pristiq and headaches

I stopped taking my pristiq to switch to effexor xr....Ive developed headaches and am severly tired...Ive been off the pristiq for three weeks....should i have tapered off the pristiq first even though they are suppose to be the same??? help please i dont know what to do and i cant take it anymore...

I am also taking Pristiq. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? Anyone else taking Pristiq and Topamax? Had the same issues? Would love to know.

So I cold turkey stopped taking it again and I am now on my 3rd day of no Pristiq. This is the WORST feeling I have ever experienced in my life!!! I am having headaches that are continuous all day long, dizziness so bad that it keeps me from getting out of my bed, everytime I turn my head left or right it feels like I am hitting my head against the wall. I can even hear myself "blinking my eyes". Nausea is starting to set in now making me afraid to eat anything.

I just recently got on Pristiq 50mg and have had a migraine everyday since. (10days). I initially started with 25mg and did not get any migraines. For about 10 years, I was on Zoloft and had about 8-12 migraine days a month. I got off it last year and my migraines went down to 1-3 a month. I had no idea the Zoloft was the cause until I discontinued it. Unfortunately my panic started coming back and I really need the antidepressant.

I am a 52 year old female. Post menopause and on hormones. Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?

Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.

I was taking savella 50 mgs twice daily and blood pressure shot up to 180/100 so got off and went on Pristiq 50 mgs and blood pressure shot up to 179/93.Dr put me on blood pressure medicine.I am not convinced that I have high blood preesure.Has anyone had this probelm?

I will only add one thing to Ryan's otherwise very good post. People do have different reactions to different drugs, even to Celexa and Lexapro or Pristiq and Effexor. While it's true the companies are trying to keep a patented product in their lineup, Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects than Celexa, but many people do find one or the other works better. Same probably with Pristiq and Effexor. But to prescribe both at once is insane.

i have been on Pristiq for 8 months now and i also take Wellbutrin. 50mg of the Pristiq and 400mg of the Wellbutrin. Only been on the Wellbutrin for a few months. For the most part i thought i was doing alright. But now i havent gotten hardly any sleep in a week. I missed a couple doses and i wonder if this is why. I also have a constant headache. I take mine at night and then just 200mg Wellbutrin in the morning. i wonder should i try and take it at another time? As for the sex drive...

I called the pdoc back and he's having me take a 75 effexor xr and my pristiq 50---I guess a ween off of it, no more brain zaps for now, I dont know what will happen after I stop taking effexor all together, we shall see in a few weeks. As for the comment above, I too have seen people have to pay out of pocket for perscriptions and its usually elderly and people like me, who had been laid off and take medications and are put into a situation of having to pay out of pocket, what to do?

I really dont feel depressed at all,I feel ok when i had my clonazepan dosage,but what if I become an addict, how can I start taking pristiq and not being scared? Like I said above , i feel more anxious and panic than depressed. So Pristiq will work with my anxiety? What about Clonazepan withdrawals?

Although, my neuro did say that Pristiq would probably help with the fibro symptoms as well and with my headaches. I do have less headaches and feel better mood and concentration wise, but I'm not sure how long I will be able to tolerate not sleeping. I almost hate to stop the pristiq, though, because I really do feel it is helping me....but, maybe there is something better for me.

I take lithium Wellbutrin pristiq and clomping. I am going through menopause. I take about 6 six 7.5 hydros a day. I have taken the meds for 20 years, but the hydros about 2 years. Lately I have become morbidly depressed, and I need to know if you guys think its the hydros. Sometimes I do take more, but never more than 10 hydros.

Then came the really bad parts. He upped my dose of xanax and gave me pristiq! NOT GOOD. I was almost falling over, having crazy thoughts ( what if I stabbed my hand with my fork) that I never thought before. I told my Dr about me not feeling right he then gave me pristiq to try. By this time I felt like a lab rat. I read up on the medication and saw that these can actually make anxiety worse. I have been off the pristiq for 3 months, my Dr had me take xanax 3 times a day to this day.

I am taking Pristiq and not sure if it helps or not. I was taking Eflexor 225 mg daily and this pristiq is only 50 mg. The withdrawal from Eflexor was terrible. Had nightmares and felt like I was fading away while trying to fall asleep. What does low magnesium have to do with depression? Never heard of that before. Can you get this over the counter?

