Avatar m tn Which is better for follow up for hyperthyroidism? Is it TSH or FT4. I have Graves’ disease for over 10 years and am currently on carbimazole 5 mg and Propranalol 5 mg once a day. Recent reports show TSH < 0.01 and FT4 as 21.1 ( normal range 9-21).
Avatar f tn There are two medications for hyperthyroid. I was on tapazole for 20 years and am on PTU now. PTU is much better. I am now considering a partial thyroid removal.
Avatar f tn Let me explain those tests first. Our thyroids make predominantly T4, but a little bit of T3. The rest of the T3 we need comes from conversion of T4 to T3 at various sites throughout the body. T4 is a "storage" form of the hormones. It basically floats around in the blood stream until cells need thyroid hormone. At that time, T4 is converted to T3, which is the "active" form of the thyroid hormones. It's also the one that correlates best with symptoms.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 year old male and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I also had several episodes of panic attacks. After 4 months of treatment with carbimazole & propranolol, I am now clinically euthyroid and there's no more panic attacks & tachycardia. I have been doing brisk walking for last one month. I started slowly, but now I walk briskly on plain surface, slopes and stairs. I walk approx 2 miles everyday for 45 minutes. I have been still advised to be on Carbimazole 20 mg.
1413042 tn?1281770262 The endo has asked for another blood test in 2 weeks time. So, should I discontinue Propranolol or take it for 2 more weeks? Or try to wean off? Would there be any adverse effects if I stop it now? How much heart rate & BP is reduced by Propranolol? Will I get hypotension if I continue with Propranolol? Please suggest.

Avatar n tn t go away as I will need to take Propranolol to control my symptoms. I have been taking Methimazole for 2 solid months and I wonder how long it will get adjusted.
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.

Avatar f tn however, my new endocrinologist told me that it was an anxiety disorder and that while all the tests (TSH, free T3 and T4) showed mild hyperthyroidism (I do not test positive for Grave’s), my results were inconclusive because I was on the pill. My questions are: Is this all psychological or is there a possibility that a person can be this affected by mild hyperthyroidism? Also, do you have any ideas as to why I might fluctuate in and out of normal every few months?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Grave's hyperthyroid two month's ago. The Endocrinologist has put me on 40mg Methimazole, which is crashing my WBC's and elevating liver enzymes. Apparently I have to be on this medication for quite some time. My lab values, after only 4 weeks, are insane, and T3, T4 still very high. I find this a highly toxic drug (for me). Even so, if I could handle taking it to the euthyroid state, I'm against RI or surgery.
Avatar f tn In May 2010, my family doctor sent me to an endocrinologist after blood tests showed decreasing TSH and I had had some symptoms of hyperthyroidism for several months prior. The endocrinologist found a nodule, and did a scan which indicated it was hot. He also ran the antibodies test for Graves which came back negative. Listed below are my lab results (2 different labs) and medications: LAB RANGE: TSH 0.34 – 4.82 mU / L Mar 6.10 TSH - .01 LAB RANGE: TSH 0.38 – 5.

Avatar n tn To find a well informed answer to your query about the Sertraline-Propranolol combination, you need to look for information/evidence according to the hierarchy. A systematic review (a review of a number of studies exploring the same issue) is considered the best as far as strength of evidence is concerned. Clinicians' experience, case reports and non-journal articles are lower level sources of evidence.
Avatar f tn i was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the dr.s told me that that was my magor reason why i coudnt get pregnant, now they just gave propanolol 20mg i want to know if this medication helps my thyroid hormones in its level it sopost to be and if it can help me get pregnant?
2899052 tn?1436831245 Treatment is, often, for 12-18 months, typically, not for life and the longer you take the medication, the more likely to have adverse effects. One of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism is a condition called Thyroid Eye Disease (TED)... From what I know, it's more prevalent in those not treated with RAI than in those that have treated with RAI. Again, though, no one can guarantee that you can't/won't get it. Surgery is an option that some people opt for over RAI...
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar f tn There are many articles online on natural treatments for hyperthyroidism but you may need anti thyroid drugs. Radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy is not a first line treatment as the risk of permanent hypothyroidism is around 90%.
Avatar m tn These are usually intention tremors and other causes which need ruling out is alcohol withdrawal, hyperthyroidism, and etc. Treatment would include medicines like propranolol, which blocks adrenaline related neurotransmitters, and primidone which is an antiseizure drug. Consult your neurologist for the indication of therapy and the relevant treatment should be given if indicated. Take care.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last august and have been on propranolol and methimazole since. I was taking four methimazole and now my specialist increased it to 5 and that really makes me sad. I'm gaining weight and feel so awful about myself. Yes i am feeling better which is worth alot but my hot flashes are insane. My pituitary gland is what the specialist refers to as "sleeping" and so I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to wake it up.
Avatar m tn After switching from Tapazole to PTU + anti-histhamine, which did nothing to help the hives and itch. The doctor is asking to stop taking propranolol which he suspects is the cause. The thing is propranolol has been keeping my heart from beating like crazy all this time and to stop it completely is a bit risky don't you think? Just wondering has anyone ever had propranolol causing hives? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn About a month ago, i was hospitalized for A-Fib since i had been off of my medication for a while... So they prescribed my meds and a month later, my doctor ran some tests... Well, I just got back from getting the results and am totally confused. He said that my thyroiditis is autoimmune as well as Hashimoto's and hyperthyroidism... I have tried to look it up but all i can find is that Hashimoto's leads to hypothyridism rather than hyper...
Avatar n tn I am a young woman recently diagnosed with hyperthyoidism, likely Graves' disease. This disorder has probably been going on for 3-4 years as I have had tremor for that long & I have goiter. I have had resting tachycardia with arrythmia for at least 6 months, and at the same time I developed an intermittent heavy feeling in my chest (at the sternum, and slightly to the right). I was put on propranolol 100mg due to the tachycardia, at which time the chest feeling became constant.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar f tn Hello.. My mother is suffering from hyperthyroidism. Her doctor is prescribing methimazole and propanolol tabs . One dose of propanolol in the morning after breakfast and one dose of methimazole 3 times a day before meals. I just want to ask that "is it safe to have radio-iodine ablation treatment as a permanent solution for hyperthyroidism?" Or like u said that it might cause hypothyroidism?
