Avatar n tn My son was in the NICU the first few days of his life because he had a low heart rate (the lowest was 90). Although his heart rate stabilized in a few hours his EKG showed he had a prolonged qt interval. The cardiologist said it was caused by a medication I had been taking throughout my pregnancy. At the hospital they did three EKGs. I just obtained his medical records today and im very confused.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure if I am doing this correctly. I am trying to post this in the expert forum. I hope this works! Here is my question. I'm sorry it is sooo long! My son was in the NICU the first few days of his life because he had a low heart rate (the lowest was 90). 920032 tn?1550680156 I sympathize with your issues on finding meds that work. I also cannot take the dry powders. The technique for using them is different than other inhalers. If your doctor didn't train you well on how to use them, that could be part of the problem you had. Also, the fact that they are powder and the powder settles on the vocal cords and other parts of the respiratory tract causes irritation. That makes me cough constantly as well.
Avatar n tn If you are a man a QTc of 450 is considered prolonged with Long QT Syndrome being able to be diagnosed with a QTc of 470 and if you are a woman a QTc of 460 is considered prolonged and a QTc of 480 makes it possible to diagnose Long QT Syndrome. There is a small % of the normal population that can have a QTc as high as 480 but that is for an experienced EP to determine.
Avatar n tn It was the EP dr who read the ekg while I was in his office. He requested that I wear a holter monitor for 24 hours but haven't gotten results back yet. I am assuming no news is good news. Today, I went to my cardio's office for my weekly ekg and QT / QTc intervals was within normal limits. Can QT / QTc intervals be prolonged one time and normal the next time? I have had three prolonged intervals in the past 6 months but also several normal ones.
Avatar n tn address any stomach issues especially acid reflux and gerd and manage stress and anxiety. Unfortunately once we start getting premature beats we are susceptible to always getting them but managing the big triggers can help lessen the impact they have on us. Take care.
Avatar m tn Under 500 qtc and/or long qt without symptoms is no problem
Avatar f tn Also, as others have mentioned, a prolonged QTc can be caused by electrolyte imbalances and some people have a borderline high QTc but dint actually have LQTS. I know its hard, but try not to worry at this point because there are a lot of different things that could be going on. Following up with a specialist is the right thing to do. Also, keep in mind that if you do happen to be one of the rare cases of LQTS, the syndrome is highly treatable!
Avatar m tn Once I panicked when they connected the electrodes, had a heart rate of 130 and a weird QTc interval (fairly long). And as you can see from the ECG on my profile page, my QT is not prolonged at all, rather on the short side.
Avatar n tn The first EKG showed a QTc of 485 (0 days old), the second (1 day old) showed a QTc of 449, and the third (2 days old) showed a QTc of 459. The notes say the first EKG shows prolonged QT and the notes from the second day say, "repeat EKG shows QTC still prolonged" and the third note says his EKG is normal???? Why is 459 normal when it is longer than 449 which was considered prolonged? Is the range for a 1 day old baby different from that of a two day old? Maybe i am reading it wrong?
Avatar f tn The graph looks incredibly noisy and as mentioned above, the prolonged QTc could very well be an error/artifact. Everything else looks great.
Avatar f tn On one of them the QTC interval was normal at 450 ms and was done when I woke up from a nap. The one with the prolonged QTC interval was done when I was feeling unwell( experiencing the palpitations) and was done the day before I was discharged. I have never fainted before but I get a lot of head rushes when I stand up. None of my family members faint either. I made a follow up with my GP to address the ECG reading.
Avatar f tn The QT interval varies with the heart rate and the faster the rate the shorter the QT and with slow heart rates the QT prolongs. However 695 is distinctly abnormal and clearly requires further workup. As mentioned drugs can also alter the QT interval. At slow heart rates --in the 40's the QT can approach 500 msec in normal women.
Avatar f tn But if you have a family history of sudden cardiac death then you should be screened more thoroughly. A QTc of 488 is prolonged and there could be the risk of Torsades de Pointe (a type of VT). Sometimes people with Long QT Syndrome only find out after they take one of the QT prolonging medications. People without the syndrome will only have QT prolongation while they take the medications and then QT returns to normal after stopping the medication. Go with your instincts and demand answers.
Avatar f tn It found ~850 PVCs, ~10 PACs, and one couplet. However, the Holter report did not mention the QTc interval. I will be asking my doctor for further results, but is it possible that the panic attack caused the high QTc interval? I have been reading about Long QT Syndrome and am terrified of it. I have never had a fainting episode, but am still scared. I plan on making an appointment with another cardiologist tomorrow for a second opinion.
Avatar m tn Diagnosing LQTS in a patient with a borderline QTc (440 ms to 460 ms) is difficult and further testing is usually needed to determine whether the patient has QT prolongation and congenital LQTS. Factors that can increase the probability of having LQTS include resting ECG findings (specially QTc ≥480 ms), treadmill exercise test findings, history of recovered sudden death, syncope (passing out) with or without exercise, family history of LQTS or sudden death.
