1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar n tn Well, its most common use is for anxiety - which is fairly common for people with ADHD. You can read more about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propranolol What I don't understand is why your doctor didn't explain this to you. Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.
Avatar n tn If the same doctor prescribed both these medications for you, then you can trust it's safe to take them together.......but you must read the labels! Sometimes "together" doesn't mean "at the same time." Some meds need to be taken with food and some on an empty stomach, some in the morning and some at night. If you have any questions about how to take these meds, call your doctor or pharmacist for the correct dosing schedule.
Avatar f tn s a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED. I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP.
Avatar m tn i have been put on beta blockers propranolol 40 mg three times a day for benign ventricular ectopic beats and anxiety. im just not sure what times i should take them. how many hours do i need to wait to take another.
709686 tn?1277432159 Beta blockers have been prescribed for anxiety for a long time. As someone above mentioned, they are especially effective in social anxiety situations...ie before speaking in front of a large group, etc. In that scenario, a person takes one about 30 min-1 hour before the event. A regular dosing of these types of meds (Inderal is one that is commonly Rxed) can also be very useful in combatting anxiety on a daily basis.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar f tn So, I started researching it and have found that it is not generally used for someone with generalized anxiety but usually for those that have anxiety in certain situations. I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Propanolol is given for a variety of reasons to include anxiety, tremors, migraines, high BP, angina and others. It can cause some odd feelings when first starting it. I don't understand this being prescribed to you for your symptoms. The Codamol is a pain reliever, but it soundsa like you needed an antibiotic. I doubt that you would be feeling any effects after two weeks from these two drugs but we never know.
Avatar n tn To find a well informed answer to your query about the Sertraline-Propranolol combination, you need to look for information/evidence according to the hierarchy. A systematic review (a review of a number of studies exploring the same issue) is considered the best as far as strength of evidence is concerned. Clinicians' experience, case reports and non-journal articles are lower level sources of evidence.
Avatar n tn t think this will be enough for my presentation. I talked to my doctor and got a .25mg prescription for Xanax. Does anyone here have experience combining the two? Was it more effective than propanolol alone? How long before my presentation should I take both pills? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Anyone knows the dosage of propranolol (inderal) for a 37 year old for the purpose of relieving the symptoms asociated with anxiety (shaky hands and trembling voice) that is to be taken 1 hour before the anxiety provoking situation?
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 19 year old and I am being treated for anxiety and I'm always stressed out about my health and thinking I have a serious illness and thinking I'm going to die. My doctor put me on propranolol/beta blockers on 16/04/2014 which was last month. Sometimes I was missing them and only taking 1-2 day. What I was wondering is people that have been or are stressed or been on propranolol have they had problems with their period?
Avatar n tn I also take the Propranolol twice a day for my heart. The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
1504778 tn?1321394645 Hey I take propranolol 10mg for my heart the doctor said one in the morning and one in the evening I'd usually take one around 10am . And then at 6pm-6.30pm. I woke up late today and took my first pill at 12pm what should I do? Take my next pill around 6.30 like I normally would?
Avatar f tn I slowly got off propranolol 2 weeks ago after my surgery for hyperthyroid and after i did i starting getting really bad anxiety attacks, this whole week has been horrible, from day to night i havnt been able to relax. How long does it take for someones body to adjust off being used to propranolol? Any one else have this problem?
Avatar f tn There has to be a generic form of Toprol XL. Here, the generic form has been around for ages. I remember my dad was taking it for angina for years. It was always the generic version, as far as I can remember. Now, after surgery he is only taking 25 mg, but it's still generic. In my honest opinion, Metoprolol is not the best medication. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and may have side effects like lethargy and tiredness, as well as sleeplessness at night.
Avatar n tn The top four benzo, altering doses as needed. I also was a medication aide for people like me and had to administer anxiety meds as needed for others at a group home I worked at. Currently I am getting 90 valium a month, three a day as needed. Does it work? Honestly, I don't think so, but I am sure it prevents escalating or has some unknown benefit. Valium is a long lasting benzo, Short stuff won't protect a job. Marijuana has yet to fail me.
Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Grave's hyperthyroid two month's ago. The Endocrinologist has put me on 40mg Methimazole, which is crashing my WBC's and elevating liver enzymes. Apparently I have to be on this medication for quite some time. My lab values, after only 4 weeks, are insane, and T3, T4 still very high. I find this a highly toxic drug (for me). Even so, if I could handle taking it to the euthyroid state, I'm against RI or surgery.
4155003 tn?1351614311 Cocaine combined with propranolol is life threatening. Propranolol is blocking the ability for blood vessels to dilate and the effect is a so-called unopposed alpha activity, which causes constricted blood vessels and extremely high blood pressure (strokes and heart attacks). The heart rate can also get dangerously slow in response (compensatory bradycardia). Stopping taking propranolol just to go out and take cocaine sounds like a very bad idea.
10610562 tn?1411418414 I was put on propranolol to reduce the heart rate, as well to possible help with my anxiety and panic. This medication worked really well for me. It helped ease my mind, enough to where I felt more comfortable leaving the house and being productive. It completely got rid of my embarrassingly shaky hands. I was so happy. Then, I noticed my asthma was being severely effected.
Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar n tn I am now taking propranolol for my anxiety, and it is doing wonders. Been on it for 4 months now and have not had a panic attack in that time. Not only that, but my hands don't shake like a 90 year old man anymore, and I feel much more at peace. Only problem is it is messing with my asthma that I have had my whole life, 28 year old male by the way.
