Avatar f tn Drugs most commonly used to treat essential tremor include beta-blockers (propranolol) and an epilepsy drug called Mysoline (primidone). Topamax (topiramate), another drug used to treat epilepsy and migraine help some people. With the use of medication, people with essential tremor may see improvement in their ability to control their tremor and improvement in activities such as drinking from a cup or using food utensils.
Avatar n tn I hav consulted my doctor again and he told me to continue the propranolol tablets for 6months..He told me that the tremor is because of the excess secretion of some hormones..
Avatar n tn I am a 38 year old who has been developing a tremor in my dominant hand for the past 18 months. I also have been taking imipramine for the last 18 years for a panic disorder. I tried reducing my imipramine dosage about the time the tremor began but then went back up to my original dose. The tremor continued and seems to be getting worse. Ive read that imipramine can cause tremors but find it hard to believe it would start after all these years.
Avatar f tn I just wanna know other than propranolol, are there foods that have beta blockers? I have benign essential tremor and it is most active when I'm speaking in front of group of people (these include hands, voice, and cheeks) but it happens all the time even in a normal day. what shall I do? I can't concentrate on my job and for any discussions we have because of this ET.
Avatar f tn Hi, abnormal involuntary movements (AIMs) are also known as 'dyskinesias'. Tremor, chorea, dystonia and myoclonus are examples of types of dyskinesia which have different mechanisms and modalities of treatment. Your symptoms could be due to 'intentional tremor’. We usually encounter intention tremor in certain neurological diseases affecting the cerebellum or its connections with the brainstem and spinal cord.
Avatar n tn This sounds like essential tremor, which a neurological disorder is causing involuntary shaking of particular body parts, head and hands. These tremors worsen when hands are used rather than when resting. It may affect the voice making it quivering. Usually the cause is unknown, without a known cure. It is different from parkinson’s disease. parkinson’s involves involuntary tremors at rest, muscle stiffness, slowness of movement and is caused by deficiency of dopamine in brain.
Avatar m tn if i stop propranolol my desease get worse,is there any other medicine to take for hand tremor or should i consult a docter soon. is this becourese or propranolol. please be kind enough to answer my question .
Avatar m tn ) in my calves, along with benign familial tremor. I tried propanolal for several years, which decreased the severity of both problems. Unfortunately, the respitory side-effects from the medicine forced me to discontinue it. Any suggestions on different medications that I might try? Also any thoughts on someone somewhere specializing in myokymia? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Familial tremor is an essential tremor occurring in more than one family member, passed down through families usually as dominant trait. Shaking involves small, rapid movements, head nodding, shaking or quivering of voice if larynx is involved, difficulty in writing, etc. These are usually intention tremors and other causes which need ruling out is alcohol withdrawal, hyperthyroidism, and etc.

Avatar n tn I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
Avatar f tn I started having a tremor problem when I was 18 and I am now 28. At 18 I was referred to a Neurologist and I was told I had Essential Tremor and he put me on meds. They never worked very well and I went off of them about 7 months later. I have tremors all the time and then sometimes it does not seem like I really have them at all and then sometimes I get like an attack of them and it feels so strange, I just am sitting there and they start on really strong.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Essential tremor is a type of involuntary shaking movement where no cause can be identified. The specific cause is unknown and could be due to cerebellum getting affected. This can also occur with dystonias, Parkinsonism, etc. certain symptoms could be head nodding, shaking of sound if tremor affects the voice box. Usually these are seen when you move and may worsen with stress, caffeine, drugs. You need to consult a neurologist for assessment.
3144747 tn?1343049136 I am a 69 yo female in excellent health. I have had a tremor in both hands with the left being more pronounced. My mother, one daughter, and 12 yo grandson suffer also with this. I have been on Propanolol for over 25 years. Doses varying....always trying to decrease the need. Probably about 5 times I have tried to discontinue it but wind up going back on because I am unable to function. Experiencing tachycardia, entire body feeling internally tremulous and hand tremors more severe.

Avatar f tn Reason being that if the physical symptoms go away, then the anxiety does too. (Propranolol is prescribed for people who have essential tremor. Some times these people who have the tremor become anxious because of it. Once the tremor is gone, generally by taking the beta blocker, then the anxiety goes too.) This is not the case with everyone as it was not with me, that's for sure. It is very common to prescribe the two together.
687729 tn?1397992727 I have been taking Klonopin and Propranolol for years, being treated for a benign tremor and migraines. I'm tired of feeling dopey all the time and I have quit the Klonopin and cut my Propranolol dosage in half. I've been getting leg cramps and headaches (not full-blown migraines, but nagging headaches that make me want to go back on the Klonopin). Can I expect these symptoms to disappear?
Avatar n tn I read Sertraline reacts with Propranolol. It makes Propranolol more toxic and can give me low BP and bradycardia. Recently my BP was a bit high (140/90) and pulse rate was 72. Shall I take the psychiatric medicines and how should I schedule the medications without suffering a lot?
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar n tn The shakes could very well be an essential tremor. I have it too. It is far worse when in a social situation or when doing a task like cutting veggies or writing, not all the time, but sometimes. The typical treatment for this is propranolol (a beta blocker) and if there is anxiety along with it, then clonazepam too.
1011655 tn?1251599945 I can often feel my heart beating but the beat seems regular (no arythmias) and not faster than normal. If I let the tremor continue for 12 hours or so I end up with a headache. Propranolol kills the tremor. Xanex doesn't help much. My mood doesn't seem to affect it. Stressful events don't seem to trigger the tremor yet it can be present when I feel calm or happy. When I stop exercising for a few days the tremor seems to grow much weaker.
1374503 tn?1278719661 One may have trouble holding spoon or small objects, difficulty in writing, drawing, drinking from a cup and hence usually action related tremor. Your neurologist needs to assess you clinically any certain investigations if required like blood tests and MRI brain and spine. Treatment would include medicines like propranolol, primidone etc. hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn I've been taking 20mg of propranolol twice a day for about 2 weeks now and haven't noticed any improvement in my tremors. Does it have to build up in your system or should it start working instantly after the first time you take it, or maybe I'm on a low dose?
1710414 tn?1308172199 Treatment may include propranolol or other beta-blockers and primidone, dystonic tremor may respond to drugs like clonazepam, anticholinergics, etc. triggers need to be verified and avoided like caffeine, physical therapy helps reducing tremor and improves coordination and muscle control. Consult a neurologist for best advice and therapy.
