Avatar n tn There can be side-effects with the use of PPIs - no drug is without side-effects unfortunately. They can include changes to bone density - more ease of fracture - and anemic states due to loss of B12 uptake. Changes in bowel habits and loose stools can be a result of the use of PPIs. If you cut down on acid, you cut down on the amount of food that's thoroughly digested and able to be absorbed. Those materials will cause changes in the output of the digestive system in a number of ways.
Avatar m tn Prilosec, Nexium Side Effects: Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
268911 tn?1213744781 If so can you tell me if you are having side effects from them? I currently take one 20mg Prilosec tablet and they seem to make me dizzy and light headed. I also notice pain in my lower abdomin.
268911 tn?1213744781 I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me if abdominal pain, constipation and gas are side effects of PPI's. My neighbor is a doctor and prescribed me prevacid, I took them for 2 weeks, and began to notice these problems. I told him this and his response was "Prevacid does not have those side efffects." but when I search "Prevacid side effects" these symptoms show up on every page. ANy direction woudl be appreciated.
568812 tn?1379165794 Hi i am on 40mg of Omeprazole for acid reflux. Has anyone here had side effects from it like loose stools? For the past two weeks or so my bowel movements have been rather odd...loose in the morning but ok towards the end of the day...no blood, but causing soreness around my anus afterwards....
Avatar f tn There are a lot of side-effects when PPIs are taken. Constipation and diarrhea can be two of them.
Avatar n tn If I were you I would have yourself tested for H-Pylori
Avatar n tn Susan, all meds have side-effects and PPIs are no different. Many people report heartbeat rate changes when using PPIs. And the changes in the stools could be due to lack of full digestion of foods due to lowered acid output. Changes in bowel habits are another often reported side-effect of these meds.

221122 tn?1323011265 I was so glad to find someone else who thinks there may be a link between PPI's (protein pump inhibitors) and heart arrhythmia's. I had been on Prilosec/omeprazole for over 10 years. A year ago I started having atrial fibrillation. My doctor ran all the relevant tests and said my heart was fine and not to worry. At that time I questioned my gastroenterologist about being on Prilosec for such a long time.
581954 tn?1223391496 m not really sure of the side effects of Omeprazole (Prilosec). But I do know you might be able to find some info on it in the Health Pages Tab. Were you tested for Thyroid problems? And I'm not talking about them just pulling a TSH value on you. You would need FreeT3 and FreeT4 values for it to be sufficient info to see if you have a Thyroid issue. The fatigue, light headedness, nausea, and heart burn/ GERD are all symptoms of Thyroid issues.
1364792 tn?1278051187 I started taking omeprazole for acid reflux but stopped it after reading about the side effects, anemia as it takes out vitamin b12,broken bones as it takes out calcium and a risk of severe cold infections as it takes out vitamin c.A local doctor links acid reflux with anemia,so I started taking multi vits with iron and the acid reflux disappeared.

Avatar f tn Has anyone else had these side effects from Lex? Anyone been on Lex for awile with no side effects, only to have them develop later? Don't side effects happen in the beginning only?
709686 tn?1277432159 I understand that we all can experience different side effects to certain meds but was hoping someone could tell me what, if any, side effects they experienced while taking Prilosec or Zegerid. Both meds are basically Omeprazole. I also noticed that, in my opinion, my doctor had me on WAY TOO MUCH. I was prescribed 40mg twice a day..EVERY DAY! I've seen that the most common script is written for 20mg a day for two weeks.
Avatar f tn They had me on Pepcid and Prilosec before but my side effects were too bad
Avatar n tn t take Prilosec, Zantac, Prevacid, etc., is because they all list cardiac side-effects like heart rhythm abnormalties, arrhythmia's, tachycardia, and chest pain in their possible drug side-effect profiles. One's like the Aciphex I was prescribed years ago, also list possible MI, bundle branch block, long QT, etc. If I didn't already have PVC's, runs of NSVT, and mild MVP, I might be more willing to give one of them a try again, I just can't get over the fear factor.
Avatar n tn Perhaps the Meds are giving you the Nausea, Prilosec can have side effects try something else and see,
Avatar n tn It has no reported interactions with weight loss 4 pills but it is not advisable to ue weight loss 4 pills without a doctor’s guidance. It has plenty of side effects like diarrhea, oily stools, gas, flatulence, and other systemic side effects. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
1387175 tn?1326400997 Saw an endo doc and she told me to not take the Nexium or Omeprazole (Prilosec) due to the possible side effects. Called my doc the other day because I have had stomach pain and feeling of nausea. He tells me to take the Omeprazole!!! Next day, no better so asked the pharmacist if I could take it 3 times a day instead of twice. He told me I was already on twice the dose and should only be taking it once a day (20 mg).
Avatar n tn I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?
Avatar n tn Hopefully there will be other ways, besides taking Nexium, that your acid reflux symptoms can be addressed. FWIW, I was on Prilosec for years, finally had to stop because of the side effects, and now am off of it with no problems. There is a lot of good information on the internet about getting off of proton pump inhibitors and using natural methods to control the symptoms of GERD.
