Hubby would like to know what the difference ( aside from price ) is between advair and symbicort. Advair is $176/month...but he could get symbicort for less than $50/month. Because of the price difference he would like to ask his doctor about changing it. Think his lung specialist would go for that if he asked? Are there any other inhalers that are similar to advair?

Interesting and thanks for the info. I wonder what the difference is in "wholesale" vs retail pricing. I was under the impression that the insurance co's did their own negotiating on prices from the drug manufacturers(bottom line-what will the drug co's except for payment for their product). Hard to compare on an apple to apple basis.

I'd say it's the increased triggers. Advair can definitely be pricey. Might look into other long-acting beta agonists. Serevent is the LABA that is in Advair (Formoterol is available as Foradil. Salmeterol is the LABA in Advair). It's basically Flovent and Serevent in one Discus or inhaler. Symbicort is another combination steroid/LABA (Pulmicort + Formoterol). I don't know if any combination of those options would be better from a price perspective.

I promise you if you look up into the skies and see the geoengineering that is going on and do your research you will find that there are many toxic things raining down upon us that are affecting our ability to breathe. Please be proactive in taking care of your own health.

I take advair, am trying the new drug dailiresp, 1mg. of klonipen and wellbutrin {even tho i have not smoked in two years}. I have applied for disability and according to the pulmonologist my fev1 is 0.97 and my diffusing capacity 9.1. Those are 35% and 38% of predicted respectively. Am I just prone to catching colds or do you think I'm getting worse? IAre these numbers considered to be the III or severe stage of copd?

Three weeks after stopping the Advair my sense of smell returned rather suddenly, over a couple of days. It came back in sporadically, like suddenly I smelled the chicken I had cooked, then could not smell anything again that day. The next day I was able to smell for several brief periods, and now, a week later, I'd say my sense of smell is pretty much back to normal. So, if this is happening to you, I hope that you have the same result I did and are able to taste and smell again soon!

Afterthought. In place of Advair I use natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. Works well and no side effects.

You can buy Flovent inhalers in generic form which is part of the advair which is all you need. much cheaper..

Having been on Advair for one year, I now have "frogs" in throat which causes me - a singer - to lose my voice when singing low notes. The Advair was discontinued and I am now on Symbicort which, I am afraid, is causing the same problem. Is there a simple "home remedy" for this problem? Thank you.

They are very very scary. Could this be a side effect of Advair. Also, my son is not consistant in taking the medication. Are there side-effects from this med when you don't take it everyday.....twice a day?

Spiriva is extremely drying and it will make for thick mucus that is hard to cough up. Advair is also drying and I note that your extremely high dose of that inhaled steroid is not generally recommended. I got rid of Spiriva because it was drying. It didn't help anyway. I got rid of Advair because I developed adrenal fatigue, osteoporosis, and it gave me a hacking cough which exhausted me and could not have been good for my lungs.

I little known fact about Advair is that only ~16% makes it to the lungs where you want it. The rest of it sits in your mouth and throat, therefore, it is very important to rinse and gargle after each use. The drug which is good in the lungs, is bad in the mouth and throat. It can cause fungal infections, hoarseness, and temporary loss of voice. You may need to have a throat culture done to make sure you do not have a fungal infection.

Is Seraflo basically a generic form of Advair? I am not covered by insurance and am looking for less expensive and generic drugs that will still work.

I would just look around find the one, or two you like and check the net every few days, then if it does go on sale you can catch the good deal. Being in Canada I guess a "hot" car seat won't be a issue!

The 'list price' is really just what the insurance company can expect to be charged, not the individual patient. As it says at the end, people who can not afford it can avail of patients' assistance programmes, and if this proves prohibitive still, there may be programmes or grants through charities of societies to make up the difference.

I had to discover it myself which I resent bitterly. There are deaths reported with the use of Advair, the prime culprit may be salmeterol. (I suspect the asthma developed because of environmental pollutants that were in our house at the time. I was just curious, when u were diagnosed with Phneumonia, were you put on any kind of inhaler like ADVAIR ?? The reason im wondering is because alot of times certain inhalers will mess with your tongue such as making it numb and swollen, making it wierd colors, or sometimes even ooze out puss and phlem, A few of the inhalers that will do this unless you rinse your mouth out after every actuation are, Combivent, Flovent, ADVAIR or even some nose sprays that hit the back of your tongue.

other than sinus rinse, can you all recommend some other type of medications that i can use instead of advair that gets rid of inflamation? im gonna call the pulmanologist in a couple days. i know hes gonna recommend that i stay on advair but i want to get an idea about whats been working with other people so i can mention it to him.
