Avatar n tn My grandmother on my moms side is the only relative who has experienced hair loss. Finally, it appears to thinning everywhere (though much worse in the temple area) and no chunks are missing. From this, I had pretty much concluded I had telogen effluvium. Now, I have already seen a dermatologist for this.
Avatar n tn There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged. You may try discontinuing the pill when you are trying to get pregnant. Give your hair extra nourishment and take a balanced diet.
Avatar n tn It is best to discuss your concerns with a dermatologist. It has been seen that women who have hair loss caused by stopping the pill may benefit from a low androgen index birth control pill like Orthtricyclen. It is best to clarify your concerns with a gynecologist and dermatologist. Only after knowing your complete medical history a suitable pill can be suggested. I sincerely hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!

Avatar m tn Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. In male-pattern baldness, hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head. Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine.
Avatar m tn I went to a dermatologist and she put me on propecia for the hair loss. I also took a blood test and said my iron was low. But other then that I my blood was normal. Is it possible they ran certain tests on my blood and not others which maybe why I am misdiagnosed. I have a follow up in late july. I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease?
Avatar n tn Also get your husband’s sperm count done. Propecia is known to cause impotence, abnormal ejaculation, loss of sex drive and pain in testicles. However its effect on sperm is not reported. “Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use PROPECIA and should not handle crushed or broken PROPECIA tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a male baby's sex organs.

Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.

Avatar n tn About three months ago I started taking propecia because I thought my hair was falling out too young. I experienced several side effects from the drug including total loss of sex drive, difficulty maintaining erections, loss of spontaneous erections/morning erections. I stopped taking propecia within 3 weeks due to an inability to deal with these side effects. Things seemed to be slowly getting slightly better as the weeks and months progressed however now some new issues have been arising.
Avatar n tn If this were me, I would stay on the BC for now, then stop the BC and simply say bye-bye- to my hair when I wanted a baby, because, in my opinion, becoming a mother is alot more important than hair. After the birth of my baby, I would resume the BC, and then have my hair back.

Avatar n tn I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.
Avatar f tn Both Alesse and Yasmin are good for PCOS. I have been prescribed both by different PCOS specialists. I've been told that Yasmin (in combination with aldactone and propecia) is particularly good for combatting hair loss. Depending on your symptoms, you should go with the one that makes you feel best.
Avatar n tn I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when -the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT -Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT DHT causes hair loss I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.

Avatar n tn In the last 5-6 months I have had unprotected oral sex (receiving) with 3 women and protected (condom) intercourse with 3 sex workers with some kissing. I am also on propecia medication for hair loss for the past 4 months. I also have a tendency to get anxiety. My fear is that I might have contracted an STD.
