I was taking Savella 50mgs twice daily and blood pressure went to 180/100.Stopped it and went on Pristiq 50mgs once daily.Went to Dr. and blood pressure was 179/93.Are these meds casuing this?I have always had normal blood pressure.I am obese and have family history of high blood pressure.I have taken cymbalta and quite a few years ago took effexor xr and didn't have any probelms with blood pressure.
When I looked up side effects of Pristiq, I saw high blood pressure was a possible problem. I do agree that our Doctors don't know enough about this drug. Most of my doctors never even heard of it....even asked me how to spell it for my charts. I had to tell them it is the "new effexor", or the patent extender!
Naseau, Brain Zaps,, High Blood Pressure, Sand Shakes? and blurred vision are common in the 248 posts I read on Web Md. Not to mention the awful withdrawl symptoms associated with this drug.
There has to be better options out there so I am wondering why anyone would take this medication?

1) Would anyone who has ever taken this medication please tell me about their own experience on Pristiq? What do you feel like? Can you describe how you feel?
a half before the blood tests. The day before the blood tests I was put on Cipro. I also take Pristiq for mild depression & genralized anxiety disorder. Could these medications have caused the jump in my liver enzymes? I drink a glass of wine just a couple nights a week with dinner...I'm not a big drinker & didn't drink any alcohol for several nights before the test. I'm 40 year old female & have no other symptoms. I work out almost everyday...
Well, Effexor is almost identical to Pristiq -- same manufacturer, a little different structure.
Although the clinical consequence of the grapefruit juice interaction with most of the listed drugs has not been evaluated, increased plasma concentrations of many of these drugs could result in adverse outcomes. Examples include excessive lowering of blood pressure with the calcium channel blockers, rhabdomyolysis and the potential for renal impairment with the HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, and adverse pulmonary effects of amiodarone.
My mom has a long history of high blood pressure and she's used Cymbalta and Lexapro... both meds gave her bad side effects. She now uses Pristiq, which she
finds to be far more agreeable.
okay its been 5 days since my husband left the house 5 days since he had a drink' 6 days since i went to the emeregency room for very high blood pressure and i felt i was haveing heart problems im still not okay it has been 7 days off the pristiq and i still take the lorazapam for anaxiety my husband begged me to stay so he could prove he could fix this yet i dont believe him!
s no allowed maximums, just recommendations based on the limited studies the manufacturers do to get FDA approval and a patent. I know Effexor has a high side effect profile and is difficult to get off of, Pristiq is said to be easier, but I don't know since I haven't taken them and even if I had, that wouldn't say anything about what your experience is likely to be. That can't be predicted.

But I think this drug is more like an ssri than an snri, which is what effexor and pristiq are. Keep in mind effexor and pristiq are almost identical drugs, with pristiq just eliminating some of the molecules in order hopefully to reduce side effects but mostly to get new patent protection. It's like Celexa and Lexapro. This class of drugs is stimulating as it targets norepinephrine as well as serotonin, and is usually not used for primary anxiety as a result.
i have major depressive disorder, dysthimic disorder, and panic disorder. i am on 10 mg lisinopril daily (blood pressure), klonopin 1 mg 3 x daily, pristiq 50 mg daily, lyrica 200 mg daily, protonix 40 mg daily, and 7.5/325 mg of norco 3 x daily. I've never had performance issues until a few days ago with a new relationship that i dont want to **** up because she is a very positive and awesome person. im freaking out about being 26 yrs old and having performance issues.
I am 35 years old and never thought I had HIgh Blood pressure until recently. As I am into my higher studies, when visiting the doctor for a fall, they told me I had high pressure readings of 160/110. My pulse was also high, ( I was diagnosed with tachycardia some years ago which was again put down to stress.) They put it down to anxiety and stress, and gave me atenenol 25 mg. Since then I have developed a fear, and my pulse raises whenever the doctor checks my pressure, and my pressure is high.
2wks tomorrow since surgery and still have tingle in feet and hands,and blood pressure still not going down,was 146/97 today. I just dont understand to be like 97/72 up till i fall asleep for surgery and to wake up this high,and stay that way. Dr says he dont know what to do next,what it could be. 4 years ago after the birth of my child I was on 4 different medications. Today none, and my blood pressure is 100/60. All the ideas mammo gave you on exercise, low salt diet and more is what helped me get off medications and get my BP back on track. It isnt good to walk around with uncontrolled blood pressure so for sure get in as soon as you can and get things sorted around with your doctor.
I have had high blood pressure my whole pregnancy, often as high as 170s/100. I was put on meds and told modified bed rest last week at 35w5d. Ihave not had to do urone collection as when it spikes they make me come back the following 2days for checks and urine samples. If it os still high this week at my 36w5d appt while on the meds i think they will probably put me on full bed rest until i deliver.
I am a 58 year old female and my question is about high blood pressure and sex. While I understand blood pressure rises during sex I wonder if it is normal to get a sudden onset pounding migraine. This is new the last two times at climax. I was curious and checked my blood pressure the last time and it was 160/88. The headache is sudden and severe and remains for hours after. Is this something I should be concerned about?
