Stomach ulcers are caused by the bacteria h.pylori. There is a combination of antibiotics that has a good chance of curing the infection. They are usually sold as "PrevPac" and you take them for 10-14 days, depending on what your doctor says.
However, stomach pain is not always caused by an ulcer. Antibiotics will not help with other causes, and could possibly even make your stomach pain worse. Be sure to talk to your doctor.
I was hoping you guys could help me.I was having some minor stomach issues. swallowing was a little hard, so I went to the DR. We did a endoscope. He found: H. Pylori associated moderate chronic gastritis with some signs of intestinal metaplasia. Right now I'm taking the Prevpac (triple therapy) for the bacterium. Will this type of gastritis eventually resolve itself when the bacterium is removed?
The doctor prescribed Prevpac. This medicine is very strong and always have bad taste in my mouth. Now I have been taking this medicine for five days. I still feel pain in the stomach especially in the early morning time close to 5 am. My question is if I am having pain due to the bacteria then by taking this medicne when should I start feeling comfortable. Could it be I have some other condition?
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Florastor is the best probiotic for preventing C Diff (in my opinion) I think it is a good idea to take it during your course of medications. I was told by my doctors to take 2 pills (each pill is 250 mg) twice a day for the entire antibiotic course, and then continue it for 2 weeks after finishing the antibiotics.
My husband started on 14 days of prevpac 4 days ago and is now experiencing extreme lack of energy and tiredness--very hard for him to get up in the a.m. and he is exhausted by 2 or 3 p.m. Could this be a side effect of the drugs?

I had gasteritus but I finished my pills (prevpac). I have tightness in my left shoulder and it has a little lumb on the bottom of the shoulder. I have discomfort in my whole body and cant find relief.
I have had a lot of stomach pain. I have both Lyme and Bartonella (Babesia, too), and the article by Virginia Sherr, a Lyme aware GI doc, explained my abdominal symptoms very well. She calls it "Bell's Palsy of the gut." When Lyme causes partial paralysis of the digestive system, all kinds of problems appear. The stomach can't control the amount of acid it produces, so you can alternate between too much (burning) and too little (poor digestion, cramping).
I was recently dx with H pylori. Along with the H pylori I have this weird body odor which smells slightly of ammonia and somewhat meaty? I have this weird taste in my mouth as well. I was taking a prevpac for 14 days and I thought that would take care of the weird body odor as well as kill off the pylori bugs. My stomach feels better but I still smell weird? I also have bright red blood in my stool with each stool. At this point I have no idea what's going on.
on 9th Day of Prevpac, I have noticed my pee sometimes get considerably yellow and foamy. After I pee there is a slight burn at the end of the urethra.. I am not sure if this is a UTI or just symptoms effects of other things.

I went to internist / gastroenterologist a few weeks ago with my problem. Initially, based on what I've read, I suspected that I had candida overgrowth, but my doctor told me that candida overgrowth in the intestine is a myth.
We did the following tests:
- Breath test for some bacterias (was normal)
- Blood test (not sure for what but came back normal. Do you know what this could be tested for?)
- Breath test for h.
About a month ago I was prescribed a course of Clarithromycin for a skin infection. Since taking the drug I've suffered huge surges of adrenaline, which kicks in like a lighting shot at the point of sleep. It kept me away many nights and I was beside myself with worry. It's now more than three weeks since I stopped the medication (I only completed 2.5 days out of 7) and I find that the adrenaline surges have subsided somewhat.
My wife has what appears to be a digestive problem. She has suffered with it now for four months. We are on our second gastrointerologist without relief. Her symptoms are as follows:
1. Burning sensation and pain in the sternum area. The burning and pain comes and goes but is occurring frequently.
2. Burning sensation rising from the sternum area up the esophagus to her neck. However there is not regurgitation of stomach acid.
3. Constant metallic/bitter taste in her mouth.

The pain he describes is soreness,tenderness,burning and stabing like sharp pain in his abdomen and back and sometimes in his side. He had bloodtests,ultrasound,ct scan and finally endoscopy with biopsy. The ultrasound and ct scan just found fatty liver but the endoscopy did show Acute and Chronic gastritis due to H Pylori bacteria. He has been in sever pain and unable to work some days due to the pain. Also the pain seems to get worse towards the end of the day. He is miserable and frustrated.
thhe doctor may be refering to the pyloric bacteria that causes ulcers, it is important that she takes her medication if she is proven positive of this bacteria, it does cause ulcers and she must avoid taking any aspirin, however severe vomitting of blood, especially with abdominal pain and or destention, could be a medical emergency and should not be ignored.
I was dx. with H.Pylori and took just Flagyl alone because my pharmacist did not fill the Prevpac. After reading everyones comments, I am relief that I did not take the Prevpac. As for the Flagyl, my side effects are loss of appetite, weight loss, this huge loud gurgling noise in my stomach is my coworkers can hear, and being tired. Now the GI doctor wants me to take the Prevpac along with the Flagyl. I'm thinking NOT.
I know of no reports that link the development of asthma with any of the drugs in the preparation, Prevpac. In fact Clarithromycin has proven to be beneficial in the treatment of certain types of asthma.
My first thought is to question the diagnosis of asthma, with onset at age 62.
One day, the patient admitted with alcohol withdrawal syndrome. He does not drink alcohol since 3 days ago. He suffer restless then I injected diazepam 10 mg iv ! In a few min, he got like gasping and then dead by respiratory arrest ! I did CPR but can't revive ! So can I give Diazepam to the patient who is suffering from alcohol withdrawal ? Advise me pls !
