to go to ER for left side pain and found that my spleen was "upper normal" but "markedly englarged on physical exam" and that it was a little harder/solid than it should be.
Avatar f tn I have no idea what it is but i know it has something to do with indigestion because a few months before i became pregnant, I was told I have acid reflux and was taking protonix for a month or so, then it went away, but came back all of a sudden with the pregnancy. The pains are soo bad im kinda contemplating whether I should go to the ER or just wait another day. It feels like my insides are going to explode. Im kinda scared.
Avatar m tn Otherwis I get pain in chest and the feeling that there is alot of air or gas in middle of chest. I have to stretch and force myelf to burb to try to let it out. It is extremely uncomfortable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am 31 and just started having problem this year MAN it SUCKS !!!
177337 tn?1310059899 RNRita - I'm worried about going off because it really did help. I used to use Gaviscon but it stopped working. I have been on Protonix for quite a while so maybe I will stop and see if I can have luck with Gaviscon and Tums again. Did the pvc's stop right away as soon as you went off it? WIsconsin2007 - I don't see any literature with palps as a side effect either and my cardio gave them to me and told me it wouldn't bother my heart. But I have to wonder....
