Pristiq and high cholesterol

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq and high cholesterol

pristiq

Avatar f tn Well, Effexor is almost identical to Pristiq -- same manufacturer, a little different structure.
Avatar m tn s no allowed maximums, just recommendations based on the limited studies the manufacturers do to get FDA approval and a patent. I know Effexor has a high side effect profile and is difficult to get off of, Pristiq is said to be easier, but I don't know since I haven't taken them and even if I had, that wouldn't say anything about what your experience is likely to be. That can't be predicted.
Avatar m tn Is his cholesterol high? another possible side effect of Pristiq. In people where cholesterol is high, co-enzyme q10 tends to be lower than average and this exists in all cells for the production of energy. I think he needs lots of in depth blood analysis done. Have they recommended a stress echo or anything to see if anything obvious is occurring under stress?
Avatar m tn It has raised my blood pressure and my cholesterol, I have horrible sweating with it now they want me to take coreg, and pravachol. When I was on effexor I had rls so bad I had to take sinemet to relieve the discomfort. Has anyone else noticed that if they take other meds when taking pristiq it doesnt work. I really need my calcium but am afraid to take it because I get depressed again when I do.
Avatar f tn They retested this past Thursday & the ALT/AST were even higher. I hardly drink alcohol & have not at all since I saw my tests results...so it's not from that. And all I take is Pristiq daily. They are doing a hep panel to check that...but that's just what they do when enzymes are up & need to see a GI doc. I've read Pristiq is uncommon to raise enzymes level...but I'm starting to wonder. I only started that back in February...& the enzymes keep going up.
1326513 tn?1276518001 i agree with mmahon, you are recovering from high anxiety and your body is finally resting and healing itself, sleep is good :)
6726276 tn?1421126668 m now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.
1185172 tn?1264284610 Has anyone with pre existing hypertension & fibro tried savella? If so, has your bp spiked at all? I'm afraid to try it for that reason. I took Pristiq for about 4 weeks and my blood pressure which was well under control went out of control, so I had to get off the medicine. I know it works in the same ways, and I know everyone is different, I'm just checking. I previously tried Lyrica & Cymbalta, which both made me feel worse than I did with the Fibro and Fatigue.
Avatar f tn I was taking Savella 50mgs twice daily and blood pressure went to 180/100.Stopped it and went on Pristiq 50mgs once daily.Went to Dr. and blood pressure was 179/93.Are these meds casuing this?I have always had normal blood pressure.I am obese and have family history of high blood pressure.I have taken cymbalta and quite a few years ago took effexor xr and didn't have any probelms with blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
1450085 tn?1298941702 Pristiq and Effexor are essentially the same medication, so the switch should be relatively easy, and save you some money, too. I'm not sure I understand the switch, because Pristiq is the new Effexor, so if it isn't for financial reasons, kind of hard to see the point of going through it. Certainly some people have different reactions to them, and so just because Pristiq works also doesn't guarantee Effexor will work, and it might work better, who knows.
759115 tn?1256997490 My mom's taking Pristiq and she feels that it has fewer negative side effects and does a better job controlling the depression than Cymbalta and Lexapro.
Avatar m tn My doctor told me that my cholerestrol is to high but when I did all the ratios they were excellent. I have a very high HDL but also a high LDL and I have been on thyroid medicine for 30 years. Is there a cooralation?
506273 tn?1260138781 Just got back from the pdoc. He prescribed Pristiq 50 mgs. Says I "can" go as high as 400, but of course we are starting slow. Anyone have any reactions good or bad with this? He did tell me I won't feel anything probably 3-4 weeks, so I'm pretty anxious to get this started. I am also on xanax, seroquel, and he just prescribed Lunesta because I haven't been sleeping and have had no luck with ambien.
606378 tn?1297304964 I had a horrible experience with Pristiq. I would suggest that if you do decide to take it that you become aware of all the possible side effects and if you begin to have any side effects, contact your doctor right away. I took Pristiq for about 3 1/2 weeks. My doctor did not warn me of possible side effects and I didn't read about possible side effects early on. At first, I didn't notice anything unusual. I actually thought the drug might be helping a little.
Avatar f tn I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.
455167 tn?1259257871 m taking 50mg pristiq and 75 mg effexor daily for 7 days, and then 50mg pristiq and 37.5mg effexor for the next 7 days. My therapist has suggested this dosing to make the transition gradual. I was just curious as to anyone elses experience with such a change, good or bad.

Avatar n tn My total cholesterol was 548 2 months ago increased synthroid from 50 to 100 now cholesterol is 240 and we have increased synthroid to 125.No cholesterol pills just synthrois increase. Good Luck.My blood pressure is high as well. I have hypo with hashimoto's.
Avatar m tn d put the worry of the statin on the shelf, and save the worry for the cholesterol numbers. Your LDL is pretty high and your HDL is so-so, doctors like to see a 3-1 ratio of bad-good cholesterol readings. Both Ed and I have zippers in our chests from open heart surgery to prove high cholesterol numbers can lead to serious heart problems. I agree with Ed that inflammation of the arteries is a big issue.
Avatar m tn This was in the hope that maybe I could reduce or get off Wellbutrin (memory problems) if the Pristiq did not cause sexual side effects. I have been on Pristiq for a month and a half now. The transition was seamless. Within two weeks, I was no longer clenching my jaw and stopped using the mouth guard. I am also seeing a lessening of the sexual side effects. I did not have any of the sweating or dry mouth, but that may be because I have been on an SNRI for awhile and my body was used to it.
Avatar n tn Being overweight does not mean that that is a cause of high cholesterol. I am very overweight at the moment and my bad cholesterol levels have never been high. I do eat a lot of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables. I do not eat a lot of red meat (but do love beef which we have as a special treat - mainly because beef is more expensive that other meat products). Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I just my physical done two weeks ago and my doctor called me back telling me that my cholesterol is very high and that she needed to increased my synthroid (thyroid replacement medicine) from 150 mcg to 175 mcg. The reason for the increase she says was because my thyroid is "sluggish"? So I asked her if my thyroid being sluggish has anything to do with my high cholesterol and her answer was no. Could this be related? Isn't part of the thyroid function to control your metabolism?
Avatar f tn QUIT smoking or vaping. This causes a myriad of issues and is linked to high ldl cholesterol. For triglycerides, alcohol is a big culprit. Also true . . . drinking alcohol raises blood pressure. Eat whole grains and avoid sugar. Niacin (*** check with doctor first before taking!!) and B vitamins (okay to take on your own) are also said to help. https://www.webmd.
1810531 tn?1344529717 I know high cholesterol can run in families and my dad did have coronary heart disease but I just dont understand the massive hike in my levels within a year as my diet is basically the same. has anyone got any suggestions. Thank you Wendy.
Avatar n tn My cholesterol was 328 up from 230 in one year. My triglycerides are 97 and HDL 54. My VLDL Calculation 19 and LDL 255. My doctor was concerned and put me on 10mg of Crestor. That was a month ago and I am due for another blood work up in a few weeks. Reccently (twice) my hearing got fuzzy and I got a little dizzy. It cleared up after a few hours. Should I be concerned. I feel like a walking heart or stroke candidate.
