679466 tn?1247006054 I just pulled this article from the world wide web. http://health.msn.com/health-topics/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100205363&page=2 Here's an interesting excerpt: Prilosec and Nexium Heartburn can be uncomfortable, but heart attacks can be fatal, which is why the FDA has investigated a suspected link between cardiac trouble and the acid-reflux remedies Prilosec and Nexium. In December 2007, the agency concluded that there was no "likely" connection.
Avatar m tn I am a woman in her late 30's. I have been taking omeprazole for 2 years now. I was instructed to take it by a ENT doctor for healing of my esophagus due to acid erosion(scarring) caused by silent reflux. (Diagnosed via endoscopy) I have noticed a decrease in hunger, lack of "growling" of the stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? Is long term use of omeprazole really safe?
Avatar m tn I have read warnings about kidney disease being associated with the long term use of PPIs. I have to take Prilosec for another 3 weeks. Any insights or guidance will be appreciated.
Avatar m tn I know there was a study that showed bone loss in men with long term use of prilosec and drugs in that family but I cannot find the study results. This study, coupled with the issues with my connective tissue and I feel like this stuff is bad news and that surgery is the way to go to solve this. I take this medication daily and can't go any loger than two days without before I get gut wrenching burning through my enire esophageal area.
Avatar n tn Long-term use of Proton Pump Inhibitors can cause or exacerbate Osteoporosis, chest pain, distended stomach, nausea, diarrhea/constipation, abdominal pain, flatulence, headache & trouble swallowing. They can also interfere with the absorption of other drugs. As you can see, most of the side effects appear to be gastrointestinal, which means we have to be aware of whether our symptoms are coming from the Reflux/Barrett's, etc.

Avatar n tn 35 yrs old. I've had acid reflux for about 10 years - started taking aciphex, then switched to prilosec, and now have been taking Nexium for 5 years or so. By taking one of those magical pills each morning, i'm able to eat anything and feel great. But if i forget to take a pill, i'll feel it (usually about 35 hours without taking a pill). I recently met with my primary care doctor, and he said it was dangerous to be taking Nexium long-term, every day. Is this true?
Avatar n tn My mother was on long term acid blocker nexium (similar to prilosec (omeprazole) but more powerful) and these were some of the dozens of symptoms that she no longer suffers with since stopping nexium... severe major clinical depression, severe anxiety, severe constant fungal infections, homocysteine in imminent heart attack range, severe angina pain, severe stomach pain (nexium worsened her gastritis), sky high blood pressure - given less than 5 years to live by an international specialist.
Avatar f tn I am also going to wean myself off of the Prilosec which is not easy to do. But I had no guidance in terms of the long term effects. Would love and value an opinion about this situation and I also need to know how much B12, in this form, I should be taking. Labs indicated B 12 was very low- 289 (193-986)ref range.
Avatar m tn My hope is someone out there may have some ideas that will make his later years more comfortable and ease his symptoms without drugging him anymore! I know the prednisone is not good long term yes or no? There is so many contradicting articles and advice on the internet I feel confused and really have no idea how to help him other than the meds the vet has him on and has been on for a year. Any help would be much appreciated and that includes diet, meds, holistic help….anything that may help!
Avatar n tn But I have read somewhere that ovarian cysts can be connected to PPIs. I also have gastro polyps as a result of long term use of PPIs. To avoid the polyps you might want to consider getting off PPIs once you have the acid reflux under control - and then seriously change your diet to make sure you don't get reflux again (less animal fats, sugars, acid food etc.).
Avatar f tn They certainly hear all the negative media coverage damning the prescription and use of long term opiates. If we influence or change one person's negative attitude towards chronic pain and its management than we are fighting the war against us! Yes the War against Us, Against Chronic Pain Patients. You should not be shamed or harassed into this position, "stop the mess and live in constant pain." Taking your husband to your next appt along with educating him may be beneficial.
Avatar m tn The only reason that I ask is that I've heard on of the long-term side effects on dxm use is being a bit lathargic. I'm that way now and the VA did an MRI of my brain and found that my adrenal glad had begun to shrink so, it wasn't producing enough of the thyroid hormone.....I can already tell I'm got some defects from the long term use in my cognitive abilities. I'm down to 18 pills day. 1 pill every two days. The morning w/draws have pretty much stopped.
Avatar n tn Is there any info about long term plavix use. I have been taking Plavix along with Lisinopril and Toprol for the past two years after quad bypass but I don't feel very good about it anymore. Any info as in is this medicine weakening my internal organs.
Avatar f tn I have recently been feeling full of regret, very emotional and tearful, I have been informed this amy be due to the long term use of Naltrexone, and lack of natural endorphins , so i have been advised by my CDT Nurse to start thinking about coming off of them, is this right? Other wise, my life is so good compared to what it was, I am happy, but just feel like the past keeps wanting me to remember how bad things were... could my 'miracle' now be becoming my tormenter?
Avatar m tn Dear whoever may know, I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder 2 1/2 years ago, and I have been taking Lexapro at 10 mg per day ever since. The medicine has really seemed to have helped my life in all aspects. Whether it has really helped or if this is some kind of placebo effect, I am unsure. I still have moments of reasonable stress at work, but who doesn't...most importantly, I don't have panic attacks anymore.
