Avatar f tn , and after she found out I drink wine on a regular basis (10 drinks a week) she wants to pull me off of Cymbalta due to the liver implications and the other medication I am on. I do NOT have any liver function problems as my enzymes were tested in the fall when I was on Diltiazam for my BP and my Mitral Valve Prolapse. Now Psych is putting me on Prestique and I hope it works as well and doesn't harm my liver. Does anyone have experience with Pristique?
Avatar f tn I was on 100mg per day for 4 years, then have reduced it myself to 25mg a day. The liver enzymes were still elevated and and an ultrasound showed fatty liver disease. There is no scarring, and don't want there to be. The odd thing is that I tried a couple of generics and they went down. The generic did not do the job, so I switched back to name brand. I have gained 14 pounds in the 6-7 months I have been on the name brand Pristiq again, and the enzymes went up a bit.
Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq and/or Effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than Effexor. Thoughts?
1032715 tn?1315984234 Keep drinking and using and it will eventually give up. I had high readings and was hospitalised for liver damage but it eventually recovered after I stopped drinking. Worrying about it is a futile act, stick to your recovery plan, don’t drink or use and when the time comes have the necessary tests then deal with things as your doctor recommends.
Avatar f tn "Can you get Cirrhosis of the liver with painkiller and sleeping tablet addiction?? " Painkillers and sleeping tablets will not cause Cirrhosis of the liver. Other medications like certain anti-fungals can. Certain medications can cause further harm if you already have some form of liver disease.

Avatar f tn I had an aunt who died from liver cancer and her liver function tests were normal until the end stages. However, it is common to have cysts in the liver and fatty areas that aren't a problem. When I was dx they found a hemangioma in my liver and another cyst and there were two cysts in my kidneys. Before my surgery, I thought this must indicate cancer had spread there only to find out that most of us do have some sort of cyst congenitally or as we age. My dr.
Avatar m tn They say that Milk Thissel helps clean the liver and their are other natural liver cleansers, but I would check with your doctor before using these. Glad your numbers are returning to normal and this has been a wake up call.
Business man3 What supplements or other over the counter meds would you suggest to help improve my liver function? Also i think you should know i have had this disease for only two years now. Thank you.
678069 tn?1254422777 Well, not only did my latest bloodwork show all my blood counts are good, but my liver function is now NORMAL!! Are you kidding me?? Its been a long time since that was the case. I couldnt believe it when my Dr said it. I could definitely get used to hearing that! Add to all that the fact that my side effects are minimal. The only thing I deal with on a regular basis is mild fevers. But Advil usually takes care of it.
1032715 tn?1315984234 I've got the results back of my liver function test,It has gone from 116 to 35 in 3 months,Doctors over the moon more excited than me I think.
Avatar n tn My GGT on my Liver Function Test is very high. I am taking Phentoins for epilsepy and wonder if this is the cause.
Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old female. Post menopause and on hormones. Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?
Avatar n tn I have been on Pristiq 100mg for 3 months, Wellbutrin 150mg for 5 weeks and we added Strattera 40mg. Pristiq for PMDD, Wellbutrin for motivation and Strattera for focus. Separately they help each thing only. So was wondering if anyone else is on a combo like this and it’s helped. And how long. I seem to be anxious more lately before adding Strattera....hoping this helps it. No libido what so ever.
Avatar m tn Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.
Avatar f tn t know that it was a anxiety symtom before so i kept ignoring it but the main thing when i was on my way to home at night n i got a pain in my abdomen (it was mild though) i thould it was nothing but a normal upset stomach i went to the doctor he told to get me a kidney function test , complete blood count , liver function test , vitamin d test and b12 test etc, everything came normal except the vitamin d and the b12 my vitamin d was 21 and b12 was border line 240 ( it should be between 200-90
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. So a little backstory first. I was diagnosed with Graves disease back in 2013-2014. I was put on the methimazole + beta blocker treatment. I went into remission around 2016, when all my labs were normal. So I stopped the meds. Then, March of 2018, Graves was back with a vengeance. All the telltale signs were back, the excessive heat and heart palpitations, I went back to the doctor and back on drug treatment. This time, however, the meds doesn't work whatsoever.
Avatar n tn I called the pdoc back and he's having me take a 75 effexor xr and my pristiq 50---I guess a ween off of it, no more brain zaps for now, I dont know what will happen after I stop taking effexor all together, we shall see in a few weeks. As for the comment above, I too have seen people have to pay out of pocket for perscriptions and its usually elderly and people like me, who had been laid off and take medications and are put into a situation of having to pay out of pocket, what to do?
Avatar m tn x 2, milk thistle 1000 mg x 2, probiotic Acidophilus 10 mg x 2, selenium 200 mcg x 2, melatonin 3 mg once a day,pristiq 50 mg once a day, and mens formula 1@day x 2.
Avatar f tn I really dont feel depressed at all,I feel ok when i had my clonazepan dosage, but what if I become an addict, how can I start taking pristiq and not being scared? Like I said above , i feel more anxious and panic than depressed. So Pristiq will work with my anxiety? What about Clonazepan withdrawals?
Avatar m tn She said that while pristiq can cause hypersensitivity in other areas, she has never heard of a side effect like the one I was experiencing. She said that pain and pleasure function similarly so it might be possible. Finally she suggested perhaps I should switch to effexor, and that I should contact Pfizer. I called the Pfizer line for medical concerns and reporting side effects.
Avatar f tn I had a liver function done before I started Suboxone and then again when I was half way finished with it. Suboxone is very hard on your liver.
1326572 tn?1275500911 I have early RA, just got the latest blood work back. My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
Avatar m tn I am taking Pristiq and not sure if it helps or not. I was taking Eflexor 225 mg daily and this pristiq is only 50 mg. The withdrawal from Eflexor was terrible. Had nightmares and felt like I was fading away while trying to fall asleep. What does low magnesium have to do with depression? Never heard of that before. Can you get this over the counter?
Avatar n tn In the past I have been able to take .5mg in the morning and 1/2 of a .5 in the afternoon and was ok to function for work and home for the most part. I also have thyroid issues. After doing DNA testing my psyc decided she wanted to take me off of Celexa because my body wasn't metabolizing the drug properly. (It wasn't in the red, but in the yellow). I only had 4 anti-depressants that I tested to metabolize properly. Since July we have tried 2 of those, Pristiq and Zoloft.
Avatar m tn Hi, I just received my liver function test and am concerned. I am a social drinker who has no more than 2 glasses of wine maybe 4x a week (no hard liquor). My test results were GGT 105; ALT 154: AST 80...What does this indicate? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/234245'>slightly elevated alt ast</a>.
Avatar f tn From what I have read and heard from almost every doctor most antidepressants are safe for the liver. There are noted dose changes for people with liver disease on some of the drugs but overall they are safe. However anyone can react to a drug diffrent than others have, so a follow up blood test is always recommended. I do however know of one drug, Cymbalta, has been flaged by the FDA as not safe for anyone with liver disease.
