Pristiq and prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq and prozac

pristiq

Avatar n tn Should I keep taking Pristiq and hope that my weight will stop increasing at some point, and take all the laxative paraphernalia, which I read is also bad for your digestive system if you take it for a long time, or should I stay with 80 mg Prozac and wait to see if I get results? Is it dangerous to change abruptly to Pristiq after 2 weeks of 80 mg Prozac? I have read Prozac stays in your system for over a week, and am concerned that Pristiq will cause serotonin syndrome.
Avatar n tn with meds it's always trial& error i take zoloft 50mg/day for anxiety and depression i took prozac in '94 and it was not for me people respond differently to meds what might work for me might not work for you.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg. The first week I took 30mg Cymbalta then 2nd week and since, no Cymbalta and only Pristiq (still taking buspar & Xanax prn) I feel I'm noticing small improvements in the past cpl weeks but not back to normal. Today is a rough day with anxiety/adrenaline/agitation. I so want outta this hole and praying it works for me. Anyone else have success switching to Pristiq? Would like to hear how long it took for ppl to notice a difference.
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
Avatar n tn t know until you try. The least problematic are probably Prozac, and then Lexapro, but even Lexapro has been known to cause significant weight gain and Prozac isn't usually that great for anxiety, but who knows? They're weird, these drugs, and affect everyone differently.
Avatar f tn I have just started taking Pristiq after being on Effexor-XR for a long time and I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any good experiences with Pristiq, and if so could they please share them?
Avatar f tn I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
1489588 tn?1303998295 When I take Savella and Pristiq together, it works wonders. When both my pain dr and my psychiatrist got together and said I couldn't take them together, I became very depressed after getting off of Savella. I didn't want to kill myself, but I sure didn't want to live. Lyrica put me to sleep in horrible ways, Cymbalta doesn't work for me and anything like Prozac or Lexapro or Zoloft is candy to me. I also take Norco.
Avatar m tn Some SNRI's and SSRI's are addictive and the withdrawl symptoms can be terrible but some of the Benzos are even worse,You have to find the right balance and that's where trial and error come into it.I have heard so many bad things about prozac and zoloft, but for some people it works for them.
Avatar f tn If you are looking for names there is Prozac, pristiq, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, cymbalta, etc.... Just speak with your doctor first.
Avatar m tn those are hardcore meds and can lead to bad withdrawls. Lexapro and Pristiq arent that addicting. Talk to a psychiatrist...they are a therapist who is allowed to perscribe meds. They will be the most knowledgeable (more so than a regular doctor) and will be able to guide you better. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I think you did the right thing by refusing Pristiq. They can not guarantee that the samples won't run out. Have you given Lexapro a try? I'm getting ready to start back on it after getting of Zoloft. I did terrible on that med. Some people do very well on it though. I see that you did not. Like the above posters have said, there are other meds to choose from to help your anxiety. You might do well on Prozac. I would ask to be started on a very low dose though.
Avatar f tn I have an appt with the dr today. I am only taking the Pristiq and .5mg of Xanax now and am not much better. He told me to stop the Prozac on Monday. I certainly will see another dr. I have to go back to work today or risk losing my job. Wish me luck.
Avatar m tn I am taking Pristiq and not sure if it helps or not. I was taking Eflexor 225 mg daily and this pristiq is only 50 mg. The withdrawal from Eflexor was terrible. Had nightmares and felt like I was fading away while trying to fall asleep. What does low magnesium have to do with depression? Never heard of that before. Can you get this over the counter?
Avatar f tn I am kind of the exception because I am medication resistant and my depression and anxiety is a tough nut to crack. I am currently on a Pristiq, Lamictal and Lithium combination and it seems to be working ok, but the add on of the Lamictal and lithium is only in it's second week so I should know more later on it's effectivness. Are you disagnosed as Bi-polar 1? I am diagnosed as Bi-polar (NOS) Not Otherwise specified.
Avatar f tn I decided to try a medication where I was not so controlled. Right now I am off of pristiq and abilify and with only Wellbutrin and Klonoplin I am adding viibryd. So far I feel worse for the wear with the nausea and all but don't want to give up just yet ( only the first week). If this does not work I will try just the Wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn t want to try anything like that and then he tried Effexor and I only took a few of those and it made me worse... no im on pristiq and I don't really know why. He insisted that I take this one tho. I even said do you think we could try Prozac on a very low dose and he said no he wanted me to do this one... I don't know why????
Avatar f tn I want to know if anyone has switched safely from Cymbalta to Prozac? I was previously on Prozac for a couple of years and my dr. & I believed that it had stopped being as effective. I changed to Cymbalta with great results. However, I am starting to believe that it is no longer working and am considering changing back to Prozac. Has anyone else had trouble with the drugs effects tapering off like that? And if so, how do I go about safely making the change?
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
190673 tn?1259203266 I have been taking Effexor XR 450mg and Buproprion 450mg for a couple of years. I'm weaning off the Effexor, going onto Pristiq and continuing the Buproprion.
Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old female. Post menopause and on hormones. Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?
Avatar m tn I'm thinking about talking to my PCP about going back on an anti-depressant medication. My dysthymia (chronic depression) is getting the best of me, and I'm nearly to the point that I don't really want to do anything anymore. I've taken Effexor in the past, and it seemed to work well for me, but I really don't like the sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn Being on Pristiq and Zyprexa has kept my depression in check, but I have low energy and no motivation to do anything. Any ideas as to how to get my energy and motivation back?
Avatar m tn Once that catalyst was removed, I weaned off the Ptistiq by first lowering to 25 mg Pristiq and adding a low dose of Prozac for 2 weeks. During this time I felt mild brain zaps and a little dizziness for a couple days. I stayed on the Prozac for a week after stopping the Pristiq all together and then weaned off the Prozac all together. It was a very mild withdrawal compared to weaning off Effexor and Zoloft in the past.
Avatar m tn Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.
Avatar n tn I too have a lengthy history with antidepressants. I take it that the ones you've used in the past just didin'tt cut it for you any longer? I had bad side effects from all the SSRI's I tried and prozac was one of them. It's hard to tell if you are experiencing side effects too or just the symptoms of anxiety/depression. These effects may very well subside with time on the medicine.
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