When I take Savella and Pristiq together, it works wonders. When both my pain dr and my psychiatrist got together and said I couldn't take them together, I became very depressed after getting off of Savella. I didn't want to kill myself, but I sure didn't want to live. Lyrica put me to sleep in horrible ways, Cymbalta doesn't work for me and anything like Prozac or Lexapro or Zoloft is candy to me. I also take Norco.

I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?

It made me a HOT MESS, later I found myself a zombie and emotional wreck, questioning myself, having flashbacks of the past experiences i had. I was crying all the time and headaches that were debilitating. I told my Dr all of this. I told him i looked over the last 2 years and i have never been physically sick in my whole life. I told him I want off all the meds. He told me summer!!! Thats why I am doing this on my own with the support of my fiance.

It does it at random times for no reason, or when I drink alcohol, take OTC medicines, and with my anxiety medicine, Pristiq. It blurs my vision and makes it hard to see out of when it dilates and sometimes causes my headaches. I have an astigmatism in my left eye, as well. I went to an eye doctor and had a thorough check up. He sent me to get a cat scan done and they didn't come up with anything. I'm at a loss here, I want it to stop.

If you are still considering taking Pristiq, make yourself very aware of the possible side effects, and if you start to feel any side effects at all, talk to your doctor. I had a HORRIBLE experience with Pristique. I took it for about 3 1/2 weeks. At first, I didn't notice any side effects at all, and then after several days, I began to feel really sad and depressed. Then a little later, I became really irritible. Then all the side effects hit me all at once in full force.

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community. I'm sorry it took so long for me to respond!! Being that you have a history with migraines as well as anxiety you really need to see your PCP cause there are some preventative meds you need to be on as well as needing abortive meds to stop it all in its track. Ask about Buspar, Elavil, Imitrex, Inderal, Pristiq, Topamax....just to name a few.

Pristiq and Effexor are essentially the same medication, so the switch should be relatively easy, and save you some money, too. I'm not sure I understand the switch, because Pristiq is the new Effexor, so if it isn't for financial reasons, kind of hard to see the point of going through it. Certainly some people have different reactions to them, and so just because Pristiq works also doesn't guarantee Effexor will work, and it might work better, who knows.

I'm a bit surprised your doc didn't give the pristiq a bit more time to work, but he no doubt had reason for doing so. Remember, you are 'coming down' from a period of 'high anxiety' so you naturally will feel the way you do. Also the medication is getting into your system and more often then not symptoms like you are now having will taper off and go away shortly. if they get too severe then call the doc right away.

I don’t know what the cause is, I don’t believe im diabetic as last year I was tested and I was clear. I’m on an anti-depressant called pristiq which I have been on for almost 2 years. I’m only on 50mg so my doctor said to increase my dose but that hasn’t helped the symptoms go away, does anyone know what it could be? im worried that its serious and I have a brain tumor or that im dying.

I want to take it all and see what happens. Pristiq or even effexor wont kill you providing you get to hospital and take activated charcoal, but dexamphetamine rush, I may wake up dead. I am sick of my depression ****, so I have no fear. That makes me borderline in mental health here. I will be in and out like a rocket because I dont meet their criteria, even thougfh I will do 220kmh in a car not caring what tree I could bounce off. You would not believe where I take my 4x4.

My mom's taking Pristiq and she feels that it has fewer negative side effects and does a better job controlling the depression than Cymbalta and Lexapro.

m now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.

m taking 50mg pristiq and 75 mg effexor daily for 7 days, and then 50mg pristiq and 37.5mg effexor for the next 7 days. My therapist has suggested this dosing to make the transition gradual. I was just curious as to anyone elses experience with such a change, good or bad.

I had a horrible experience with Pristiq. I would suggest that if you do decide to take it that you become aware of all the possible side effects and if you begin to have any side effects, contact your doctor right away. I took Pristiq for about 3 1/2 weeks. My doctor did not warn me of possible side effects and I didn't read about possible side effects early on. At first, I didn't notice anything unusual. I actually thought the drug might be helping a little.

n pristiq before bed...I suddenly stopped taking pristiq cuz I ran out n my phyciatrist doc office was closed..its beeen 2days now that I haven't taken pristiq..my head hurts bad it feels soar n my neck n ears hurt n eyes a bit..I also have a soar throat..could this b cuz im just stressing n stressing or because I stopped my medication pristiq?? I would like help plzz..im scared..
